Having noted the very close phonetic similarity with this board name this message is posted on behalf of a number of us working on English families HENDEY, HENDAY, HENDY, spellings sometimes noted used in more than one version for the same individual.

We are concerned only with families of these names in the parishes of Beaulieu, Boldre, Lymington & Milton in the New Forest area of Hampshire, just south west of Southampton, although we are aware of other clusters of similar names in separate parts of the south of England.

In the common interest we invite anyone who knows they have ancestors of this name connected with this specific area of England prior to 1750 to contact us as we can supply a summary of virtually all recorded persons in the area bearing these names in that early period.

In return we ask only that you advise us of any connections to our list you establish.

Does anyone out there have information on Joseph Hendy born 1812 in New York. He was married to a Lucinda and they had at least 3 kids I know of. Cerelda,Caroline and John S. Joseph later married Martha Jane Pigg and had 6 more children with her. They moved to the Clay County,Illinois area. Looking for information on Linda Marion Hendy b. abt. 1879 in Australia. Father's name was James Went to England to live with relatives (Ebenezer Knapton + Harriet Hendy) in England at the age of six. Other than her marriage to Ernest Edward Winch in 1905, in England, little is known about her. Rumoured to have had a twin sister (married name may have been Scott) which she was separated from. Due to "olive skin" passed on to family, there is a possibility that she may have been aboriginal. A seach was done for information 40 years ago and whatever was found out was destroyed and not shared with anyone.

PLATTEVILLE

G. C. HENDY, merchant, Platteville; is a native of Dodgeville, Wis., born in 1847. His father, Samuel Hendy, was born in Cornwall, England, Parish of Breage, in February, 1820, son of James and Priscilla (Thomas) Hendy. His mother, whose maiden name was Ann Shephard, was born in March, 1820, also in Cornwall, England, Parish of Mullion, daughter of Thomas and Ann (Mitchell) Shephard. Mr. Hendy, Sr., came to America in June, 1842, and resided in Dodgeville, Wis., from that time till 1866, since which time he has resided in Platteville; soon after coming to Platteville, he bought out the bookstore of McCurn & Griswold, which he carried on till 1874 in company with his son. G. C. Hendy then sold out to his partner and retired from business; since which time the present proprietor has carried on the business alone. G. C. Hendy was married in 1877, to Miss Julia, daughter of John Kemler, Esq., one of the pioneers of Platteville, and has two children - John Kemler and Clarence Augustus.

My great-grandmother was Eleanor Hendy who married Gilbert Tapley. She was born in Holne, Devon, England about 1833. She and Gilbert came to the USA in about 1870 and settled in Elizabeth Illinois. Her parents were Isaac Hendy and Jane (Unknown Maiden name). She had a brother Thomas. I would like to find out more about Eleanor's ancestry and family.

I am a descendent of Dr. James Hendy, an endocrinologist at the University of Edinburgh, who was appointed Physician to the Royal Navy in the Caribbean by King George III. My family has lived in Barbados since the 1700s. I am interested in learning anything I can about them. Other family surnames are Thornhill, Trowbridge and Fitzpatrick. My grandmother, Annie Lawrance, was a native of St. Kitts. I understand that my family was originally from the counties of Cornwall and Dorset in England. I am looking for information pertaining to Titanic disaster victim Edward Martin Hendy. He was born in Freemantle, Hampshire, UK in 1873, the son of Thomas Hendy. By the 1880s the family were living in Millbrook, Hampshire and by 1912 Edward was a married man living in Southampton. A crew member on the Titanic, he lost his life.

Mary Hendy Rail bapt 11 Sept 1814 in Constantine, married George Townsend on 31 oct 1842 at Colan.
Mary's parents where Samuel Rail bapt 13 jan 1782 in Mabe and Hannah Hendy bapt 31 dec 1780.

Hannah Hendy married Thomas Hopkins on 10 March 1813 at St. Mary's Church, Portsea (i.e. Portsmouth), Hampshire, England. They had several children. Does anyone know who Hannah's parents were? I think she was born on the Isle of Wight and that her parents were either Isaac and Sarah Cawse or William and Sarah Chessell. But I am not sure. Any information gratefully received.

I am searching for Evelyn May - commonly called Eva - Hendy. She married
Fredrick Hendy in 1929 in Dublin, Ireland. They resided in Kilterman, just
outside of Dublin til about 1935. Evelyn and Fredrick had three children,
Evelyn Phyllis b.1930, Hilda Ruth b.1931 and Fredrick William Thomas b.1935.
I have not found any more records of the family in Ireland past the birth of
Fredrick. The family could have emigrated, but I am unsure as to where. If
