My Heckman ancestors are from Berks County - near Reading. Five of the nine generations preceding me were named Peter, as is one of my sons (I did not know this at the time I named him!).
There were two lines of Heckman families in Berk County in the 1700s; their relationship has not been determined (although we could settle this with DNA testing, which I have not seriously considered - given the current cost), and the origin of the "other" Heckman family has not been clearly determined.
Please tell me more about how you know your Peter lived near Reading, and what else you know about that: do you know where your Peter lived in Berks County (what township)?
