Mary (Parsons) Heller, born abt 1867, lived Outagamie Co., WI

I have a postcard photograph of “Mary Parsons Heller, Christine Parsons Nash; and Saida (Sarah) Parsons Becker – she married Oscar Becker – they were sisters of Henry Parsons”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1905, and each of the sisters appears to be in their 30s.

I found a Parsons family in the 1870 census for Dale (Outagamie Co.) WI, showing parents Fred (39) and Albertine (32), with Anna (5), Elizabeth (4), Mary (3), and son Charles (1). I received direct information that at least two of the sisters Mary, Christine and Sarah were teachers, and that two of their brothers worked for Walgreens in Appleton, WI.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Mary Parsons Heller.

George & Isabella WARREN HELLER Family

Hello Fellow Listers:

I've just found some descrepancies on Ancestry.com with the genealogy that has been posted for the George and Isabella WARREN HELLER Family. Please understand that I am not criticizing or critiquing this posted research - I am very glad for it and appreciate the time and effort on my fellow researchers' part... and wish to THANK all those who do post their findings and research!

The problem appears to arrise with the two sons, Edwin A. (Augustus) (b.1825-1830) and Edward A.(Augustus?) (b.1841-1843). I believe there are some researchers who have the two sons' information/marriages switched. My first "red flag" was when I found Edward (b.1841) still living with his parents in Brady Twp., Huntingdon Co. and single during the 1860 Census - when some fellow-researchers have him married in 1857 to a Susanna SHULTZ. At this same time - on the same census - his brother, Edwin (who was found as Augusta) was living in Catharine Twp., Blair Co., PA. and married to a Susan (probably Susanne Shultz?).

The following info from census records:
1850 Catharine Twp., Blair Co., PA. - 8-Aug-1850
(written along the side of the census sheet - "Furnace")
HELLER George 52 laborer
" Isabella 48
" Edwin A. 20 laborer
" Thoms. 17
" Lovina 15
" Rachel 13 attended school within year
" Edward U. 7 " "
" John A. 5
" Mary M. 6/12

1860 Brady Twp., Huntingdon Co., PA. - PO: Mt. Union - 24-Jul-1860
HELLAR George 63 laborer PE$.50
" Isabella 52
" Edward 19 laborer
" John 17 laborer
" Mary M. 10 attended school within year
" Lucetta I. 9 " "

1860 Catharine Twp., Blair Co., PA. - PO: Bellow Springs - 19-Jul-1860
HELLER Augusta 35 furnace keeper PE$.50
" Susan 30
" George 8
" Thomas 6
" William 1

Is anyone else working on this HELLER family? I am hoping that someone else can confirm or disprove my thoughts on this family... please understand that I am always open to suggestions and corrections.

Thanks in advance.
Donna Heller Zinn of Newville, Cumberland Co., PA.
djzinn@pa.net

I am not going to include much info in this thread so as not to sway anyone's opinion. I am attaching a wedding picture that seems to be from the early 1920's or so. The surnames could include Parfitt, Heller, McInroy, Woodhouse. We have an idea who this maybe but there is some opinion differences among family members. The area would probably have been around NY or Penn. Anyone who recognizes anyone in the picture please let me know. Thanks

HELLER family in Lebanon Co., PA in Civil War

Today I found this in a history book:
******************
Page 115
Lebanon County, Chapter XIV, The War for the Union -- the Services of the Lebanon County in That Civil Conflict.
FORTY EIGHTH REGIMENT, EMERGENCY TROOPS OF 1863.
Mustered in July 2-8, 1863; discharged August 26, 1863.
The invasion of Pennsylvania in the summer of 1863 with the cause of the call by Gov. Curtin Emergency troops, in obedience to which the following regiment was organized. The battle of Gettysburg resulting disastrously to the Confederate farms, the militia were no longer required in the Cumberland Valley. At this period serious apprehensions of trouble in the mining regions necessitated a delay in the mustering out of emergency troops. The Forty-eighth Regiment were sent to Scranton, where they remained until the latter part of August, when they were mustered out of service.
Co. C., Captain, William S. Flory.
Listed among the privates we find: Septemius Heller, Emanuel Heller and Thomas Heller
*****************************
Source: History of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, by Henry Egle, 1883
***************************
Does anyone know who these three Heller's were?

John E. HELLER, (1834-1866) Dauphin Co., PA

I am a HELLER family descendant.
My family was from the HELLER's who at one time lived in Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania.
Recently I found this biography in a history book:
*************
"John E. Heller was born in 1834, in Rush Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. His early education was more or less limited, for at the age of 13 we find him an apprentice to the art of printing in the office of the American, at Sunbury, Pennsylvania, where he remained until he was 20 years of age. Afterwards, for several years, he was foreman in the office of the Miner's Journal, Pottsville. He then began the study of law, and was admitted to the Dauphin County for August 30, 1865, and began the practice of his profession at Harrisburg. His life of labor was comparatively brief, however, for he died rather suddenly of the residents of his father, in Rush Township, January 30, 1866, aged 32 years. His remains were interred in the Rush Church graveyard. "Mr. Heller," wrote the editor of the Sunbury American, who knew him well, "was a young man of exemplary conduct and good character, and with industry and good business habits he had a bright future before him.""
***********
Source: History of Dauphin Co., PA by William Egle, 1883, p.503
*************
I am unable to place this person in my database, and wonder if anyone knows who his parents were.

I'm doing research on my wife's side of the family. Her great-grandfather was Peter Heller, born 1838 in Baden, Germany. Peter and his brother August (born 184_?) came to the USA in 1860's. They first settled in Wisconsin where they cut wood for a living. They then went to central Iowa and purchased farm land in Warren County, Iowa. Closest town was Milo, IA.

According to the 1880 US Federal Census (LDS) Peter was born 1838 in Baden, Germany. He married Mary Turk (Tirk??), born 1849 in Hasen, Germany. They had six children, Frank (1871), August(1874), John(1876), Fred(1878), Joseph(1880), and Leo(1884). Frank is my wife's grandfather.

Any help would be appreciated.

He married first, Jennie Grace WEAVER (my great-grandmother) and later married Maud E GEAR. At age 57 in the 1930 census he was living in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. My father remembers him from the mid-1930's when dad was a young child but does not remember when/where he died. Would like to find his parents, siblings (if he had any) and proof of his birth, marriage and death.

Descendants of Johann Christopher Heller

I thought the descendants of Johann Christopher Heller, who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1738 from Pfeddersheim might like to know that a direct male line descendant has gotten back his results from a 43 marker Y-DNA test. He is in haplogroup R1b, which is the most common European haplogroup and is consistent with a Swiss Celtic origin - Johann Christopher's direct male ancestor, Conrad Heller, was born about 1615 in Wil bei Rafz, near Zurich, Switzerland. If you want to see the results, his userID is TMK27 at www.ysearch.org. If any other male line descendants are interested in getting tested and see if you match, I urge you to do so and then post the results in the public databases

Unidentified Photos

I was recently given a box of old photos that have been in my family for several generations. There are 2 families I believe these photos could belong to, either HELLER or HUBEL. The HELLER's I descend from settled in Mid Michigan from Indiana, my gr-grandmother was Viva HELLER HUBEL b. Indiana, her father was Stephen HELLER, b. Indiana. My HUBEL line descends from Nehimiah HUBEL (Canada to USA). If you believe you can assist me in identifying these people, please contact me directly, LRomubi1@san.rr.com.

At the end of WW2 Josee was in Europe In March1945 Her address was Route de Beggen No.90, Beggen. Luxembourg. She then went to Switzerland for some months but had returned to Luxembourg by May 1946. I beleive that Josee was employed in some administrative war work in some way and may have even been employed by the US forces. She may have been born or lived in the United States prior to living in Europe during WW2. If Josee is still alive she would be in her eighties. If you have any information about Josee Please contact me by email.

Heller/Shane Marriage, Brooklyn NY, before 1887

OK, to start, I think my wife's family was dropped on Earth from a bleedin' spaceship. Seriously.

OK, with that out of the way, Joseph HELLER married Caroline Shane before 1887, since their first son, Arthur, was born 2 NOV 1887. I am looking for Shane info, but more so, I am looking for HELLER info.
Word on the street, well in the house, says the Hellers in my wife's family were related to the ones who made Heller Candies in Germany. After contacting them and explaining my wife's Jewish background, they said, "No, wrong Hellers. This company was never owned by people of the Jewish faith." That was 2 or 3 yeas ago.
Well, about 3 months ago, my wife's mom gave us the revelation that "only 1/2 the family might be Jewish." WHICH 1/2!? (rhetorical)
Does anyone here have any connection to Heller candies, Brooklyn, NY, Canton Weiner Film Productions, the above people or were her ancestors aliens? (rhetorical about the aliens...unless they were...)

children of Caroline Shane and Joseph Heller were: Arthur, Sam, Ralph, Frances, Phil and a "baby girl". I am assuming she died shortly after birth.
PLEASE contact me at scott @ designsatwork. com (remove "spam avoiding" spaces in email address)
Thanks,
Scott

Pensylvania Hellers 1700/1800's

Can you help me identify any of the following individuals ???

Altoona Tribune, 1930
Altoona, Blair Co., PA

LOCAL MAN OWNS VALUABLE VIOLIN
Instrument Engraved With Names of Owners Dating from 1720 to 1930. When a violin is 210 years old, it may be said to have reached a hale and hearty old age. A violin owned by James L. Gilliland, 204 Second avenue, Altoona, is at least that old-if not older. On the back of the instrument are engraved names of every owner of the violin from 1720 to 1930. The instrument was manufactured, undoubtedly, by hand, by F. R. Schmucker. Although there is no date of manufacture on the engraving which gives the manufacturer's name. Carved on the back by the penknife of some long-dead musicians are the following names and initials: "Charles Boring, 1720" "W. C. Heller, 1760," "J. W., 1820," "Frank Boring, 1877," "Frank Vaughn, 1881," and "J. G. Gilliland, 1896."
Mr. Gilliland doesn't pretend to know the real age of the violin. There may have been a lapse of 100 or more years between the manufacture of the instrument and the engraving of the first owner's name. But the present owner claims that the tone of the violin is superb

Heller from Germany to Rhode Island

Need help finding family of Christine Heller born abt. 1835 in Germany. She died 17 Mar 1908 in Rhode Island. She married Richard Chadwick of England and they raised a family in Providence, Rhode Island. Their children were: Clara born 1862, Mary Ann born 1864, Christine born 1866, Elizabeth born 1875, Josephine born 1876 and Lydia born 1879/80. In the 1880 census she had a nephew living with them by the name of John Harks, both parents born in Germany, he was born in New York. Richard emigrated in 1858 and I don't know if they married there or in the USA. Does anyone have a Christine in their family who is unaccounted for?
