I went of Mayville State College in North Dakota. OrvinFingarson was a music major there and graduated in 1963. He taught music in Warroad, Minn. He was from Edinburg< North Dakota and had one sibling, a sister. I am sure this is the same person, because I know he died of M.S.

Anita

I am not sure if you are related to me- I posted a message once and had the wrong name. My dads name was Dennis Tommila -my moms name is Shirlee. His dads name was Wilho and his moms name was Josie-He had a sister named Barb(Loren Banninger)-Wesley(Janice)-Ronald(Shirley)-Lee(Lola)-Larry(Deanna)-Lily and one more brother(Richard?) My dad Dennis died in 1977-Wesley died in 2001-Deanna died in 1998 and Barb died in 2002 and Josie died in 2000(Maine) Wilho died in 1966/ if any of these people are familiar to you, then there is a chance we could be related. Please let me know and I will let you know as much as i can.
For Sandy Hecla,
Sandy, Your husband and I are cousins! (Probably second or third.) The William Heublein you were asking about on the message board is my uncle. He and my father were brothers and I spent lots of time with Uncle Bill when I was a youngster. He wasn't born in Germany, but his grandfather was. Uncle Bill was born in Washington, the youngest of four boys and two girls, as were his three older brothers. He had two sisters who were born in Illinois before the parents (Charles and Alice) homesteaded in Washington state. I recently spent several days in Colville, Washington researching the Heublein family and I have LOTS of information to share with you or anyone else out there in the Heublein/Hecla families. I last saw Elsie and Orville Hecla at their home in Spokane, Washington in 1965.

Hi!
All HEIKKILA family names come from Finland. We write the A with two dots. I happen to have Heikkiläs among my maternal and paternal ancestors. William Kaino Heikkilä (b. 1906 Veteli, Finland, d. 1960 San Francisco) and I have common Finnish roots.
yours
Mr. Tapani Tunkkari
Finland

RE: Heikkila research

Although I have no specific information on your Grandmother, I wanted to offer some places to help in your research if you have not already happened upon them.
"Finnish-American Society of the West" has several web links and publications about Finns in CA and Washington for you. The "Swedish-Finnish Historical Society",Seattle,Wash. Also the "Immmigration History Research center", at the Univ of Minnesota, has huge resources listed there.
Heikkila is a surname derived from the name Henry(Henrik)-Heikki - the 'la' ending refers to the person being "of/or from the land of Heikki" . I am guessing but I believe the Heikintytar name is 'Heikki's daughters daughter'.(granddaughter)Tytar is a word for daughter. Scores of Heikkila families came from the Oulu,Finland area and also scores of single young Finnish women came to the US through NY, Boston and Canada, so tracing immigration will be tough but possible.

Good Luck

Sherry,

I think I may have found something for you. It's the 1920 census showing a Vilho Tommila, 8 years old whose father is Kristian with a bunch of siblings. Can't quite make out his mom's name. Anyway, I have a hunch this is your guy.

You see Wilho is pronounced Vilho in Finnish. 'W' is always pronounced like 'V'

Hope this helps.

-Jan

Hi Sherry,

I found some info for you.

Minnesota Death Index, 1908-2002
about Wilho A. Tommila
Name: Wilho A. Tommila
Birth Date: 14 Feb 1912
Death Date: 21 Apr 1966
Death County: Carlton
State File Number: 008331
Certificate Number: 008331
Certificate Year: 1966
Record Number: 1635514

The father of Wesley Tommila in your tree is Wilho A. Tommila. He should not be confused with my still living father Wilho Isak Tommila. His middle name is the same as his father's first. My dad was born in Massachusetts and has lived in the Washington, DC area most of his adult life. I know for certain that he's never lived in Minnesota.

If you want your tree to be accurate, you really should remove parents Isak and Alma and all the siblings you have listed for Wilho A. Unfortunately, none of them are related to him. Also, sibling Allen is a typo from the 1930s census. It really was my aunt Ellen.

My grandparents Isak & Alma are buried in Fitchburg, MA as are my Aunts Ellen & Elvi and Uncle Toivo. My Aunt Helen is still living in California.

If I run across more info about your Wilho A., I'll be sure to pass it on.

Regards,

Jan

Hello Sherry,

My father, who is still living, is Wilho I. Tommila born in 1922 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. His father was Isak Tommila and his mom was Alma Jarvenpaa. I knew my grandparents. They each came over from Finland and arrived at Ellis Island in the early 1900s. My grandparents had five children -- Ellen, Toivo, Elvi, Wilho (my dad) and Helen.

There was another Wilho Tommila who seems to be from your family who lived in the midwest and died in 1966.

I wish I could help you more. Although I can trace my mother's family back hundreds of years, I simply can't get any farther back on my Finnish side than John Tommila, who was my grandpa's father back in Finland. This bit I found on Isak's passenger listing.

- Jan

I dont know from where in Germany this family came from. Thanks Sandy Hecla at: SandyHecla@hotmail.com

Hi Alysa, Unfrotunately I don't have much info on the Hueblien name other than my husbands mother's family. His mother was Elsie Lenora Hueblien, she married Orville Thomas Hecla (Heikkila in Finnish). Her parents were: William and Ethnia (Edna) Meddock-Hueblein. Their other children: Myrtly Sherrill, and Alice. I dont think there were any sons. These children were all born in Spokane, Wa and parent in Germany its believed. The came to Spokane, Wa, from Sandpoint, Bonner Co, Idaho. We do know that the Meddock family were from Wisconsin. As Ethnia's parents are Clarion Meddock of Wisconsin and Myrthia Sherrill. As to wether they were born there or just immagrated to Wisconsin from Germany is unknown. I do have the children of Elsie's sister Myrtle Sherrill and her husband Ray Elixman, James (jim), and Richard (Dick) Elixman. This is all the info I've been able to find out on the Heublein family. Hope this helps. Thanks Sandy at: SandyHecla@hotmail.com
