Actually, the cemetery is in Oskaloosa, Iowa. John and at least one wife are buried there along with several children. Some were very little (under 3 years old). I do remember seeing his son Benjamin Henness there. He was only 17 or 18 when he passed. It's a neat place.

Henness in Australia

Hello, I am researching the Henness family in Australia. I believe this family came to Aus about 1860, although not sure how. William Henness was about 14 and his parents (according to death cert) were Nicholas Henness (sea pilot) and Watkin Wynn or Wynn Watkin. William married Catherine McMenamin(unsure of exact spelling) around 1868 and had children, John, William, Nicholas(my g-grandfather), Henry, Mary A, Hannah, Catherine, Joseph & Martha(Twins) and Charles. William died in 1918 and Catherine died in 1939 and they are buried at Corrimal Cemetery.

Nicholas was born in Hill End NSW in 1872 and died in 1944 (buried at Wollongong RC Cemetery). Nicholas married Catherine Wood in 1894. She was born in 1875 (Lancaster, England) and died in 1952 (buried at Woronora RC Cemetery).

If anyone has any information at all on this family, please contact me. email: hennessfamily@bigpond.com

Thanks & Regards
Feona

Albert and Sarah's son, Ernest Harry was married to Ada Surrey, who was my g-grandmother's sister, on my fathers side. Ada was born 6/5/1868 to Thomas and Caroline Surrey, she and her sister Florence both spent time at "The new orphan houses", Ashley Down, Bristol, after their parents died. She married Ernest on 27/2/1890 in Birmingham. Apart from this info, I don't know anything else. Mom (Ruby) did go to a different place in Iowa for a few years during the WWII and lived with a friend or family. She did have the brothers and sisters you listed.

guess i'm at a dead end again. our ruby was in a home with relatives around the nevada, maxwell, cambridge, area in the late 40's. didn't know what her maiden was and all the people who would have known are long gone. the name forrest, russell, marilyn, and floyd also appeared in these letters so that is why i was searching this info out. guess this can go on the back burner. the family that she lived near to was a reynolds family.in story co. iowa. thanks for the help. gail

I wish I could have a great big poster with my family tree on it. It would make all this easier. We too have Joshua Lee Henness on our tree. My father is Jerald, his father is Marion, and his father is Fransis. Marion and Fransis are from Iowa. There is a very neat Henness Cemetary in Oskalooska Iowa. John and Ruth are buried there. They donated the land. Also there children, I forgot how many. But on son was Benjamin Henness who died when he was 17 and in the Cival War. Pretty neat.

Jason Raiff Henness Des Moines, Iowa
I have been doing research for over 20 years and have quite a few Henness names. I hope to retire in a few years so I'll have more time for this. I would like to hear from anyone who could help me in this research and maybe I can help you. My e-mail address is groger@bright.net. My research goes back to a Miles Hennis, who came to America back in the late 1500's or early 1600. And up to my grandchildren born in 1988, twins a boy and a girl. I would like to trace the Hennis(Henness) journey across the United States. We started on the East coast and have gone all the way to the West coast. Hope to hear from lots of other Henness'.

Hi again, if I read the chart right, we are first cousins,4 times removed. Please email me at henness@sbcglobal.net. I understand that there is usually a Henness reunion held every summer. But we felt we never fit in, so we didn't go. But now that the pieces have fallen into place, the next reunion you can count on seeing at least my wife and I there. I think it's usually held in Iowa.

Thanks! I am very interested in the HENNESS family in Ross County, Ohio. I know that some were pioneers and were in the county about the time that Ohio became a state in 1803.

But I don't know whether there is a relationship between the early HENNESS family and my HENNESS line. The earliest that I know of in my HENNESS line is John W. HENNESS, who was born about 1833 in Virginia.

Hi Gary,
Saw your post on Miles Hennis and him being a glassblower.
Thought perhaps there could possibly be a connection with your Henness and my Hennis. I have not been able to trace my Hennis's back any further then James Hennis b.1834 in Delaware. Before him I am stumped, but a great many of my ancesters were glassblowers and I thought just maybe (with fingers crossed) I've found some of my family. Other states that I know of with my line in are: New Jersey (large amount) and Ohio. If there is anything you can help me with, I will be forever in your debt. Thanks, Kathy

HENNESS vs ARNESS in the 1880 Census

My grandmother, Mattie L. (Martha Louise) HENNESS KEARNEY has been a mystery for some time. I was told that she was born in Ross County, Ohio in 1870, but I could not find the John W. HENNESS family in the 1880 census. But I knew she married my grandfather, Abraham Lincoln KEARNEY, in 1893 in Ross County.

Several days ago I found them in the 1880 census on Family Search. While I could not find them under the name HENNESS, when I searched for just the first name "Mattie" I found her and the entire household - listed under the name ARNESS. The birthdates and names of both parents and all siblings matched my records. It is easy to see how a handwritten HENNESS might look like ARNESS to the person typing the information. Of course, I was fortunate that the name started with an "A".

i just started researching my dads side of the family. the problem i am having is my dad left us when i was 5 yrs old and his adopted parents (which was really his uncle and aunt,or great aunt and uncle) never said much.my dads name is Douglas Ray Henness, his real dad is George Henness born Aug. 21 1917 and died Feb. 9 1994. his adopted parents where Theodore Rosevelt Henness born Nov. 15 1909 and died Nov. 7 1992, his wife Elnora Egnor Henness was born Feb. 26 1915 and died March 5 2000. Theodore and Elnora were married in Middleburg NY in Feb. 1932. all i know besides this is i am threw the Henness family some how related to General Richard Lee. which brought my search to Benjamin Henness who married Dorcas Lee and then to the three Davids but i have nothing on anything before or after this. So do you mind sharing what ever info you may have gotten. i can be reached at Lvirgo1975@aol.com. thank you
