It says is that John HHeckendorn's widow Catherine married Johan Jacob Bicher on April 11, 1779. She died in 1830. Her obit states that she had three children one of which was John Jacob Bicher who was born in 1780, but no records can be found of the other two. Hope this helps.

Does anyone have The Heckendorn-Heckathorn Family in America, 1736-1982 by Theodore Allen Heckathorn - 1983?

On Page 46 there is mention of a John Jacob Bicher who married a widow Heckendorn. He is my 4th great grandfather, about whom I know a great deal.

But I'm most curious as to what is said on page 46!

Thanks.

The Heckendorns come from Switzerland. My records begin with Christian Ruchty, his daughters, one being Veronica, and Christian Deppen arriving in America on the Princess Augusta in 1736. There were some "Hegendorns" on this ship's list, including a Daniel Heckendorn, aged 16, who was the father of Christian Gottfried Heckendorn (below). Also on this ship's list were Daniel's father, Hans and brother Hans, Jr. They were from Berne, Switzerland. The Heckendorns were an active part of the Moravian Church when they settled in America.

Veronica Ruchty and Christian Deppen married. Their daughter Veronica Deppen married Christian Gottfried Heckendorn in America. The homestead of some of these family members is still standing in Berks County, PA not far from the Conrad Weiser estate.

I will try to find some time to check other records to see if I can go back even farther in Switzerland. I will let you know if I can locate more information.

From the book "Counting Kindred", I have a listing for Mary Eve Heckendorn, b. 1/24/1788; d. 9/14/1885; aged 97 years, 7 mo., 20 days; m. (1) Mr. Carl, d. aft. 1810; (2) Simon Moses, b. 11/25/1777; d. 2/21/1860. Mary was buried at Duncannon, PA on a hill overlooking the Susquehanna River, as she lived with a son in Duncannon; Simon Moses was buried at Landisburg, PA.

The Moses family is of Swiss ancestry. Simon, a son of Jno. Moses, born in Switzerland.. He was a toolmaker by trade, having made tools for the Revolutionary Army. Simon was born in Landisburg, PA.

It appears that Mary had two daughters to Mr. Carl - Mary and Susan Carl - before becoming a widow and marrying Simon Moses.

The Moses children appear to be Eliza, Daniel, Frances, Sarah, Joseph, Levi, Andrew, Samuel, David and Lydia.

My Heckendorn family descended from John, Clay, and Robert and lived in Pennsylvania, Nebraska and Texas. My branch of the family still lives in Texas. Would love to hear more about other parts of the family.
Julia

Heckendorns of Jefferson County PA

I'm trying to locate a Heckendorn (possibly Jacob) who was in Jefferson Co. PA around 1870-1880. He and Rachel M(ary) Kennedy b: 1856, had a child James Freddie Heckendorn b:1/31/74 in Roseville Jeff Co PA. Maybe married maybe not cause I have Rachel & Freddie living with John J Silvis b:1853 along with Curtis A Silvis, and Eddie M Greeley in Eldred on the 1880 census. This suggests that (?) Heckendorn possibly died, divorced or left Rachel & son. If you have info on any of these folks I'd love to hear from you. Please contact me at jpfinke1@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance, Jan

I think the Adam Heckendorn to which you refer may have been a brother to my descendent, Mary Magdalene Heckendorn, who was a daughter of Christian Heckendorn and Veronica (Deppen) Heckendorn, both buried in Spring Township, Perry County.

Although your Heckendorn information is not in my direct line, I find it interesting as I am always searching for tidbits regarding family connections.

Thanks for posting your information.

Barbara Kuhn

My info says that Thomas Arthur Heckendorn was born 07-18-1881 in Fayette Co., IL and died 06-30-1948 in Vista, CA.
Tom and Sadie had a son named Foster Thomas Heckendorn born 01-03-1903 in Elmdale, KS. Foster died.
Tom wed his 2nd wife Leila Gertrude Hunt on 11-07-1908 in Redlands, CA. Leila died 09-29-1924 in San Fernando, CA. Tom and Leila had 3 daughters: Bernice Madeline Heckendorn; Margaret Ellen Heckendorn and Mary Lee Heckendorn, all deceased. I believe the last wife of Tom was Ruby Brooks born 03-06-1904/Augusta, GA and died 09-01-1970/Vista, CA. Tom and Ruby had a son Thomas Andrew Heckendorn born 10-26-1947/San Diego, CA.

I hope this helps your research.

There was another George born 11Decl625 the son of Jacob Heckendorn and 'AnnaBucherin Kilclyne. These are the only two Georges born close to l625 in Langenbruck. Are you implying that you descend some way other than through Hans and and Margret Gorien(perhaps Jerein( Heckendorn who landed on the Princess Augusta.
My great-great grandfather was Jacob Heckendorn. He married a woman named Christinia. He was born in 1813 and died in 1867. Christinia was born March 5, 1813 and died Nov. 19, 1867. His father was George Jacob Heckendorn. I have trace it back to Johannes Heckendorn born in 1685 from Switzerland. If we could exchange any other info., please contact me at the e-mail address.

Family of Adam Heckendorn, Berks and Perry counties, Pa

While researching my Lyle ancestors I came across the surname Heckendorn therefore I did some deep research about the surname. Eventually I found out the Heckendorns I was seeking information about who located in Jefferson and Elk counties were not related to the Heckendorns once of Berks and Perry counties even though one of the ancestors of Adam Heckendorn (son, Christian) wound up in Elk County. According to a book titled, " Commemorative Bio's" Christian Heckendorn, was a native of Germany...when he came to USA he located in PA.....he was a skillful millwright and became quite prominent and wealthy....he died in Perry county, and his wife, who survived him for some time, passed away at the advanced age of ninety-six years....Adam Heckendorn, the father of Christian was born in Berks county PA and grew to manhood in Cumberland county.......later became a resident of Perry county.....Adam and wife, Susan (nee Fenical) Heckendorn had seven chldren: Christian, Francis, John, William, David, George and Abraham... son, George remained with his parents until the age of 18....moved east to Karthaus .... George married Miss Sophia Yothers in 1858, ...they had six children: Joseph A., a prominent merchant, mine owner, and coal operator; Sarah, deceased wife of Alvin A. Murray; Anna B, wife of Edward Read; Janetta E. wife of John Buchanan; William (to Elk County),.....an employee of the PA RR, residing in Johnsonburg, PA: and Bertha, at home......they also reared a niece, Mabel E . (a dau of William Heichel) who has made her home with them since nine months old.... I have some genealogy for William E. Heckendorn who came to Elk County (wife) Mary Ellen Roof, daughter of Samuel and Lucy (nee Searfoss) and will share it if sombody is interested.
