Henness in Australia

Hello, I am researching the Henness family in Australia. I believe this family came to Aus about 1860, although not sure how. William Henness was about 14 and his parents (according to death cert) were Nicholas Henness (sea pilot) and Watkin Wynn or Wynn Watkin. William married Catherine McMenamin(unsure of exact spelling) around 1868 and had children, John, William, Nicholas(my g-grandfather), Henry, Mary A, Hannah, Catherine, Joseph & Martha(Twins) and Charles. William died in 1918 and Catherine died in 1939 and they are buried at Corrimal Cemetery.

Nicholas was born in Hill End NSW in 1872 and died in 1944 (buried at Wollongong RC Cemetery). Nicholas married Catherine Wood in 1894. She was born in 1875 (Lancaster, England) and died in 1952 (buried at Woronora RC Cemetery).

If anyone has any information at all on this family, please contact me. email: hennessfamily@bigpond.com

Thanks & Regards
Feona

I have been doing research for over 20 years and have quite a few Henness names. I hope to retire in a few years so I'll have more time for this. I would like to hear from anyone who could help me in this research and maybe I can help you. My e-mail address is groger@bright.net. My research goes back to a Miles Hennis, who came to America back in the late 1500's or early 1600. And up to my grandchildren born in 1988, twins a boy and a girl. I would like to trace the Hennis(Henness) journey across the United States. We started on the East coast and have gone all the way to the West coast. Hope to hear from lots of other Henness'.

HENNESS vs ARNESS in the 1880 Census

My grandmother, Mattie L. (Martha Louise) HENNESS KEARNEY has been a mystery for some time. I was told that she was born in Ross County, Ohio in 1870, but I could not find the John W. HENNESS family in the 1880 census. But I knew she married my grandfather, Abraham Lincoln KEARNEY, in 1893 in Ross County.

Several days ago I found them in the 1880 census on Family Search. While I could not find them under the name HENNESS, when I searched for just the first name "Mattie" I found her and the entire household - listed under the name ARNESS. The birthdates and names of both parents and all siblings matched my records. It is easy to see how a handwritten HENNESS might look like ARNESS to the person typing the information. Of course, I was fortunate that the name started with an "A".

Hennis / Henness

Trying to locate any info I can on my Hennis ancesters. I have seen in a couple of instances where our name was spelled Henness so there for I believe that it has been spelled both ways. The farthest back I can go is James C. Hennis b.abt 1834, lived in Delaware but I don't believe this is where he was born. He married Esther Matilda Brosius about 1854, they moved to the South Jersey area. The only other information I have on him is that he may have a brother named David. I would greatly appreciate any help on this.
Thanks, Kathy Hennis Catlin (Pitasmom50@aol.com)

Does anyone have information on Mary D. Hennes married to Isaac Finley, they lived in Ohio, however I believe they were born in Virginia. The time segment would be around 1830-1864. These are my g/g/g/grandparents. Thanks Ann
