Heheir Family

Dear Phillip, my name is Pat McDade and my grandmother was Annie Heheir who married John Joseph Lynch and lived in Nashville, Tennessee. One of my cousins forwarded your email to me. I am the only one in the family who has at least a limited understanding of the Heheir family in Tennessee. My great grandparents were James and Mary Connor Heheir who came to Nashville in the mid 1800's, I think. I do know that they were from County Galway Ireland because of the cemetary records and the info. that my Mom gave me. My great grandmother was quite a bit younger than her husband and lived a number of years after his death. They had 11 children with only 5 reaching adulthood. All of their children remained in Nashville and my grandmother was the only one of her generation who had children. The Heheir name ceased in Tennessee with that generation. My grandparents had five children and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc. If you want any further info. on the family here in Tennessee I will see what I can do to help. Take care, Pat
Hi My great great grandmother, Mary Jane was born in Quebec Canada in 1844 she married a British soilder Edmond Neill and came to Salford Lancashire England in 1878. Edmond died, and on the 2nd March 1883 Mary Jane married Thomas Heheir, son of Patrick Heheir. They had a son Joseph Heheir. Mary jane died in 1890, and Joseph went to live with Mary jane's children to her first husband. Joseph adopted the name; Joseph H Neill. He served in the first world war with the Lancashire Fusilers, in Egypt. I am looking for any information on Thomas, Patrick or Joseph. Hope this may help someone. Thanks.

Thanks for the additional information. Thanks to the details from the earlier Census you gave me I found a number of obituaries for P Heh(e)ir's family in the local paper (on-line edition) - all, alas, turned into Hehirs (with one "e"), and a tree for his wife which someone had posted.

Thank you again

Philip Heath

The Irish surname Heheir

I am researching all occurrences of the surname Heheir (an infrequent variant of [O']Hehir) in the hope of building on what little I know of the family connections of my great-grandmother Ellen Heheir of Stepney, London, the daughter of Martin Heheir, from County Limerick (son of Timothy Heheir), who (Martin) died in 1884 at the age of 66.

So far I have identified another family of Heheirs in St Marylebone, London, living in during the 19th century (John Heheir and family in Horace Street), another John Heheir and family in Kilmallock, County Limerick in 1871, and an extended family of Heheirs in Nashville deriving from James Heheir from Co. Galway, who died in 1883 at the age of 60. I have also located two solitary Heheirs: Michael Heheir, an immigrant to the USA (no further details yet), and Patrick Heheir, who appears in the 1900 New England census (MA).

I am posting this in order to trawl any random searches which may be made for the name in the future. Please get in touch if you know of any instances of the name.

Philip Heath, 24 April 2001
