My GGG Grandfather, Tobias Ambre Ohmer, was born in 1832 in Neupotz to Andres Ohmer and Eva Katharina Liebel. i have copy of "Neupotzer Heimat Buch" which chronicles the history of Neupotz. In the chapter entitled "Emigration," the book lists the names of several Heids who emigrated, one of which is listed as Johann Adam Heid:

1856: 24. 3. 1856:
1. Antoni Johann Adam III, Bauer, und seine Frau Settelmayer Franziska.
2. Heid Johann Adam, Taglöhner. 24. 9. 1856:
3. Heid Georg Wendel, ein Handwerker.

Another shows up as:

1841: 9. 3. 1841:
1. Heid Franz Philipp, * 1815, S. v. Georg Wendel. Lebte in Erie.
2. Heid Johann Adam, * 1818, S. v. Georg Adam.
3. Heid Johann Georg, * 1815, S. v. Adam.
4. Kirnberger, Simon, * 1818, S. v. Georg Jakob Kirnberger.

There are many more Heid individuals who are listed. Send me your email address and i can send you the text that i scanned from the book using OCR software. It's in German, and i also have a rough English translation that i got from a translation software program. The English translation is far from perfect, but it may be of some help to decipher the info.

Regards,
Joel A.

Your 2001 msg and James Shanahan's reply were most interesting. Clara is mentioned prominently in an article in American History magazine of August 2006. She is given credit for starting the dog-sled relay of diphteria serum to Nome in 1925. That story says she left Nenana in 1948 at age
65 (which does not agree with the age of Shanahan's Clara) and that nothing further is known of her.

(I am past president of the local chapter of Pioneers of Alaska.)

Jim Oehring
Fairbanks, Alaska

Heid Family from Baden, Scioto Co., Ohio, Iowa

I recently read all of the messages on this list & noticed one from Stefan Rmmler who lives in Germany, or at least did in 2001. I'm stuck with just entries on census records listing "Baden" as their country of origin & I need a city or something so I can learn which parish they lived in.

I'm wondering if Stefan still looks at this message board or if anyone else could help me zero in on the Charles & Catharine Harter Heid family. Catharine came in 1850, but I can't find Charles unless he had another first name that he used in Germany, but not in America. I haven't had any luck finding a marriage license, either. Their eldest son, also Charles, was b. in NJ in 1851. Joseph was b. in 1852, Mary 1854 & George 1858, all in Pennsylvania. Henry, my husband's g-grandfather, was b. in Scioto Co., Oh in 1859. Other children were: Margaret, 1864, Theresa in 1866, Sophia in 1868 & Louisa in 1871. More children were born later because as a widow, Catherine lived with single daughter Gracia in 1900, still in Clay twp.& in 1910, she lived in Portsmouth with daughter Theresa. It's possible that Gracia was a scribbled version of Teresa.

It's widely known that in order to search overseas, a person must research as far as possible in this country. I've found some "brick walls" that are holding me back.

If anyone has information about this branch of the Heid family, please let me know.
HEID family of Ohio, Illinois & Calhoun Co., Iowa

My husband's great-grandfather was Henry Heid, b. abt. 1859 in Ohio. His parents were Charles & Catharine Heid who were both born in Baden. In the 1880 census, the family is living in Clay Twp., Scioto Co., Ohio. By 1890, Henry has moved to Iroquois Co., Illinois, where he married Linna Lober from Germany. In the 1900 census, the couple is living in Cedar Twp., of Calhoun County, Iowa & have 5 children. By 1910, Linna has died & so has daughter Matilda but there are 2 more children b. abt. 1902 or 3 who appear to be twins. One of the twins, Laura, became my husband's grandmother. She married Carl Wiegert in 1920-1 & settled in Pocahontas County. My husband's mother Beulah was b. in 1922.

Does anyone have any information about Henry's siblings & where his parents came from in Baden & when they immigrated? Henry only had 1 brother & girls are harder to track after they marry.

Thank you.

Cyndy Thompson
We are not familiar with the Canadian Heids but I have been in contact with a lady from B.C. who is descended from Konstantin Heit and Katherine Leger. Her branch is descended from Konstantin and Katherines son, Johannes while we are from their other son, Konstantin Jr.She may be able to help you with Canadian Heidts (Heit or Heid..everyone spells the name differently!) If you wish, I will ask her permission to share her e-mail address with you.

Dear Sir,
I am sorry to tell you.....my grandfather Anton Heid was married to one Katherine Wingeter. My grandmother and grandfather were married to each other until my grandfathers death in 1966. The name you sent me is not familiar, although my grandfather DID have a sister named Rose, who lived a VERY long life in Montana and died at 104, I believe. Grandpa Heid had siblings, but I am unaware of their names. If this makes any sense, please let me know.

Lona Heins (Heid)
I'm searching for 2 lost great-uncles, Christian H. Heid and Theodore Heid. C.H. Heid is known to have worked as a bookkeeper for a railroad construction company in Colorado and New Mexico 1875-1885 and may have settled in New Mexico. A search of Ancestry.com's historical newspaper index shows the name Heid as appearing in the Deming Headlight for various dates from 1895 through 1921. Viewing images of the paper online however, I have been unable to spot the name. If anyone can give me further information on any Heids in Deming (city directories, other local records, etc.) I would be most grateful.

Hi all,
I just made a posting under Heit but wanted to connect again after putting it away for a few years. Dorna listed my direct line with Konstantin Heit. In Joseph Height's book Mannheim Heidt Kinship (family book) he stated that all his birth and marraiage records were lost during the French Revolution. This was written in 1966 so I'm trying to be positive in thinking with all the technology today that one of us WILL find something. I'll be contacting all past inquiries because of missing them over the years.
Angie
