NYC Heilmann -- Jacob Peter & Eva Elisabeth

Surnames: Heilmann, Heilman
Would love any advise. Have hit a deadend. Trying to get back to Germany. Jacob Peter Heilmann (b.1838), Eva Elisabetha (Kremer) Heilmann (b.1830), and one child Jacob August (b.1863) immigrated from Bavaria (Erlangen is family legend) in 1865 to NYC. I can find no ship manifest for the threesome. They can be found in the 1870 and 1880 NY census and the city directory until 1886. Jacob and Eva vanish, maybe to New Jersey. I have checked NYC and NY State death records. Son, Jacob August marries Agnes Vandermerwede and has 6 children, there history is well known. All records say "Germany" or 'Bavaria". Any one come across this family??
