Hiram Helms of Coffee Co., AL

Searching for info on Hiram Helms. He was age 36, b. NC on the 1860 Coffee Co., AL Census. He was the son of John W. Helms and wife Rebecca, (probably Ross) (1850 Census). His children by a first wife were Melton Augustus Helms, Sarah A.E. Helms, Martha M. Helms and Selitha Helms. Widower Hiram Helms and his children lived with Hiram's parents until he remarried. Who was the mother of Hiram's children?

After the death of his first wife Hiram Helms married Mrs. Mary A. Hollaway, a widow with three children. I can't find Hiram on a census after the 1860 census. His brother, Coleman named a son Hiram (age 12 in 1860) in his honor. Did Hiram die? Move away from Coffee Co.? What happened to him? Can anyone help?

Melton Augustus Helms married Nancy Jane Brooks, parents of Ada Helms, my great grandmother, who married Melvin Bedsole, their daughter Lois Bedsole married Storie Sansom, all of Coffee or Covington Co., AL.

Can anyone relate to this family? Again, who was the mother of Melton A. Helms?

Wilhelm & wife Sophie(Fellersman)Helms immigrated from Hamburg, Ger 1882 to NYC, went by train from there to Palmer, KS. His sisters, Doris Eggerglaus & Marie (Meka)also immigrated. Doris & husband also Wilhelm settled near Washington, KS, changed their name to Eggers. Meka lived with Wilhelm & Sophie who settled near Linn, KS & are buried in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. I dont believe Meka ever married. They had a sister that stayed in Germany. We would like information about the family members that remained in GER. Wilhelm's full name was Peter Heinrich Wilhelm Helms b:28 Oct 1854 Hermansburg, Hanover Province, Germany Sophie and a brother & sister but we dont know if they immigrated to America. Her brother was a carpenter & built houses. Sophie's full name: Catherine Sophia Marie Fellersman b: 12 Dec 1856 Germany

A Nacy Helms is indicated in the photograph as being one of the young ladies dressed up for the day. I am trying to find information on my GGG-Grandfather Joseph HELMS. He was born approx. 1816 (not sure where). I know that he married Elizabeth McKIERNAN (dau. of Patrick & Elizabeth McKIERNAN) in Co. Cavan Ireland around 1839/40.

Joseph & Elizabeth had a son Matthew (my GG-Grandfather) prior to emigrating to Australia in Nov 1841, where they had several more children. Joseph died 1893 and Elizabeth in 1895.

I would appreciate any information/help on this matter.

BRITTON — Michael A. Helms, age 46, of Britton died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at Herrick Medical Center in Tecumseh.
He was born June 28, 1961, in Tecumseh to Dwight G. and Claire J. (Pulver) Helms. Michael was a 1979 graduate of Tecumseh High School. He married Carol Butler on June 25, 1982, in Tecumseh and she survives. Michael was employed by Infra Source Underground. He was the President of the Lenawee County Renters Association and he loved riding his motorcycle, woodworking and helping others.
In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his mother, Claire of Tecumseh; two daughters, Macy Helms of Tecumseh and Allie Helms at home; a granddaughter, MaKena Harrison; two sisters, Michelle and Robert (Helms) Robison of Adrian, Monica and Scott (Helms) Wilcox of Tipton; one step-sister, Angie Wilson-Lama of Tecumseh; his in-laws, Jerry and Linda Butler of Tecumseh; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
Funeral services for Michael will be held on Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 1448 Short St., Tecumseh (517) 424-1848, with Rodger Warren officiating. Cremation will follow the service and burial of cremains will be in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh at a later date.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 1448 Short St., Tecumseh.

Looking for any info on a Edna or Emma M. Helms, unknown where she was born or when. I do know that Edna or Emma M. Helms married a Andrew Harbert and they raised their children in Nebraska. Their children are: Vivian Harbert who married a Lawrence Obert, Mamie Harbert (born in 1897) and she married a John Morris, Luella S. Harbert (born in 1899) and she married a George Starr and then a Samuel M. Simons, Ruth Harbert (born in 1900), Edgar Harbert who married a Muriel Wells, John Harbert who marrid a Mary Williams, Grace Harbert, Leona Harbert who married a man named Caster, and Edna Harbert. Joel Helms - NC - Detached Militia, War of 1812

In a 1975 manuscript, Sara Myers asserted, "It is on record that Joel Helms [b. 1793, son of John Whitehead Helms] served in the War of 1812 in the detached Militia from Anson County, North Carolina, under Captain Benjamin A. Lanier, 22 Feb to 4 May 1815...." This statement was not included in the book "Helms Descendants 1720-1991" that Myers co-authored with Gerald Helms and William Helms, and she did not list a source for her 1975 statement.

I've just started looking; but so far, I haven't found any muster rolls that include Joel Helms.

I do find a "Joel Helmer" in the 2nd Regiment from Mecklenburg County NC but under Cpt. David Moore, and I find Capt Benjamin Lanier listed with the "Troops at Wadesboro," but with only a listing of the officers. I do not find Joel Helm/Helmer/Helms/etc. in the Index to War of 1812 pension files.

ANY information about either Anson or Mecklenburg regiments and/or Joel's participation in the war would be most welcome.

ANY suggestions for where I can search more productively would also be tremendously helpful!

Seeking information on the descendants and background of George W. HELMS, age 66, b. NC (both parents b. NC), who heads a household on p. 510A of the 1880 census of the Nances Dist, Muscogee Co, GA. His wife Louisa J.(1816-1880) is buried in Clapp's Cemetery in (now Columbus) Muscogee Co, GA. Their children include(all b. GA): Sarah (b. ca. 1841), Ellen (b. ca. 1849), George (b. ca. 1851), and Nancy (b. ca. 1859). Also present are two GARDNER men from Rhoda Island and three HIGHTOWER men, all laborers at the cotton mill where George W. worked (evidently Clapp's Factory), as well as a black domestic named JENKINS. There is an effort under way to restore Clapp's Cemetery and mark the graves there. Any information on this family and their kin would be appreciated, and I'll be glad to share further details. Mary H. Helms 90, McCordsville, died, December 9, 2004. A Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and friend to all who knew her, Mary Helms blessed many lives during her 90 years of serving the Lord. She was born Oct. 19, 19 14 in Lewis County, KY to the late Andrew and Elizabeth Stephens. She was a homemaker who helped her husband farm. She was known for many attributes among her friends and family, but mostly she loved children. The Helms farm became a very special place for all who visited and it was because of Mary and her open arms that greeted you when you arrived. She always had a warm meal prepared and of course, pies and cakes followed. At Mary's house, all were family. She is survived by son Ray L. (Lydia) Helms; twin daughters: Carolyn (Jim) Spangler and Marilyn Owens; brother Homer Stephens, sisters: Ruby Docker, Donna Oler and Opal Lewman; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Helms in Feb. 1997, brothers George Masters, Bill Masters and Otto Stephens and sister Bertha LaFountaine. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 13 at 10:00 am at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. Friends may call on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 2 to 8 pm at the funeral home. He was a Purdue graduate (ME ‘48, MS ‘50), a Navy V-12 vet, a 30 year member of the John Purdue Club and life member of the Purdue Alumni Association. He was a school board president, Indian Guides leader, baseball coach, Optimist member, church leader and ASME member. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orrie and Addie; and brothers, John and Herb (Peg) Helms. I am looking for information regarding my grandfather, Earl Helms. He was a farmer in Tuckerman/Newport, Arkansas. He passed away in 1976.

I remember them saying that you could always tell a Helms by their beautiful brown eyes - funny because my grandfather had twinkling blue eyes. He was born in the early 1900's. Some of his siblings were Ike and Nellie (passed away last year - she was the last surviving sibling.)

My grandfather married Chloe Powell and they had 7 children. Alfred, Boyce, Henry, Tommy Lee, Gene, Marisue and Joyce.

Please help me. I am trying to find anyone with any information on a Henry C. Helms. He was born June 28,1848 in Mecklenburg, Hamburg,Prussia. He died in Sept 20,1924 do not know where. He was married twice. Do not know any thing else.Thank you for yur time.

Marsh Helms was 23 aat the time of this marriage, born in Franklin Co (Illinois?) making him born ca 1871; his parents were J. H. Helms and Malissa Sanders. This was his second marriage and the first for Kate Viola Hurley, 21, born March 1880 in Nebraska to Henry Hurley and Catherine (Kate) Wells. Henry Hurley was born 1834 in Wayne Co New York. Catherine Wells came to US ca 1854, she was born in Darmstadt Germany.

I have some Helms history, and now I am trying to find some details on Israel Helms,who married Sarah Kaizer. They had a son named Tillman Helms,Sr., who was born in North Carolina in 1716 or 1722. So, Israel had to be born around 1690. I believe they all lived in North Carolina, or they may have emigrated to America around 1715.
