My G Grandfather, William Starling Hellums, married my G Grandmother Mary Jane Spradling May 5, 1870. We know nothing about his family. Families often repeat their first names and their children were: Penelope Pairlea, Joseph (Uery)Uriah, Thomas Daniel, Martha Jane, and Harvey Lee Hellums. If any of these names seem familiar to you, please be in touch. I really want to know about this branch of the family. I have been researching the family tree for my children and grandchilren. Thomas Daniel was my grandfather.

Emma Hellums m. John Mow in Indiana in 1860s

I'm stuck on the ancestry of Emma Hellums, the mother of my great grandfather John Samuel Mow. Her husband John was born in Ohio in 1816. He was previously married to an Eliza or Elizabeth. Emma Hellums was born in 1840s. Emmas died on 1 Jan 1873 in Marysville (Potomac) Vermilion co., Illinois, John died two weeks later. According to her granddaugher, Emma Hellums was crippled, the daugher of a doctor of Kokomo or Wabash, Indiana. I have never seen the name written, and it may well be Helms.

Mary Hellum (Hellman??) lived 1896 June 2 to 1899 June 9 and died in Rice Lake, Barroun County, WI. Perhaps Norwegian roots, she was married to John Nordenfoss, who came from Sweden to Rice Lake. After the death of Mary he married Olga Solberg, from Norway.Any information is welcomed.

Has anyone ran across a Millerd D. and Francis Hellums(Helms) approx. 1850-1930's in that area? I'm stumped. They had Bernice? Vinnie Jewel, Ull Edward, Dulah and several other children. George Raymond Hellums

Hi Brenda, George Raymond Hellums owned three sawmills in Iuka, Belmont and Corinth areas in Mississippi. In the late 1800/early 1900s. Back then, when the work ran out at a location, they just moved the sawmill, so the exact towns may change. Sometimes, the sawmills might move into Franklin County, Alabama for a few months then back.
George Raymond Hellums had 19 children to live by two wives. The first wife was Allene Tennyson. The second wife was Lula Leatherwood. Rumour not yet proven: It was either George Raymond Hellums grandfather or great-grandfather who came from Ireland with his two brothers and a sister on the same boat (names are unknown). The sister died on the trip and was buried at sea. The brothers settled in Tishimingo County MS, Lee County, MS, and somewhere near Houlka, MS. One of them had to file for bankruptcy and changed his last name to Helms.
