Looking for my Great, Great Grandfather & Grandmother: James & Sarah A Henry

Hello, I'm working on finding my father's side of the family and have traced it back to 1860 onwards to Iowa in different cities and counties within IA. They had two children born somewhere in PA in 1854 (James W. Henry) & Mary E. Henry B. 1856 in PA as well. Their third child (my great grandfather) John K. Henry was born 8 Jan 1859 in IA, So were the rest of the children that they had.

I don't know my great great grandmother's maiden name, but I suspect that she was born in PA of Irish background. It shows for the IA US Federa; Census Records that both James & Sarah A. Henry are either born in Ireland or PA, and that is as far as I've been able to track them.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me to find them before in either PA or in Ireland? If you have any information on these people, please email me at: RLhenry1@yahoo.com

With Many Thanks,
Roger L.

Edward O’Hara was a Herder/Farm Labourer, he married Bridget or Beesey Henery bn c 1864 daughter of James Henery and Kate O’Donnelly.

They had the following children:-

Edward bn 26/11/1883 in Ranaghan, Sligo
Michael bn 20/05/1886 also Ranaghan
Mary bn 20/06/1889 Ranaghan
John bn 15/06/1891 Ranaghan
Jane {Jean} bn 26/12/1893 in Arderee, Sligo  {My G Grandmother}
Bridget Kate bn 26/06/1898 in Cloonacurra, Sligo

My grandfather tells me that Mary and Jean my G Grandmother came to Gorbals, Glasgow looking for work he says his mother worked in a big house in Ireland prior to this but I Believe they may have moved with their mother Bridget in the early 1900’s after their father died as I have found a marriage certificate for her in 1908 when she married a John Pettipiece in Glasgow. Their Mother Bridget died in 1926 in Glasgow.

Jean married George Oliphant in Glasgow in 1920 and she died in 1952 in Springburn.

Mary Married a man who worked as a road roller in Glasgow.

It is believed that one of the other sons moved to Glasgow and married and a daughter moved to Canada to work in a newspaper office

Can anyone help me with obtaining further information on my family or are you connected somehow?

Would love to hear from you
Clare

Re: Henery Family

I am a descendant of Hugh McGovern, brother of Hannah McGoveron. I started this research into the McGovern family and the only information I have is off the NSW BDM indexes for the McGovern & Henry families respectively. I am interested in solving the riddles of the McGovern family as the information I have is fairly disjointed and does not make much sense. As far as I know, Edward McGovern/McGoveron had two wives. Firstly, Elisabeth Shannon (Hugh's mother) and Margaret Stanley (mother of Robert, Johnstone, Hannah & Gilbert).

If you would like further information such Hannah's emigration details (which you probably already have) and a copy of her death certificate. I would also appreciate any information that you could provide me with.
My name is Joan Gentry. I live in Richmond,Virginia. I am currently doing the Isaiah Wells family tree. My husband is a direct descendant of Pascal Taylor Wells. He and Ruth Eudora were 2 of 10 children. there was another sister, Nancy Jane Naylor. Robert Naylor died in Civil War and she wed a John Henery, a brother of Alvanus Henery. The only record I find there has named spelt Henry. I have at least 6 children listed for Ruth and "Van"Henery:Belle, Bazil, Charles, Herbert, Wade and Emmett. I found Bazil and Emmett buth with no dates. I would like to get as much information about the family before I publish the Wells family tree. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Joan

Dolores, I looked at the conversation you and Harry Fox had in May 2001, and my guess is you and he are descended from Col. Thomas Tavenner, who was born in London County, Virginia, April 18th,
1776. When twenty-two years of age, he came to Parkersburg, W.VA., and l was for many years a prominent leader in the affairs of this vicinity.
(Look in the Tavenner graveyard section of: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/wv/wood/cemetery/jh7.tx...)

My great-grandfather was Charles, descended from George Tavenner's son Richard, born in 1769 in Loudoun County. I don't know how Thomas and George are related, I had thought they weren't until finding the above reference today.

The other possibility is that Samuel Tavenner and Sarah Jane McCray had 2 sons, one named Charles, and one named Henry, born in 1857. Their Charles is a first cousin of my great-grandfather Charles, and I have no information on what happened to Henry, or if his nickname was Harry or what his middle name might have been.

Hi, Melanie. My name is Dennis Henry and I have been doing this Henery line since 1988. I am from the James Henry (1802-1845) branch of which not too much is known, but I do have about 700 names within Family Tree Maker concerning the entire Henery line starting with Simeon Henery, Drumbess, County Cavan, Ireland. On February 16, I tried your e-mail address, but don't know if you received it or not. Don't hesitate to e-mail me and I'll be happy to share what I have with what you have. I believe I already shared my line with Kelly Hockley. Probably better to use the regular mail as I have a ton of stuff. Sincerely, Dennis. DennisJerene@worldnet.att.net.

My grandfather was Glenn Melvin Henery. He was the son of Marcus Henery and grandson to James Henery of Ireland. I have some information on Marcus and James but not nearly enough. James immigrated to the United States in 1854. He married Mary Fulton of Scotland and they had five children, Templeton, George, Fulton, Nannie and William. George was the father of Marcus and Marcus the father of Glenn

UPDATE on HENERY/HENRY (surname) Families in CO, OH, ME, and Ireland

Since my post a distant relative was found and he had information on my Henry/Henery family that I am looking for. I am looking for others that also descend from this line. Elmer Henery and Susan Newsom married and had Leila M. Henery, George Henery, and Joseph Chester Henery (guess they called him Chester). Elmer's father was Joseph J. Henery and he married Lavina Noyes in Morgan Co., Ohio in 1852. Besides Elmer, Lavina and Joseph had Charles Luther Henery and George Noyes Henery. Joseph's father was John HENERY born in 1800 in Maine. Joseph's mother was Lillis McGonigle born 1800 in Vermont. Lillis and Robert were married in 1821 in Morgan Co., Ohio and had six children which were the following: Amy, James Canady, Luther, Joseph J., Robert D., and Thursa. John HENERY's father was Samuel HENRY (Sr.) and Tabitha DAVIS married 1795 in Maine. Samuel and Tabitha had eleven children which were the following: Robert, William, Rhonda, John, Jane, Nathan Brown, Samuel (Jr.), Rhoda, Nancy, David, and Charles. Samuel (Sr.) HENRY's father was Robert H. HENRY born in 1750 (Ireland) and Samuel's mother was Jane KENNEDY born about 1750 in Ireland and married in Lincoln County, Maine (year 1772). Besides having Samuel (Sr.) as a son, Robert H. HENRY and Jane KENNEDY had a daughter named, Nancy. This is the furthest that we've been able to go.

During the last year, I started Henry/Henery family genealogy and ran onto another distant cousin that had done a tremendous amount of work on our family. Thanks to him, I found out that we are (Elizabeth and Denise) 5th cousins 1 time removed. Their common ancestors are Samuel Sr. HENRY and Tabitha DAVIS.

Do you know if there is a Henry/Henery family book around that contains our information?

The Davis and Morgareidge families also were intermarried with the Scott family,Morgan Co.,Ohio.
