Hello, I was excited to see your post. I am also looking for infomation on Hefts. My husbands grandfather was Frederick Heft b. 14, Nov 1869, Chelsey, Ontario, Cananda d. 2, Nov. 1965. Baker, Oregon, USA. He is buried in Oregon City, Oregon. We think that Fred Heft and Gustima Moehnke are his parents but do not know for sure. We do know that he had a sister, Lena Heft b. 29, Nov. 1864, d. 18, June 1965. We think that he also had a sister, Marie Heft and a brother John Heft. But nothing to confirm that. If any of this informaion is on your records we may be related. Please get back to me. Thank you, Cheryl

Brad or any other Heft, If your still looking for Hefts, have you found any Hefts that were born in Chelsey, ON, Canada? My husbands grandfather was born there. His name was Frederick Heft. His father also Frederick and his mother was Gustima Moehnke. They moved to the Portland, Oregon area and Echo, Oregon. If you have any information on any of them, would really appreciate it. Cheryl rrforest@peoplepc.com

Hi. Marjorie. Nice to hear from you. I know who the cousins were who went to Dimbach, as I had alerted them to the bible in Speyer. I am going over to Dimbach this summer to see the town and bible myself. I have all the family connections established due to help from Erich Heft in Dimbach. I would be interested in knowing what was written in the journal of your great grandfather if it has information on life in Dimbach. I am also interested in finding out about a George Funk who had a butcher shop in NYC in the late 1800's and hired John Heft to help him. I am not sure this is the same George you mention. Please email me at stmsct@aol.com. Steve

Hi Steve,

I am decended from Lewis and Elizabeth (Schafer) Heft. I grew up in southeastern Ohio & I'd be happy to give you any information I can. Cousins of mine were in Dimbach last year and did some research, also. I very recently found a journal that Lewis Heft Sr. used (he had a son named Lewis, also, who is my grandfather) in which the name Funk appears twice; George Funk of Plenu (?), New York and Friedrich Funk of Syracuse, New York. I also have many letters written to Lewis Sr. from Germany and places in the US. All but two are in German. Do you have any suggestions about how to go about getting them translated?

Thanks! - Marjorie
Re: A little more info about us Hefts

My name is Ralph Williams Heft. My Great Great Grandfather was Samual (1828-1898) and his Wife was / Elizabeth (1834-1877). According to the Macon County Census of 1880, they had 8 children that survived birth. The sons names were William, Marion Scott, Samuel Foster and John A. The daughters names are Elizebeth O., Ethel A.,Mary C., and Clara E.

My Great Grandfather was Marion Scott Heft (AKA Scott) with his wife Priscilla Ann (aka Ann). They had three children, Ralph William Heft (my Grandfather), Grace, and Raymond.

Most of my relatives from my fathers father side of the family are from the Decatur area. Most if not all were farmers.

I know a little about who's who in the Heft family but the ones who know a lot more than I live in Decatur if they're still alive. A woman named Leah Doss and her Brother Donald Gepford are the best and maybe the last source of information. They're both children of Grace. Also a woman named Jesse Ruth.

I have some pictures of the "Heft" cemetary located by a little road next to a corn field outside of Decatur.

If you'd like you can contact me via E-mail. I live in the Chicagoland area..

Ralph Heft

Hi Ric,

i am equally looking for Hefts around the globe. My name is Matthias Heft, I am 43 yrs old and I live in Duesseldorf, Germany. My father and grandfather were born in southern Germany, close to Heidelberg in a small village called Neidenstein. As for most of the German Hefts, some of my ancessors moved to the US during the past 200 years. My fathers uncle, Josef Heft, moved to New York around 1900 and stayed there. His son Henry still lives in Syracuse, New York. We have around 281 telephone book registrations for Heft, which means, only 500-600 people in Germany carry the name. In other words, it's around number 18.800 on the list of Germany's most popular names :-) Most of the German Hefts live in the Eastern part of Germany in the area of Burgenland, followed by the southern part of Germany with the Rhein-Neckar area (Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Mannheim).
I'd love to hear from more of you Hefts out there :-) !!
Cheers, Matthias

Hi Leslie -

Thanks for responding. David passing away in 1845 is an assumption due to him disappearing from census records in 1850. In 1850 his Wife Sarah and children Samuel, Mary, Emanuel, Peter, Joshua and Sarah Jane are listed living in Champaign County Ohio but no sign of David. And then in the 1960 Census Sarah has remarried to a John Wilson.

I do have him being born in Bucks County PA 02 Mar 1801, on 07 Feb 1826 he married Sarah (Sally) Smith Fairfield County Ohio. David and Sarah seven children six listed above pus another son Ezra.

Thank You for the Headstone pictures.

Greg

I am trying to locate anyone researching the Heft family who resided over the years in Logan and Macon counties.

I rescued off of Ebay a collection of family photographs for Samuel Heft (born 1828/1829 in Ohio) & his wife, Elizabeth Davis Heft (born around 1830) and their descendants. They seem to follow their son, John Alvin Heft & his wife, Sarah M. Donnan.

If anyone is a descendant of this family, please contact me at genealogy@englishlass.com.

Micah,
I'm not sure if this will help, but when I was researching my family in Dixon, IL I came across a Valentine Heft who was a professor in music at a university in Iowa. His nephew Valentine was my great grandfather and moved from Dixon to Versailles OH.
I hope that helps.

I've got your Maragret in my records. She was baptized April 19, 1795 at Trinity Union Church, Springfield Township, Bucks County, PA. Below is her info. I have found that there is surprisingly little done on this Heft family from Haycock Township, Bucks County, PA. My ancestor (ggggg-grandfather) was Wilhelm Heft, Peter's brother. I would be quite interested in sharing information. Also, I still live in the geographic area, and thus can do on-site research if needed.

Johann Philip Heft (abt. 1692 - ?)Germany
m. Anna Judith ?
I am interested in a Jacob Heft born July 6, 1803 in Bedminster, Bucks County, PA...

I have traced my own Heft family to Joseph Mann Heft, born 1838 in Haycock Township, Bucks County, PA. According to census records, there was a Joseph Heft born abt. 1838 in Haycock Township to a Jacob (abt. 1803) and Anna (abt. 1810) Heft. (Year: 1850; Census Place: Haycock, Bucks, Pennsylvania; Roll: M432_759; Page: 206; Image: 413.) I am wondering whether anyone has information about Jacob's children. I have been stuck at Joseph for quite some time now. Being from Northampton County, PA myself, even possible cemetery locations for this family might be useful. Any information you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.

Heft's in Dixon, IL

I am seeking any information of the Heft family from Dixon, IL. My g-grandfather was Valentine Heft son of John and Emelia (Reimer) Heft. Valentine moved to Versailles, OH in the around 1910-1920, but the rest of the family remained in IL. Anyone with information or seeking information about the Heft's please respond or check out my tree, "Miller, Heft" on Ancestry.

Samuel is my g,g,g Grandfather. I have been able to trace him and most of his siblings. but I am unable to determine for sure who his parents were.

What I have found so far is that his father was named David and passed away around 1845. His mother Sarah (Sally) Smith born about 1807 and remarried after Davids death to a John Wilson.

Any information anyone could pass along would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I have on Samuels siblings.

Ezra Heft1830–1864
Mary Ellen Heft1832–1912
Emanuel Heft1833–1900
Peter Heft1836–1913
Joshua B Heft1842–
Sarah Jane Heft1845–

Thanks,

Greg
