Hemphills in Los angeles
My name is Don Coonan and I am researcher on a book project about Jack E. Peters, the publisher of Throttle Magazine in 1941. Lois T. Hemphill married a Jack E. Peters( born in 1899) on september 25, 1938 in Los angeles. His son by the same name is who I am trying to find information about. He would of been Lois' stepson, but he was already 18 or 19 when his father remarried. We are republishing Throttle Magazine in book form. The magazine was originally published in 1941, and It was one of the first automotive magazines and well regarded in it's day.
This project to republish Throttle has been under consideration for many years. In trying to honor Jack E. Peters (born about 1920) in the book we have tried to talk to as many of his contemporaries as possible. They all say that no one saw Jack Peters after World War II, and assumed he died in the War. In preparation for this book I tried to verify this fact; however, he doesn't show up on any of World War II dead or missing lists.
Does anyone know if Lois T. (Hemphill) Peters had any children that might still be alive? Did her older brother Harold I. Hemphill have any children?
Jack Peters graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angles in the winter of 1937. Jack E. Peters is on a 1942 voter registration, so his name is not John, but Legally Jack Elden Peters. Jack had a son featured in the last issue of Throttle Magazine, but only refers to him as Little Throttle. The son was born in the first quarter of 1941 or the last quarter of 1940.
I would really appreciate any help you can provide. We want to acknowledge in print the contribution Jack Peters made to automotive history.
Attached is a cover of the last issue and the third page of that issue which includes a picture of Jack Peters
