I believe that our Nicholas Heck are 2 different people. My Nicholas is the father of Raymond Leslie Heck. He was born in Ohio and his wife was Freda Tackenburg. It was Nicholas' Father Huber that came over from Germany with several children.
Sorry if this is not the information you are looking for I know how disappointing this can be when you think you have found some information on a surname you are searching. If O can be of any further help please let me know.
Nancy

I hope the information was helpful--I started from scratch myself as I didn't know my father or his side of the family, let alone any of the family history. I DID find that several people spelled things the way they saw fit back in those days. I searched for my great-great-grandfather-Jordon J. Heck-for months before I found the marriage record, and the name Heck was spelled Hock. Go figure! I was desperate, and intense in my search, but had to laugh at myself for having missed what was so obvious. I have uncovered alot of information though. If you need anything just let me know.
Hi, I'm working on this family tree. These are my ancesters. The year is 1919 of the marriage. I contacted my Aunt on this. Amanda Heck and Olga Heck (sisters) got married on the same day. Amanda married Johann Dast, and Olga married Albert Cronk on October 2, 1919. So there was a double wedding. Albert Cronk and Olga Heck are my grandma and grandpa. Please contact me at boadway2110@gmail.com. My name is Lisa.

No, I have no idea what Sarah's birth name was. To the best of my knowledge, all four children of Jacob and Sarah were born in Franklin County, PA. My ancestor Catherine was born about 1794, Henry was born 23 Oct 1796, and Susannah was born 2 Mar 1798. Jacob, son of Jacob and Sarah, was a minor in 1807 when Jacob the father died. Given the name, I'm guessing that he was the eldest of the four. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Sarah's father was named Henry, but that doesn't help much with the surname! ;>)

I believe that the Henry Heck you are talking about is the son of Jacob and Sarah Heck. That makes Henry the grandson of the Jacob whose land was inherited by his 7 children (or their heirs). I don't know Sarah's last name. I found Henry's birth and death dates in a book titled Perry County Ohio, Death Records, Early Years Volume 1. He was born 23 Oct 1796 in Chambersburg, Franklin County, PA and died 1 Sept 1869, Somerset, Perry County, OH. The cause of death was gout. Henry's sister Catherine who married Michael Wilson is my 4th-great-grandmother.

I agree, the will is a doozy. Sorry I didn't post it in my original message, but it wasn't handy at the time. Will keep you in mind if I run into a George or a Peter.

Jacob's last name is sometimes spelled as Hicks or Hick, so I think he is in the record during the 1750-1784 period you mention. One of my sources says that he is show as a taxable (as Heck) in 1762, and that a Jacob Hicks is listed as a taxable in Guilford Township as early as 1753. Jacob Heck bought land in Guilford Township in 1766/1767. I haven't found these tax and land records for myself yet, I must admit.

He shows up in the muster rolls of Cumberland County as Hick, Hicks, etc. I've looked at these records at the online Pennsylvania site, and in 1777 he is "too old" which makes him older than 53 in that year. What is tantalizing about this is that the card says "sister can prove he is over age." I have no idea who that is, and the state says that there is no information beyond what is on the abstract cards available online.

I just took a peek there (www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/) and found George Heck in Philadelphia City and a Peter Heck in each of Chester Co. and York Co, but that doesn't sound like the right counties for you. There is a George Hicks in Bucks Co. as well.

So I'm not in much doubt about Jacob in Pennsylvania, except as to whether or not I have a string of two or three Jacobs, but as I said earlier, I don't have a clue as to his German origins.

Yes, William F. Heck was the seventh of ten children of Franz Ludwig ("L. Frank") & Catherine Heck. He apparently left Perry County; lived in Louisville for a time before moving out to Los Angeles near other relatives. His brother, Casper & family, as well as his widowed sister-in-law Margaret (Bungner) Heck (my great-grandmother) had moved to Los Angeles. William & his wife had a boarding house in Los Angeles in 1910.

Just wanted to join the discussion of
the Heck family of Franklin, Pa..
This is my family, although I don't
know the Father of Henry Heck B
about 1796 in Pa.,Do you know who
his parents were?? He married Margaret
Shaffer around 1820 and this couple
had my GrGrandmother Elizabeth Heck
in October of 1823. Elizabeth married
first Jacob Sanderson 1849, they had
2 sons William B abt 1851 and Henry
B abt 1856, Jacob Sanderson died and
Elizabeth Heck Sanderson married an
older widower Jacob Siniff/Sinift in
1862. They had 2 sons David L. B 1863,
lived one year and my Grandfather James
Milton Sinift, B 1865. He was the only
child the couple had together that survived.
Both of Elizabeths sons by Jacob
Sanderson moved to Western Ohio shortly
after they married William married his Stepsister
Elizabeth abt, 1874 and moved to Paulding Co.,
Ohio and Henry married Sarah Mesnard and
moved to Darke Co., Ohio. James Milton
Sinift married Mary Catherine Musser and
they stayed in the Perry/Fairfield Co.
area. My family lived very close to
the Fairfield/Perry Co.,Ohio line so
my Ancestors seem to come from both
Counties. While looking for information
on Henry Sanderson I did notice several
Hecks lived in Darke Co., Ohio. They
may have been related to Henry Sanderson,
his Mother died right around the time
her sons married in 1875.
Also I noticed your query about a
Buffington, there was a Siniff/Sinift
who married a Rosanna Buffington and
they moved to Paulding Co., Ohio.
I think the Shockeys may have married
into the Sinift family too, in Fairfield
or Perry County, Ohio.
I also noticed on one of your posts
you were looking for a Bruce Foshnot
(I know I did not spell that one right)
I think he is on the Binckley/Binckley
yahoo site. Do you still need
his email address??
and back to the Hecks, if you know
who Henry Hecks father was, do you
know who his Mother was??

Thank You for any help you can give
Sandy

Hey Cousin! I've bee driving myself crazy trying to find Ann. I think she may be the daughter of Jordan J. Heck and Sarah Harrison--who were divorced after having two children one of which was Ann J. born 1844. No other information out there that I can find. I've left messages and posts everywhere I can for any info and see that you've done the same. As far as I can tell it's possible that Ann never married so I have no idea where to start looking for James Melvin's father. It's driving me nuts!

Angela, I have a Jordan J. Heck born 1810 in Pa.. He married Sarah Harrison in 1840 in Greene, TN. They had two daughters, Hannah Elizabeth born 1842 and Ann J. born 1844 also in Tennessee. He married again in 1845 to Louisa Snider and they had several children, one of which was also named Jordan J. Heck, and Albert J. Heck, who also called himself Jordan J.. I may have also found records of his (the first Jordan J.) marraiges to two other women, one of which was either Louis's sister or cousin, with the name Eliza Snider. At first I thought it was a mis-spelling but it appears that there actually was a marraige record. I'm having difficulties in locating his birth records and the names of his parents and grandparents. It's possible that his father's name was Peter Heck, and if it is then I have alot of work to do since I have located several Peter hecks that were born in the time frame that would make him old enough to be the father of Jordan. I've been looking at the names whose birth years are around 1790-95. There's so many of them ! I'll post anything that I find out.

Sarah "Sally" Harrison Heck

My ggggrandmother is Sarah "Sally" Harrison. She married Jordon J. Heck in 1840 in Tennessee. I have no idea what her mother's name is, although the 1850 US census lists Ann J. Harrison age 83 (born in 1764 NC) as living in Sarah's household. I figure she is either Sarah's grand or great grandmother, but can find no information as to what her maiden name may have been or whom she may have married as far as the Harrison's. So "either/or" these women are MY ggggg/gggggg grandmothers and I would love to find out who they are and where they came from.

Somewhere along the way the spelling of the family name got changed--supposedly from "Ten Eyck" to "Heck". I have been unable to locate records showing when, how or why this took place. The connection is made through Andreas (Andrew) Ten Eyck/Eick around the Revolutionary War. If anyone out there has any information they would be willing to share I would be eternally grateful.

My ggggrandfather, Jordan J. Heck, b. 1810 in PA. married Sara Sally Harrison and moved to TN. They had two daughters, Hannah E., and Ann J. Heck. Apparently, although I've yet to find record of it--he and Sally divorced and he married an Eliza and or Louisa Snider/Snyder and had severl children with her, one of whose name is Albert Jordan Heck. I believe that he in turn had a son named Albert. You can check the LDS search site and find it that way, or visit any number of Ancestry Heck family trees, as there are several of them. Good luck.

Sarah's maiden name was Harrison, she was born 1822 in North Carolina. As to who her parents are I'm still trying to figure that out. The 1840 census shows 83 year old Ann J. Harrison as living in household. I figure she is either Sarah's grandmother or greatgrandmother. I have no idea what Ann's maiden name was before she became a Harrison-one of many mysteries in this family...She was born in 1764, I think in North Carolina but it's possible she was born elsewhere. Will keep you updated. You can email me at specialkaye73@yahoo.com

Ann J. is my gggreatgrandmother. The 1840 U.S. Census lists Sarah as head of household, with her daughters and either her grandmother or greatgrandmother living with her whose name was Ann J. Harrison. I have no further information on her at this time.
Jordon J. Heck also married another woman-Louisa J. Snider/Snyder in 1845.

If anyone has ANY information they would be willing to share on this woman I would be forever grateful. She was shown in the 1840 US Federal Census as 83 years old living with Sarah (Harrison) Heck, and Sarah's two daughters, Hannah E. and Ann J. Heck. She would be my ggggg or even possibly my gggggg grandmother. I have found no public information other than this census, and have no idea what her maiden name could have been. I also have no idea of the first name of the Harrison man she married-probably around the late 1780's. Have no idea how many children she may have had, or the names of the woman/women between Ann J. Harrison and Sarah. Does anyone have any of this info?

So where was Jacob for 34 years ( 1750 - 1784)? That is a big time gap to deal with. He didn't appear on the tax records in Cumberland Co. before it became Franklin in 1784.
For what it is worth, I would work with the names of spouses of the female children ( Coleman, Kellar, Smith/ Schmidt) and see if you can put them in an area with Heck/ Hecht/ Hicks.
Have you checked over the state line in Washington Co., MD.? A lot of the Germans who settled in lower Franklin Co. came up from that area.
I also have to comment that I haven't seen so badly written a will in a long time. Wonder who actually wrote it for him, since he signed with his mark.

If you come up with a Peter or George Heck, give me a shout.
Suzy
