We have finally located more info about our gggrandparents, they arrived in the USA on June 5, 1855 through the Port of New Orleans, on board the ship Auguste which originated in Bremen, Germany. We believe that both were from Prussia. They settled shortly thereafter in Lewis County, Missouri. He served with Company K of the 21st Missouri Volunteer Infantry (Union Army).
They had at least three and possibly four children: Ernest, Lizzie, Julius Theodore & Charles Robert. JT & Charlie lived to adulthood, no idea what happened to Ernest or Lizzie. JT was my gggrandfather.
Looking for: any connections and any additional info about these ancestors. Many thanks! Katie

I am looking for any information on the above acting family. They were vaudeville actors at the turn of the last century. Does anybody have information on Walter Hemming aka Witty Watty Walton!
Alfred Hemming (his father) died in New York some time in the 1940's. Can anybody tell me how I go about getting his death certificate? Who do I contact.

I look forward to hearing from you.

John C. Hemming, Charles Hemming, Confederate Florida

Does anyone have a link to Colonel John C. Hemming of Jacksonville, Florida, who fought the Seminoles and then hid the yacht "America" from Union troops on the St. Johns River? His son was Charles Hemming, who escaped from a Northern prison using a fake wooden pistol. Hemming Plaza in downtown Jacksonville, where the confederate soldiers' monument stands, was named for this family. I would like to learn more about these men. I am constructing a website based on the lives of the Florida Confederate Soldiers buried at Old City Cemetery, Jacksonville. If anyone has anything to share (a photo/portrait would be ideal, but family stories handed down or references to little-known publications would be great) I would love to learn more. Email me at sebgela@yahoo.com. Thank you very much.

Hemming/Holtzberg/Holtsberg

I have a photo of Mrs.? Hemming and daughter Paula, who is supposed to be the sister of Fredrika Sophia Holtzberg Nelson of Chicago and Kalmar, Åby parrish, Sweden who moved to Chicago in the early 1870's with her son, Aron.

The family in Sweden lost touch with her and her sister, Wendla, both very talented furniture makers. Wendla is said to have entered one of her pieces of furniture in the Columbian Exposition/Worlds Fair in Chicago in 1893 and won a prize.

2 of my relatives, ladies in their 80's, remember that the piece of furniture was an organ case, which may be in the Museum of the Chicago Historical Society. We have photos from our trip to Sweden in 2001 showing 10 pieces of their furniture.

We believe the Mrs ??? Hemming, is Johanna Holtzberg, the missing sister as this photo looks like the other sisters we have pictures of, but would love to find relatives of hers to corroborate.

I am looking for information on Elizabeth Hemming. My Elizabeth Hemming was married to James Green who was born in about 1766. He may have been born in Tockington, Glocestershire, England. The only thing my family knows about Elizabeth is that she died before 1841. Any information would be helpful, but we are especialy interested in finding information for the parents of either James or Elizabeth.
