I have copied the marriage certificate (marriage bond) for Peter Hemp & Creary Hutchins
Know all men by these presents, that we Peter Hemp & John Thornton (hard to read) are held and firmly bound unto James P. Preston, Governor of Virginia and his successors, for the *** of the Commonwealth in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these present. Sealed with our seals and dated this 23rd day of September A.D. 1817.
The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas a marriage is shortly intended to be solemnized between the abo9ve bound Peter Hemp bachelor and Creary Hutchins, spinster, of Augusta County, if therefore, there shall be no lawful cause to obst4ruct the said marriage, then the above obligations to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and v****e.
