Margaret Virginia Powell Heckerman Obituary

From the generosity of Penny in Ohio, I have been able to obtain several obituaries pertaining to my family and I promised Penny that I would post them on the internet for all to see so that others would prosper from her work for me. So attached is the first obituary from the list that I gave her that I needed. I hope that I am doing this correctly and that others will be able to find information from these records that will be helpful to them. Thank you Penny.

Florence versus Gail Heckerman in Hancock County, Ohio - b. 1892

I am trying to verify if a person that appears on the census is one person or two different people. There is a huge discrepancy in the census records related to this person. In the census records from 1900 and 1910...there is a daughter listed for Charles F. and Margaret (Maggie) V. Heckerman living in Blanchard Township, Hancock County, Ohio. Her name is Florence G. or J. (the initial varies between the two census records). In 1920...there is a name listed for a daughter for the same parents, aged 26, by the name of Gail Heckerman and Florence no longer appears. The age is a little off from the prior census records and if you use the age to determine birth year..the year of birth would be 1894 not 1892 as in earlier census's...the question becomes...is there another daughter??? The other census records show that Maggie had 3 children but only 2 were still alive at the time of these censuses....and the birth date of this questionable 3rd daughter could be wrong. The 1900 census clearly shows the birth date of the known daughter, Florence, to be February 1892...BUT then the 1930 Census for this same family again shows the "questionable" daughter, Gail F., this time with an initial, as being 38...putting her back into the correct age bracket of being born in the year of 1892????? So is Florence really Gail???? I have not been able to find the correct answer to this question by searching the census records...so I am wondering if there is anyone out there who can help me determine if Florence and Gail are the same person???

My grandmother's name was Pearl Heckerman, she died in Weston, Ohio in 1974. She married Clarence Weaver, who died during the Depression. They had three children, Donovan, Zola, and Dean. After Clarence Weaver's death, she married Charles Joseph.

I am interested in any information about the Heckermans and the Gingerys

Samuel HECKERMAN b. PA 1804?>Hancock Co. OH

I am descended from Samuel HECKERMAN, said to be b. Lancaster, PA abt. 1804, m. Christianna ? said to be b. in Baden abt. 1807. The two trees I found at Ancestry.com that are relevant, include no source information. There are no Heckermans in the US census prior to 1840. So Samuel must have changed his name, or the PA birth info is wrong. One of his sons, Osterlin, is said to have been born in Shiresmantown, PA, which is in Cumberland Co, in 1847. Then in the 1850 census the whole family, that is, Samuel, wife Christianna, ch. Franklin, Elizabeth, Samuel, Catharine, (Mary, now Roland), John, Daniel, Gabrael H., and Osterlin, are in Blanchard Twp., Hancock Co. OH (except Mary, who is already married to Philip ROLAND and living in Liberty Twp. nearby – this Mary is my ancestor). Does anyone have a clue as to what this family’s name was in PA, or whether the PA birth info is wrong? I am looking into HECKMAN, HECKERNELL, HICKERNELL, and HAGERMAN as possible original names, but it’s too much data to crunch without more info to help make links.

Please email me at La424 at comcast.net if you’re interested in discussing this problem, or just have a clue for me.

Thanks,
Laurie Osborn
Clarence HECKERMAN - Ohio

I have the following HECKERMAN:

HECKERMAN, Clarence E. b.ca 1868 Ohio
father: John HECKERMAN ca 1841-bef 1880
mother: Catherine GEORGE ca 1843-bef 1880
Resided Blanchard Township, Hancock Co., Ohio
married: 15 Aug 1897 Carrie Hall CARTER

I believe that John Catherine are the correct parents for Clarence E. HECKERMAN. It appears that both died before 1880 as their children are living with other families in the 1880 Census. Clarence is listed as living with the family of Justus CHASE of Liberty Twp, Hancock Co., Ohio.

There is also Nellie HECKERMAN living with the family of Robert CHASE in Liberty Twp.

Louis HECKERMAN living with the WITSNON? (could this be WATSON) family of Liberty Twp.

And Tracy HECKERMAN living with the family of W. C. WATSON Jr also of Liberty Twp.

Any info on Clarence of his parents is appreciated. Is anyone else researching this family?

Loretta
