Lester Hayden Helmick, 92, of Seventh Street, Waverly, Ohio, died at 11:05 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Traditions at Bristol Village, Waverly, OH.
He was born November 14, 1916 in Hackers Valley, WV the son of the Late Sylvester and Willa Ann (Pugh) Helmick. On September 12, 1950 Lester was united in marriage to Willa Pauline (Malcomb) Helmick who preceded him in death on February 25, 2008.
Surviving are two sons, Walter Robert Kelley and wife Joy of Sunbury, Oh and David Helmick of Waverly, OH; one daughter, Helen Sassi and husband Henry of Vienna, WV; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren ; and 5 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents and wife, his two sisters, Violet Casto and Beatrice Isner; two brothers, Garcia and Raymond; three infant children; and two daughters-in-law preceded him in death.
Lester was a member of the Waverly First Baptist Church and attended Dailyville Freewill Baptist Church, retired 1982 as an electrician for Goodyear Atomic Corporation, a WW II Navy Veteran having survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor, life Member of American Legion Merritt Post #142, Waverly, OH, a member of V.F.W. Post #3665, Buchanan, WV and a graduate of Pickens High School, Pickens WV.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, OH with Pastor Peter Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Union Cemetery, Denver Road, Waverly, OH.
Friends may call at Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly from 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday.
