Samuel's 8 children included J. W. "Will" (b.1855), Eva (b.1857), Clara, Dellie, and Jessie (b.1869, d.1876). One daughter married John W. Smith, possibly of Logansport, IN. This Samuel owned and ran a wagon and carriage factory in Rochester for many years. His daughter, Eva Christina, married into my Cooper line in 1878. His father, also named Samuel (1789-1840) married Mary Myers (1789-1857).

Your number 1 Samuel appears to be my 3g grandfather up a maternal line. I have his birth date different, older by three years, but everything else offered here matches what I have. I made a new posting which you may want to consult. If we are talking about the same Samuel, his son was a well-known wagon maker in Rochester, IN. That son, also named Samuel, had a daughter (Eva Christina, fourth of eight children) who married into the Cooper line in 1878. I have the original Samuel's wife as Mary Myers, 1789-1857. You say Pam Smith is researching this Samuel; I would like to compare notes.

Mary, I realize that this is an old post, hope it gets to you. My family is from Maryland to Ohio to Indiana to Oregon. G-G-grandfather was Samuel Cyrus, wife Mary Meyers. Both buried in Wayne Co, Ind. His son Jacob is my g-grandfather. I have pictures from Indiana,and of course many from Oregon.

Talked to my dad, Allen, & got more info. The marriage between Horace & Lois is the same one, however, the birthdate for Horace is actually December 7th, 1908, but I did confirm all of this with my dad. He still keeps in contact with the Robertson side as well!!! Most live in Marshall, AR....

I have a picture somewhere of their gravestones, when we laid flowers there recently... Kind-of an odd thing, to take a picture, but my dad doesn't get to visit here often. My dad, Allen, incidentally, currently lives in Arkansas.

I have a Horace Jennings Hefley, born 09 Dec 1908 in Arkansas, married to Lois Robertson however no children listed for them.

Are you 100% positive on the names? Could they have been middle names used instead, still with the Heffley name? I only ask because this sounds ALOT like my family. My father is the youngest of ten, so I don't get as much info cuz they're all so much older, but I do know some. I know that one of my aunts on the Heffley side, as well as 2 of my uncles on the Heffley side that resided in California have passed away. Nell was the Aunt....

My maiden name is Heffley... I, too, have been looking for the lost ones. I know of a few in my family. My grandfather was Horace Heffley, wife Lois Heffley (my namesake), they had ten children: my father, Allen Heffley is the youngest of the ten.

I don't know alot, but you never know what can be found these days. I believe my dad said I was some Irish and some Native American, yet I don't know which tribe, nor how far back that part is.....

2 Arrested In Attack On Rafters

Texas authorities on Tuesday arrested two teenagers
in connection with the sniper attack on three
people who were white-water rafting down the
Rio Grande on Nov.19.

Michael Heffley, 40, of Eastland, Texas, was killed by
a rifle shot in the back when he tried to drag his
wounded wife to safety. Jamie Heffley, 32, suffered gunshot
wounds to the side and shoulder. River guide Jim Barr
was shot in the right thigh.

Heffley worked for Oklahoma based Big State X-Ray.

Wade Penn, a longtime friend of the Heffley's and
owner of Big State in Chickasha, told the Oklahoman
late Tuesday he was glad to hear authorities had
made the two arrests. Texas authorities said they expect to
make two more arrests in the ambush.

"I want 'em all. This is senseless... I'm tickled
to death they caught two of 'em. It's the best news
I've had since it happened," he said.

Eduardo Pineda Rodriguez, 17, was arrested Tuesday morning
at this parents' home east of the Big Bend village of
Redford, said Presidio County Sheriff Rick Thompson. A
16-year-old, whose name was being withheld, was arrested by
Chihuahua state judicial police in Ojinaga, Mexico.

Pineda, a Mexican citizen who is a resident alien of the
United States, also was arrested in connection with the shootings
of Jamie Heffley and Barr.

Penn said he believes the teenagers, if convicted, should receive
the death penalty.

"It's an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. When I was 16 and
17, I was old enough to know right from wrong, especially murder.
There should be no mercy for them if they're the right people," Penn
said. "Murder is senseless. There's no reason for it."

Jamie Heffley agreed that her assailants should receive the
death sentence for the attack.

"I'm glad about the news, but I think there are two more out there,"
she said. "From what I understand, I remember that I had seen four.

"I'm glad that they are being caught and I think this...should be made
a public example. I think they should be executed, because if they
are not, relations will bever get better across the border. Nobody
should have to go through this kind of torture,"she said.

Authorities said the trio was rafting down the Rio Grande about 20 miles
east of Redford when shots were fired on them from a 300-foot-high canyon
rim on the river's Mexican side. Police said the gunmen apparently opened
fire without reason.

Authorities believe between 20 and 30 shots were fired at the rafters.

"We have no motive for the shootings." Thompson said, adding that both
teenagers gave statements implicating each other.

*Eduardo Rodriguez Pineda received 30 years.

Still looking for Tobe (Dobe? Jobe?) Heffley b 1868 and wife, Sallie b 1864. This couple is listed in 1900 Federal census, Bedford County, TN, (ED9, sheet 4) with Sallie's sister, Becky Banks(1852), widow, and Becky's children, Joe or John(1883) and Minnie(1884). All individuals in this family group, as well as their parents, were born TN-- a long time TN family. Becky's daughter, Minnie Banks, married Sam Samento in Alabama in 1911. She may have married a Loring or Lairing first.

I am very interested in information concerning Samual Syrus Heffley. My tree goes from grandfather Leslie, Ggrandfather William Harrison, GGgrandafather Henry Clay, GGGgrandfather Jacob, to Samual Syrus whom was my GGGGgrandfather. I have been living in Germany with the US Air Force for the past 19 years, I speak German and would really love to find relatives here in Germany. Samuel had at least one son, also named Samuel (1828-1899). This son married Sarah PENCE and had a daughter, Eva C. Heffley, who married into my paternal line and became my ggrandmother. At that stage Eva was living in Rochester, IN, and was married in the Methodist Church. I have very little information but Eva was the fourth of eight children. See my separate post on this date. I am primarily looking to research the Cooper line, but if I can be of any help I will do so. I have connections to the Heffleys in Ohio and Indiana, but the information I have is scant. Slight as it is, it may be helpful to you. My ggrandfather married Eva Christina Heffley (b. 1857, d. 1921). The only known connection I have to the Heffleys in Ohio is that my gg came from there, but he married Eva in Rochester, IN (1878). She was the daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Pence) Heffley. They had three children (see my separate post this date to the Heffley message board). Her father (Samuel) was a carriage builder in Rochester. I had a scale model that he built, but my wicked stepmother got it when she ripped us off for the family estate. William Heffley, Civil War sailor

Would anyone be interested in information on the death of William Heffley, Ordinary Seaman aboard the USS Pittsburg in 1864? He was killed while up Red River above Natchitoches, La., and buried near there. (Shot through the body, died instantly, while aboard the transport "Brown." Brought back to the "Pittsburg" a few days later and buried on the river bank two miles below Natchitoches Landing. Most of the ship's officers and 20 men attended the funeral.) Does anyone know anything about this man, such as where he was from or who his family was?

No, I'm afraid I haven't heard much new from anyone. I was hoping a couple of facts might prove useful in finding some related Heffleys. First, and foremost, the last of the heffley line I know about is also named Eva. Eva Christina Heffley (1857-1921) had an identical twin sister, named Clara. Eva was one of eight children, and married into the Cooper line in 1878. Second, Eva's father (Samuel Heffley, 1828-1899) was a carriage maker and had a carriage shop in Rochester, IN. Not much to go on, I know. But here's hoping you find some important clues.

I have no info beyond Johannes Carl Haffelee, born about 1715 in Eggenstein, Germany and Mr. Ilgenfritz, born about 1524, in Oberwornitz, Middle Franconia, Germany. If anyone can suggest a way to research beyond this in Europe, please let me know.

My spouse's fraternal ancestors are from Poland and settled in Iowa. Her maternal ancestors are from Scotland and England and settled in Mass. and Calif.

I have over 4,000 names in my relatives database including many Hefleys but no record of these names. Maybe from another branch. My oldest Heffley descendent is Johan Karl Haffelee, b:1715 in Eggenstein, Germany. I'm told that the correct spelling of this name in Germany was Hoefle. He immigrated to the US in 1737 and part of the family became Heffley and part Hefley. Good luck.

A few days ago I found a HEFELE family in the free US Census from 1880. This one:

HEFELE, George, * IN 1874
HEFELE, Frederick, * IN 1876

Does anybody know if 'Lewis' is the English form of 'Ludwig'?

I'm a little bit confused about the living area because I have NY in my data as place of death for Barbara HEFELE, but the family I found in the Census lived in IN.

There are very few families with the name HEFELE in the free Census of 1880 and only one woman in the hole US Census was called 'Barbara' and was born in 1839.

My search for living HEFELEs on www.whitepages.com brought no result for this name in hole IN.

There are more data about this family on ancestry.com. Unfortunately I don't have a creditcard because I don't need one in Germany and I have no idea how to upgrade my account without one.

It would be great if someone would do a lookup for me, could give me a hint or would search for the same family !
