Here's a murder mystery puzzle, since I've been unable to track down more on how Irma (b- abt. 1913-1914 d- July 4, 1929) or her father William Hendershott fits in our Hendershot/Hendershott tree. With all this coverage I found with my subscription at NewspaperArchives.com there was not one article showing Irma's obit. I was hoping to find that in order to learn more about her family. I can't find Irma or her father William in the 1920 census, nor him in any other census in Missouri. Didn't get any hits for New Madrid Co. Missouri, where he was a "prominant farmer" as mentioned in some of these 1929 articles. It's like they just fell off the face of the earth except for these articles regarding Irma's murder. Perhaps others among our Hendershot Researchers will have better success than me in finding out more about Irma and her father William. Here are all of the articles I found and although there is AP repetition, there are little additional tidbits from them that aren't in every article. Can you help solve this mystery?

Irma Hendershott, 16, daughter of William Hendershott, a farmer, was shot and killed in the yard of her home near here late yesterday by Claude Mayberry, 23, a suitor, who was then slain by the girl's father as he attempted to commit suicide.
The youth had shot himself once with a revolver with which he had slain the young woman when Hendershott shot him down with a shot-gun.
Was Popular Girl
Irma, a popular young high school girl whose father was prominent in New Madrid county, was said to have known young Mayberry when he resided in this vicinity some time ago. Recently he had been in northern Illinois and had carried on a correspondence with her.
Mayberry returned here yesterday, and according to information given authorities, had expected Miss Hendershott to meet him at a bus station when he arrived. When she did not appear he went to the Hendershott farm and found her hoeing cotton.
Father Finishes Him
After a brief conversation they started toward the house. When they reached the back yard Mayberry pulled out a revolver and shot the girl four times, killing her instantly, then turned the weapon on himself.
The father rushed from a barn as he heard the shooting and shot Mayberry. The youth died immediately.
Authorities were making a further investigation today. Hendershott was not being held.
Little is know about Mayberry here. It is known that an uncle resides at Matthews, Mo.
