Classification: Query
Surnames: Henderson, Kerr
Hello. I'd like to briefly mention one set of my ancestors. William and Mary (KERR) HENDERSON, and his brother, Samuel and Catherine (?) HENDERSON, were part of a family-group which left County Sligo, Ireland, in 1823. They were heading to Canada.
Several researchers believe that William and Samuel were born in County Sligo, possibly in Sligo Town. But the "Sligo Research Centre" could not find records on them. They were both born between 1780 and 1785.
The other people in the group were: Patrick and Elizabeth (KERR?) KERR, Miss Elizabeth KERR, and John and Ann (HENDERSON) KERR. They went to the Prov. of Quebec and settled in Argenteuil County. The 5 couples had about 10 children each, and thus have many descendants. And none of the many researchers looking for the information can find out who their parents were !!
There were both KERR's and HENDERSON's in County Sligo but later in the 1800's. We have been told that the 2 families probably moved back and forth between counties looking for work. Since no Sligo records can be found on them, including marriage records and their children's births, we are considering that they lived in other parts of Ireland and moved to County Sligo a few years before they left in 1823.
