Surnames: Hecker, van Hecker, Udal, Freund, Friend
I bought this book because it seemed to be quite a biography of Isaac Hecker, the founder of the Paulist Fathers. I thought the genealogy in it might be helpful in connecting other Hecker's or Van Hecker's to find some answers.
Those mentioned in the book: "Henry van Hecker, who in 1567, cast his lot with William, Prince of Orange. Henry followed Wm to Dillenburg in Eastern Germany....where he renounced Catholicism and became a stanch Lutheran. This ...resulted in Henry being cut off from his inheritance in the rich Hecker-Udal estates in Holland. Two hundred years later their descendants were still in Dillenburg working......They moved to Wetzlar where they stayed but a short time until they settled in Schwalbach where John Hecker was born on 7 Nov 1782."
This John Hecker came to New York and married Susan Caroline Friend (Freund). etc. Their children were John, George, Henry, Elizabeth, and Isaac (b 18 Dec 1819 - the subject of the book). There is more information on this family in the book.
I am not related, but I would like to connect this book with a family member or family researcher. Please contact me if you have an interest in this book.
