Thanks, Deandra for your response. Unfortunately, there is a bit of a problem with the data. The date you have for James' death is 1854 and that is correct. When the lair records are studied, one finds that James was only 60 when he died, which would indicate that he could not have been born until the 1790s. The 1841 census records show that he was 40 and as this is possibly a rounded up/down numbers, the year of James' birth, I believe is around1794. His wife Margaret Collie, fortunately died when the statutory records were in. her death certificate shows that her parents were William Collie and Ann Edwards!
I have scanned the marriage records for possible parents for 'our' James and feel that one of the only possibilities is the James Hector who married Janet Williamson. Unfortunately, I can find our very little about this couple.
If you had any information that might fit, I would be most grateful.
I do have the "Aberdeen Tree" showing the Hector Line right back to the 1600s, but I have not been able to find a link from 'our' James to it.
