Hey Jordyn.

I'm working on our family tree. There is a lot of info to search through, but it's getting there. So far, I have traced your Great Grandma Heier's family back to the late 1600's, Luxembourg. I just started this a week or so ago, so I'm not sure how all of this works.

Say hey to your dad for me.

Uncle John Heier

Yeah hi,

Wow there are Heier's in America, I thought it was a really rare name, no one at school could either pronounce it or spell it, turns out there are quite a few though. I don't know for sure about your family but my version of Heier traces back to Germany when a Czech man moved there. He married then took his wives name with him to England when he moved on to there. So he wasn't really a Heier at all. Many other real Heier's who were here changed their name because of its associations during the Second World War, my Grandfather tells me. Heier, sounding German wasn't a popular surname, even if as it turns out it ould be Norwegian as well.

I've been looking for the birthdate of Eline Heier. Her parents were Ole and Carrie Heier. Her father, Ole, fought in the 1814 War of Norway. She was one of 3 daughters. Eline married Hans Haga, and they farmed and lived at the Sogn Farm. They had my ggg-grandfather, Lars Sogn 1840-1902. Eline Heier Sogn died in 1870 somewhere in Iowa, and was buried in an unmarked grave. Her husband, Hans Haga-Sogn, lived from 1814-1900.
Can anyone supply any information on Eline Heier Sogn? She came to America in 1869 with her husband and her son and his wife.
-Jack

Re: Heier's from Poland

The person that did this research shows Henry Heier born Aug 20 1857, married to Anna Nachtigal born Apr 29 1859. Married Nov 12 1873. Seven children Albertina Dec 9 1880, Frank March 2 1883, Anna June 6 1885, Amalia Jan 18 1889, Andrew Feb 11 1891, Henry Aug 20 1893, Wilhelm Jan 16 1896. His records do show Frank being married to Bertha Hodel. His records also show a Karl Heier Jan 24 1812 married to a Susanna Wedel Jan 19 1828 married May 5 1853. Karl & Susanna had 4 children Wilhemine Nov 27 1854, Henry Aug 20 1857, Susanna Dec 25 1859, Frank Sept 4 1864. Then it goes back to the Karl Heier that married Maria Schmidt and their one child named Karl Jan 24 1812.I remember my father telling us we were related to the Hodels and the ones we are related to had a restarant in Bakersfield Ca.Also I just last night talked with my dad on the phone and he confirmed all the names of Andrews brothers and sisters and said he thought there might be another brother but he couldnt remember the name. I also remember that there was some sort of fall-out between the brothers and sisters due to religious beliefs or something like that. Grandpa (Andrew) was very active in the Meninoite church in Bakersfield. Any how all my information came from a person named Kell Schmidt@aol.com. I tried to e-mail him but he apparently only recieves messages from people he knows. All his info is posted on Ancestry.com
Thank you for your reply. My records do not show a brother named Andrew for Frank. I have sisters of Albertine, Anna, Amaile,. His brothers are Heinrich, Henry & Wilhelm. Do your records show Frank being married to Bertha Hodel?

My records show that Karl Heier was married to Maria Schmidt, but he is shown to have been born in 1872 in Poland, not Holland. Maria is shown to be from Poland, born around 1787.

What are your thoughts?

Hi the info i got from another source shows frank was born 2 march 1883. if your records show him having a brother Andrew born 11 Feb.1891 then we are related. the only difference is that the person that got the info that i have shows them being born in Wymyschle Poland. but the name of the place could have been changed because of the wars and different countries occuping that area.also my source went as far back to a Karl born sometime 1770 in Holland somewhere and married a Maria Schmidt.

I believe that the William Meister listed as a pallbearer in the obituary may be either my grandmother's brother, William Meister(abt 1880 ?) or his father, my Great Grandfather, Wilhelm Meister born, Wurz, Germany Died, Scranton, Pa.
Pittston Ave Cemetery is maintained by Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, Scranton, Pa. at the time the meisters attended church services were held in German. The Meister family lived near the right rear door of the church(now a parking lot about 6 feet higher than the sidewalk. Hickory Street has records of that period. None on line that I know about. There are some partial listings of Pittston Ave Cemetery on Roots Web at www.rootsweb.com/~palackaw/cemetery_addresses.html
I have more information on Meister,Bellersheim,Evans,Leyh.
I think I was in touch with you a couple of years ago, My relatives also came from the same area as yours. At the time I am not sure whether germany or france had the Allsayce area. It is listed as both in my paperwork. It is listed thusly pfetterhausen (fetterhouse) , Elsass, France (Germany). I have also been in touch with a man called Clarance Heier. His folks left Germany for Russia in 1805 according to him. Does that ring a bell with you? He is from the christian Heier side. From what he wrote me it may be possible that we are related because not all the heier family moved to russia and he has little info on the the family members that were left behind in pfetterhause. Please do get in touch with me. This could be very interesting.
Warmest Reguards,
Judie
