My family website is here:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~amylyn/

I have a page for photos and documents. A direct link to Clem's death certificate is here:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~amylyn/ima...

Clem's father died sometime before the 1880 census; no record has been found. His mother's parents died when the Webb children were young and some lived with the Pulley family, that's why Clem was living with them in 1880, there's a family connection somewhere but I have yet to find it.

Jacob was married twice, the first time to Mary Bane who died in 1855. He then remarried to Sarah Jane Webb, most likely because she needed a home (he was over 35 years her senior). They had at least 5 more children; he fathered at least 13 children in all.

My family were very unusual when talking about their origins. My grandfather would never admit to being German and always said we were Pennsylvania "Dutch" which was really Penn. Deutsch (meaning German). The family was from Virginia and before that Pennsylvania.

Anyways, most all of the family documents and photos are on my website.

Amy Hedrick
GlynnGen.com Webmaster

Thanks for the reply and the info...It is certainly an odd coincidence...the reason I suspected that Clement born June 1863 was Jacob's son was the census birthplace for Jacob is VA and that Clement who married Nellie Winegar consistently put his father's bp as VA whereas the Clement with Florence census mostly shows his father's bp as PA...of course errors in that are not uncommon..there is a site on the web that showed alternative PA parents for Clement bn Aug 1963 but of course I can't find it again!...the 1880 census for the two Clements also show the different paternal bplaces; however, if you have other documentation then that would settle the matter..Could you post it to stop me from going down blind alleys? The Elkhart County 'history' refers to Clement and Nellie's marriage; I'll recheck to see if they offer parentage...thanks again...Jerri

My great-grandfather was Clement V. Hedrick son of Jacob Hedrick and Sarah Jane Webb of Grant/Huntington Counties, Indiana. He married Florence Allen

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

I have photos of them and documentation. I don't know who Clement that married Nellie Winegar is, but it's not the Clement who was s/o of Jacob & Sarah unless there was another Jacob & Sarah.

Six children were born to Clem & Flora but only 4 survived, one being my grandfather, Wordner.

Amy Hedrick

In 1880 census one Clement age 16 was in Washington, Grant Indiana as a farm laborer for the Pulley family; gives his b.pl as Indiana and his father's as PA; the other Clement age 16 bn IN father bn VA was in York, Elkhart IN as a farmer with his uncle/aunt John and Eliz Showatter...I believe the second one married my cousin and the other one married Flora...if you can access ancestry.com search site and type in Clement's name the info on the one brn aug 1863 who married Flora comes up with a lot of detail provided by others; however they do confuse the two as to parents and some show Clement Jr bn 1890 as son of Flora when he is son of my cousin Nellie...hope this helps...if not write again...Jerri

Hi,

I'm looking for parent details for my g-grandfather, Richard Worth HEDRICKS, b. 1859, somewhere in Indiana. I have the names James HEDRICKS (b. IN) & Jane SADLER (b. KY) from his marriage license in 1913, Spencer Co., IN (his 2nd marriage). I have him from his first marriage (1879, Trimble Co., KY) until his death in 1939 (Spencer Co., IN) but have not been able to locate him in an 1860 or 1870 Census.

I would be interested in knowing what area of Indiana the Clement who married Flora was from, if you know that.

Thanks,

Jane Gibbs Wheaton

There is understandable confusion over Clement Hedrick as there is apparently two of them born in 1863; the son of Jacob and Sara from VA married my "cousin" Nellie F. Winegar and became a druggist and then physician in Kansas City MO where his only child Clement was born; son is back in IN 1930 with wife Evelyn and widowed mother, Nellie F; the other married Flora in IN and had a much larger family; if anyone wants more detail to substantiate this, let me know...Jerri in CA

Hello, my name is Crystal Criss-Sexton and I found your post. I know it has been a while, but I was wondering if you've found any more info on Jessie and Mary Heffner? My husband's great-grandmother was Katie Belle Heffner who married Elmer C. Gillette. I hit a roadblock when trying to research beyond her parents. I didn't have her mother's maiden name or her father's middle name, so thank you for that info. If you get this message and have any further info, please let me know. Thank You and hope to hear from you soon. Crystal

Sharolyn,
We've communicated before about James Hedrick, born 2 October 1833 (Illinois or Kentucky?), died 11 Feb 1910, in Sanger, CA, lived in Sugar Creek, Barry County for 1860 and 1870 Censuses. We were trying to figure out if he fought for Confederacy.
His death certificate says he was born in Illinois; informant is J.W. Hedrick (probably Joseph W., my g-grandfather). But, the 1860 Census says Kentucky. I'm guessing there were boundary changes that are fouling up our research.
Anyway, the 1860 Census also has Charles Hedrick living in Sugar Creek, with wife Sarah, and two males--W.T., aged 14, and Thorn Gadis, aged 9. Charles Hedrick is listed as father of James on James' death certificate. So, W.T. must be a sibling, or as you suggest, a half-brother. Are you relatively certain that W.T. would be William T. And who might Thorn Gadis be? Is Gadis his middle name or last name? The image suggests it is his last name. Do you think Thorn might also be what William T stands for? Have you learned anything more about other children of Charles, Joseph, Hannah, James, or others?
The last time we emailed each other you were facing some difficulties. How are things going for you now?
Sharon Whitney

Melainie James:
John Martin Hedrick was born in 1789 in North Carolina, and married Abigail Bailey, I show had 9 children with Abigail, then married Mary (Polly) Justice, having at least 6 more children with Mary. He was my ggggrandfather, and the son of John (Johan)H. Hedrick, b. 1755 in Pennsylvania, and Louisa Lovi. He and Abigail did have a son, John Henry Hedrick. They did go to Missouri, where he died, as well as some more of their group. There is a set of stories about their trip and Mary's return trip to Tennessee, as well as the ensuing lawsuit over the estate, filed by a preacher, which she eventually won, which can be accessed on the internet, and it is detailed in a book written by the preacher. Originally, Johan's family, crossing Ireland, did get on the boat in Scotland to come to this country, but were Germans fleeing religious presecution, right down to speaking German in their households in the new country; but I don't see an Alford who married an Elizabeth. John Martin's son, David Davault is the father of my great grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Hedrick, b. 1851 in Cocke Co., Tennessee, buried in the Brashear, Hopkins Co, Texas cemtery, which was mostly donated by her brother, uncle Dave Hedrick, a school teacher in Brashear. If you have any other information concerning these relatives, I would be ever so grateful if you could share, as I have only been working on the Hedricks for the last few years, after discovering that the Hedrick in the cemetery was my great grandmother. I have gotten a lot of information from Billie Miller, a cousin. I, too, would like to know the names of Johan's parents. Are you a cousin, too?

Another Hedrick cemetery is located in Seneca Rock. My Grandmother was born in 1880's. (Pendleton, county). My Grandmother married Lewis Ellsworth Spangler Sr.(Miller Hil, near St. George) and they lived in Parsons, where my mother, Eleanor (Pete) LaCigale Spangler (McNair) the youngest of three siblings (one brother Lewis Jr. (Pie), and sister, Neva Pauline (Pat). were born and grew-up.
My mother married my father, Donald Ray McNair(from Herdon, VA, Alexandra, VA and Indian Head MD), in 1948.
Brothers Christoph, George, and Peter arive in PA 1738. The land they are given is in three different counties Berks, York and Lancaster.
Peter has a son known as Capt Peter. Capt Peter moves to Rowan County, NC followed by his brother Adam. They are soon joined by Frances SR (#1)born 1748 the son of Uncle Christoph. Frances #1 marries Margaret Kerns and has Frances #3. Frances #3 marries Elizabeth Smith and Their son David moves to Dent County MO. Christoph's name was changed to Hetrick and most of his sons have that spelling.

Capt Peter has a son named Frances #2 born 1780 in Augusta County VA durning the REV. Frances marries Margaret Howard and has Frances #4 born 1817. This family moves to IN.

I have one or more Frances but this thread was started looking for information on William Franklin Hedrick.

William Franklin Hedrick was born in Beverly Township Nov 28 1838 son of George and Elizabeth (Peacock) Hedrick. He served with his brother George Washington Hedrick in the Civil War where George Washington Hedrick was killed at Franklin, TN. He returned to his farm and helped raise his brothers children. He is buried in Kingsport Methodist Cemetery Beverly, Illinois. One of his brother's sons was named William Franklin Hedrick. William #2 is buried in Marden Cemetery, Brown County, IL.

The three 1738 brothers had a 4th brother Nickel join them in PA in 1742 he lived in York County.

Soon a cousin Jacob will show up making 5 descendents of Godtmann to move to PA.

Thomas J Hedrick's (Born Blount, Tn) Father James Hedrick from Tn

I'm tracing the lineage of Thomas J Hedrick, My Grandfather.

So far, i have found a reference in: History of Jackson County by W. Z. Hickman, there are a couple of paragraphs about the Hedrick Family of Buckner, MO.

"Hedrick, James who died in 1903 was married to Elizabeth (Mary Jane) Ray, (?b. 1827) d. 1898. The Hedrick (Heidrich) family came to America From Germany in the 1700’s and settled in what was then Lancaster County. Pennsylvania. Desiring religions and personal freedom, they helped to establish a free colony. James Hedrick moved west and settled around Sevierville, TN. He served in the Union Army During the Civil War with a Tennessee regiment. Family stories indicate that he fought with General Sherman in his march to the sea, and helped to capture Atlanta, Georgia. James Hedrick and his brother, William Hedrick, settled in Jackson County, Missouri prior to 1900."

Thomas Jefferson (my grandfather), “T. J.”, “Tom” Hedrick b. 1/4/1860. d 5/29/1923 came to Jackson County in the spring of 1878, and for the next four years worked as a farm hand at monthly wages (he is on the 1880 census as a farm hand at Martin Larey's farm, . He then rented a tract of land and later purchased a farm. On 9/20/1882, Thomas Jefferson Hedrick married Maude Mershon b. 9/13/1864 d. 2/22/1937, daughter of Eli and Mary Elizabeth Mershon. While engaged in farming he became interested in the buying and selling of livestock and thus found his niche in the commercial and agricultural life of Jackson County. He made a pronounced success as a livestock dealer. He moved to Buckner in 1898 and established the Hedrick Grain Elivator 1889. He made Buckner the central point for the conduct of his large business from then on out. Tom Hedrick and his son, Rex, purchased the flour mill from Richard Chatburn and it was renamed “Hedrick and Son”. Tom Hedrick was appointed in 1909 by Governor Herbert Hadley to the Missouri State Board of Agriculture and he held that office until 1921, when he was appointed by Governor Hyde as the Missouri State Grain and Warehouse Commissioner. He was prominent in the affairs of the Republican party and was a member of the Republican State Central Committee.

Tom and Maude Hedrick had five children: Merle Hedrick b. 6/17/1883 d 10/26/1887 of diphtheria, Rex Vincent Hedrick, Guy Clarence Hedrick (my father), Ruie Hedrick (see Jonas Chatburn), and Amy Hedrick (see Martin Larey). Tom and Maude Hedrick were active members of the Buckner Episcopal Church, and active members of the Accepted Masons, the Eastern Star, and fraternal insurance orders.

The following list of James Hedrick’s children were taken from that History of Jackson County. "As of 1920 William and James, Jr. were deceased. John lived in Atherton, Missouri. Thomas Jefferson lived in Buckner, Missouri. Robert had died in Ponca City, Oklahoma are. An infant daughter and Eliza were deceased."

What I have been able to confirm by using census data of the statements in the Book.

1850 Census of Blount County, TN, Shows James Headrick - age 18 & Jane Headrick - age 20, no children, but liffing with William King (also in the house Eliza King (I think this was second marriage, I think Eliza King was once Eliza Rhea), also in that household Alec Rhea (?), and younger King children.

1850 Blount County Marriages, Hedrick & Mary Jane Rhea, Oct 1850.

1860 Census of Blount County, TN, shows James Hedrick - age 30 and Jane Hedrick - age 30, with children William (age 8), James (age 6), John (age 4), Elizabeth Hedrick (age 2), and Thomas (6 months old on July 30, 1860 born 1/4/1860) This is TJ's and my Grandfather.

James enlisted in the Union Army on October 1, 1862, in the TN 5th Regiment. He was wounded May 14, 1864, in the battle at Resaca. After being wounded, he was listed for 70 days as a deserter Nov 12, 1864 returning February 1, 1865. He was discharged June 30, 1865. But, records show he was restored to duty by the War Department Jun 31, 1867. This decision was upheld by the War Department on December 23, 1887. He had a disability from the injury and is listed in 1890 on the Special Schedule Of Surviving Soldiers, Sailors, And Marines And Widows from Fort Osage, Jackson County, Missouri. On that report, he is shown as living with or near Thomas Jefferson Hedrick (born 1/4/1860 in Brick Mills, Blount County TN), now living in Buckner MO.

The 1870 Census from Brick Mills post office, Blount County, TN, has James (age 43) and Mary Jane (age 43), all of the children are listed as 10 years older than in the 1860 Census. In addition to William (age 18), James (age 16), John (age 14), Elizabeth Hedrick (age 12), Thomas (age 10), there three more children born after the 1860 census, Eliza J (age 8, born prior to enlistment), Robert A (age 4, born about a year after his discharge), and Amanda L, (8 mos old in 1870).

1880:	James and Mary Jane are still in Blount County, the census records 1880, in the First Civil district of Blount County TN, James and Mary Jane are listed, (this time ages 52 and 51, this is consistent with estimated ages), with Robert A age 14, and Eliza Jane now Age 17. As noted in the book mentioned, Amanda died in infancy.

By 1880, Thomas Jefferson moved to MO, and is listed as a farm hand (age 20) on the farm of Martin Larey, now in Fort Osage Township, Jackson County MO.

Marriage records show that Thomas Jefferson married Maud Mershon on September 20 1882, in Jackson County Missouri.

By the time of the 1900 census, Thomas Jefferson, is listed with wife Maud, and children, Rex (b1887), Clarance G (b1889) (my father), Ruie, (B1891), and Amy Elizabeth (b 1894). The DAR records show Amy Elizabeth married a son or grandson of Martin Larey, the owner of the farm Thomas J worked on in 1880.

James, from Blount County Tn, Married Mary Jane Rhea, in 1850. Anyone have these two people in their line?
DAR shows a Francis Hedrick, who was the son of Capt. Peter Hedrick, as having moved to Washington Co, Indiana and dying there ante 19 July 1855. He was married to an Elizabeth. There are DAR applications going through a daughter Mary, and a son Jesse. Nothing through a Nancy or Rachel. Their records have this Francis born in 1780; his father Peter born 17 Dec 1733 in Bavaria, died 24 Jan 1798 in Rowan County, married to Margaret Herrick. Hope this is the right one.

Jeannine

I might be able to help you with the various Francis Hedricks. There was a Francis Hedrick who was of the same generation as Capt. Peter Hedrick, of Rowan County. I'm going to call him Francis #1. I do not know if they were related. Capt. Peter had a son named Francis. I'll call hiim Francis #2. Francis #1 also had a son named Francis. I'll call him Francis #3. Francis #1 left a will, naming his son Francis (#3), and a daughter Susanna, and wife Margaret. Margaret Hedrick tried to get a pension based on Francis #1's Revolutionar War service, which was rejected. Her maiden name is shown as Kerns/Kearns in that rejected pension.

Francis #3, married an Elizabeth, who was the daughter of David Smith. I haven't figured out which David Smith. They had two children, David Headrick, and Margaret, who married Leonard Beck. David has a biography in Ozark Heritage, also one in the 1889 edition of Goodspeed's history of LaClede etc. Counties, Missouri.

I have documentation for all of this if you would like copies. I descend from Francis #1, I also descend from Capt. Peter Hedrick through his son George. Thank God I don't descend through Francis #2 or I never would have figured all this out.

Jeannine Dobbins
Thanks for all of this information. I really appreciate your response. I guess your information explains the census I found and should settle it for me, but I'm still a bit lost. I'm sorry to continue to be confused, but I still do not know who the father of "my" Francis Hedrick is in all of this information. Sorry to be so dense. My Francis Hedrick married Margaret Elizabeth Howard in Rowan County, NC and they had many children there before moving to Washington Co., Indiana - including Nancy Hedrick and Rachel Hedrick. Nancy Hedrick married James H. Sumner and Rachel Hedrick married Elijah C. "Lige" Sumner in Indiana. Does all your information have any Sumner families included? Thanks!

Trying to find the parents of William Hedrick, William in Rush Co. Indiana in 1910 census married to Sarah Sherwood Jones, reports both of his parents (John & ?) were born in Maryland but I can't find any of them in prior census. Any Hedrick's with Marland/Indiana connections that can help would be appreciated! I read somewhere that several people traveled from Maryland into Tennessee also, looking to see if there is any connection to Hedrick's eventually located in east/central Indiana.

Billie,
My information shows that Davault was indeed born in Cocke, co, Tennessee, but that his father (John M....Martin?..died in 1844 in Missouri, but was perhaps born in North Carolina, where his father, John H. Headrick (b. 1755 in Pennsylvania) actually died in 1830. You are a wealth of information, and I would love to pick your brain about these Hedricks. That family donated a large portion of the Brashear, Texas cemetery where some of my Hedricks are buried, along with a huge number of our relatives. Mary Elizabeth Hedrick Baxter (wife of William C. Baxter) was my great grandmother. Let's compare.
Gene Baxter
I am the great great grandson of David "Davault" Hedrick, who was the grandson of John (Johan) Headrick, b. 1755 from Germany, said to be from Ireland because he came to this country via Ireland, but never was Irish in any way. He spoke German, as did his children, one of whom was John Martin Hedrick, Davault's father. He wass the beginning, we believe, of the Hedrick line in this country, since we have no other data. My ggrandmother was Mary Elizabeth Hedrick Baxter (could have been someone's aunt Lizzie), whose brother or uncle one donated a large portion of the cemetery in Brashear. I think he was a school teacher. My father, Elton Baxter, well remembers the Hedricks. Our aunt Sherry Elliot is the caretaker of that cemetery at this time. Davault also had a daughter named Eliza who might be this person. My information shows that he had at least 6 (or more)sons, and probably 7(or more) daughters. We are currently researching the Headricks, and are finding out more and more. I was reared in Greenville, Texas, and didn't know that we were even related to any Hedricks back then. Send me any information you have; I'd love to receive anything you have about my great grandparents.
Thanks,

Hi,I just read your posting and this family is of high interest to my search.I have a few bits of info but there is always room for more info. The family of Hoppess in that area were of my main research but it is connected to the Bonham's.It appears that there was a very strong connection to the churches in that area and as I am finding out that
there was a Minister or Reverend in just about all the families that I am researching and a N.C. connection,As I follow the trail I am also finding that they appear to be coming out of PA.There is a person that I recently found
in the list of burials in the St. Paul Cemetery so if any one else is reading I am looking for more info on Reverend
John Hoppess B:12/21/1745-D:6/6/1836 buried in this cemetery
and there is an indication that he was out of War,Pa..This
is a lengthy reply and I will be happy to collaberate my
info.

Re: Hedrick family of Davidson Co., NC

Hello,

My Hedricks came from Catawba Co., NC and have some of the Hedrick genealogy from Catawba Co., NC that was given to me by a Shirley (have to check spelling of last name). Anyway, Shirley passed away a few years ago and have not found anyone else researching the Hedrick's from that county. My ancestor left NC and came to Cocke Co., TN. Anyway, I did check to see if I had a Sarah Hedrick and found no Sarah born in the early 1800's. This does not mean she doesn't belong to this family. There's always siblings in each generation where as all their descendants have not been either located or found. My Andrew Headrick's brother spoke German and English and guessing my Andrew also spoke German. It's possible that your Sarah may of also spoke German and why they stated she was born there. And this is not saying she wasn't.

As for the death certificate stating your Sarah was born in Germany. The family may of only known that their family was from Germany. I have a death certificate on anyother line that stated my gg grandfather was born in Germany, but was born in SC.

Below is a three generation descendant chart. Because of space, I only put their birth dates here. Because this is Shirley's file, she doesn't have anything on My John Jr. My lineage here goes:

1 John H. Hedrick Sr. m. Louise (Louiza) Lovi
..2 John H. Hedrick Jr. m Abagail Baily
....3 Andrew Headrick m. Eliza Bell Justice
......4 William Andrew Headrick m. Mary Ellen Haynes
........5 Oscar Samuel Headrick m. Lucy Luella Frayer
..........6 Mary Ellen Headrick m. George Bates Underwood

#6 are my grandparents:.. .

Descendants of John H. Sr. Hedrick

1 John H.
Thanks for the response. I will look over what you sent and see if I can piece anything together with it. I do remember my grandfather talking about some of his ancestors "coming across on a row boat" is how he told it. He would say something about them being "Portagee" (his words). Sarah was his grandmother.

Many Thanks,
Nina

Hi
I am just starting to do research on my Hedrick ancestors. My great great grandmother was Sarah Hedrick married to David Chester. They were born in the early 1800's. I believe David may have been born in 1819 and Sarah abt 1821.I recently got a copy of her daughter's death certificate and it said Sarah was born in Germany. Other information I have seen, said they were both born in Catawba Co. NC. I haven't been able to locate anything prior to about 1850 in Burke Co NC. Does anyone know anything about them. I have the Chester genealogy coming forward. Thanks
