I am looking for my ancester. He was John Hennessy, born nearly 1811, married to Elizabeth Sloane. They came from Ireland.
I think he was a marine deserter whaler ?
Who could help me with this kind of informations ?
He fleed to new caledonia nearly 1860 may be because of his desertion. But desertion of what ? Marine ? Army ? ... ? I don't know. Any idea ?

Several more details : he was also carpenter, santal trader. 3 childrens ; mary jane born in 1847 in Valparaiso, Chile. John Benjamin born nearly 1855 in Callaz (?), Peru. William born in 1857, Sydney, Australia

For the past 300 Years the village of Lisvernane deep in the Glen of Aherlow, County Tipperary, Ireland has produced hundreds of people with the Family Surname Hennessy.

Timothy Hennessy (born circa 1700 in Dangan, County Cork, Ireland) was my 4th Great Grandfather. He married Kate Fahy and the entire Townsland of Lisvernane of about 2,000 acres was evenly divided between himself and his brother-in-law Dennis Fahy. His great-great-great grandson Jack Hennessy now lives in the Homeplace and the entire village is peppered with Hennessy Cousins.

Many members of the Family emigrated the U.S.A. - mainly to Chicago - many are buried in the Calvary Cemetery, Evanston, Chicago. Savannah, Georgia was another popular destination.

Thomas & Patrick HENNESSY, left Co. Cork

Two brothers, Thomas and Patrick HENNESSY, left County Cork sometime before 1860 and moved into Wild Court, near Drury Lane, London, England. Thomas was born around 1835-6 and Patrick probably in 1846, if the ages on their marriage certificates are accurate.

In London, Thomas HENNESSY married Johanna BRESNAHAN [born 1840-1] in 1860 and Patrick HENNESSY married Julia SHEA [born 1849] in 1871. Both marriage certificates give the man's father's name as Patrick HENNESSY, a butcher. The women were both Irish; Julia SHEA is believed to be from County Kerry. Their marriage certificates show they were all Catholic at the time.

Patrick and Julia had a son - my grandfather, Thomas Patrick HENNESSY - in 1877.

A cousin has tried to find a family in Co Cork matching the two sons and the original butcher without success due to the then unavailability of centralised parish records for Co Cork.

We wonder if anyone on the List has any access to the various parish records in Co Cork. Unfortunately we have no idea which parish they were from. The main HENNESSY line in that area at that time seems to have been based in Ballymacmoy but we have no known connection with them or any other branch of the family.

Any help with researching this line - useful websites, printed records, research facilities, etc - would be very much appreciated.

My father was Matthew J Hennessy from Monour in the Glen of Aherlow, he had 3 brothers;Peter,John and William[Rev.Fr.Norbert O.Cist] and two sisters Sheila Mc Grath and Lille.They have all passed on.R.I.P. Their father was Peter Hennessy.
Does anybody have some more information on Peter Hennessys brothers, sisters, parents.

No, unfortunately we have nothing on either William & Patrick's siblings nor their parents, other than their names. There is an entry in the Griffiths Valuation for a Daniel Hennessy in Ballintober but I haven't followed through on this.

So many branches to search and so little time.

William was born in 1843 in Limerick and married Bridget Freeman here in Australia in 1874 at Araluen. He died in 1879 aged 36 years, by accidental drowning. He and Bridget had 3 children, 1 died at birth, the other two were Mary Catherine and Richard.

What do you know about the Hennessy's?

I come from a long line of Hennessey/Hennessy/Hennesey's and although I'm not absolutely sure where in Ireland they originated from there is a strong possibility they originated from Tipperary. The earliest ancestor I've managed to trace is Michael Hennessy, born abt 1800 the details taken from the UK 1861 census for his family are as follows,

Michael Hennessy head abt 1800 Ireland
Elizabeth Hennessy wife abt 1806 Ireland
William Hennessy son abt 1840 Ireland
Edward Hennessy son abt 1842 Ireland
Michael Hennessy son abt 1844 Ireland
Patrick Hennessy son abt 1846 Ireland
Ann Hennessy dau abt 1854 Whickham

Going of the date of their daughter being born in England and that I can't seem to find them on the 1851 census I am presuming that they came over to England somewhere between 1851 - 1854. Father & sons are alll listed as working down the coalmines in the Durham/Whickam area.

If you have any of the above listed in your collection, especially where they originated and other family members I'd really appreciate if you could let me know as I'm having a heck of a time trying to find out any more information.

I only know that my Johnson/Hennessy (Hennessey)people are from Cork, but not WHERE in Cork. I can tell you that in CT, there was a David Hennessy(Hennessey),born in Ireland about 1838-1842 (parents possibly Denis Hennessy and Margaret Johnson), who married Ellen Shay/Shea (parents Bartholomew Shay/Shea and Catherine Knott) in Derby, CT in 1865. They had sons Dennie, David and Bartholomew, and daughters named Katherine, Anna, Ellen, and Margaret. Baby Dennie died at one day old, but the names David and Bartholomew were passed on through each generation, the David apparently being from the Hennessy side (Bartholomew from the Shays). I would love to find my Hennessy/Johnson origins in County Cork, so would love to find we have a Hennessy connection! If any of this sounds familiar, let me know and I will look through other notes I've got.

I have a Hennessey/Hennessy family from this area.
Thomas Hennessey/Hennessy and his wife, Nancy Carroll, came from Fermoy, near Ballymacmoy, to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada with the Peter Robinson Settlers in 1825.
Thomas actually lived in the town of Fermoy.
Other related families are Hickey from Mallow/Doneraile, nearby and Flaherty from Killworth, also, nearby.

There is a Hennessy house in Ringaskiddy and someone has done the history of it ,all the names you mentioned are still prominent in the area I spent many of my childhood holidays in this beautiful little village but now I fear it has been overwhelmed by industry .My niece lives in the village and her sister Teresa Hennessy lives nearby I will ask them to track down the person who done the research .Monte in Cork .

The Royal Navy would have your GF home adress,Harbowline Island was one of the main bases for R.N.this was only hundreds of yards from Ring.The cemetary in Ring is called Barnaheile either the Cork County Council(coco.com) or the parish church of Shanbally control the records.Irish civil records began in 1864 the following Email adress covers Cork crs@mailp.hse.ie birth and death certs will give name adresses etc which can be looked up in 1901+1911 census.The nameTeresa(Treasa in Irish(Trass aah))is just a nice coincidence .Monte.

Am trying to find information on Frederick Ball who immigrated from England in 1892 and worked for Matilda Steedsman in Deloraine, Manitoba. He married Mary Jane Buchanan (Sanderson??) from Scotland in Deloraine on Feb. 21, 1908. He died in Saskatoon, SK March 25, 2948. They were married on 16 May 1897 in Lisgoold Co Cork Ireland, witness John Keating and Mary Donovan.

They appear in the census in 1901 in 61 William Street Midleton Co Cork.

The children appear in the census in 1911 in 37 William Street Nr Midleton Co Cork living with their aunt

My Son in Law is William wayne Hennessy, born New Zealand in 1954, His Father is Raymond born New Zealand 1929 and his father was William Hennessy born about 1909, and his father was William Hennessy born Cork Ireland about about 1875 and immigrated we beleive to Australia.

At this stage we are trying to find a link and after seeing the note on the message board thought we would make contact to see if we may be able to go forward with a family tree.

I see no replys to the post from you. Hoping you are still checking the boards. My Great Aunt Margaret Holden was married to Michael Hennessy about 1872. Michael was born in Tipperary about 1849. They came from Lancashire England to Marquette Michigan in 1872 and lived there the rest of their lives. Does any of this sound familiar? Thanks for your help.

thanks for your message,I am unable to confirm if Julia Hennessy & John Johnson are connected to my Cork / Ringaskiddy ancestors.

At this time all I have to gone on is as follows; I found a Lizzie Hennessy on the New York Passenger List she left Queenstown (aged 19) on SS Carmania & arrived New York 19/05/1909. The ship manifest states that she was joining her brother John Hennessy of 28, Ann St, Norwalk, Conn. The distance between Norwalk & New Haven is about 1 hour I believe.

Do you have any other information that may help to establish a link. Its a long shot but Julie may be a descendant of John Hennessy. Thanks Teresa Hennessy

I have been trying to trace my Cork ancestors for such a long time & one day in the near future would like to visit Cork but need some kind of lead to make the trip worthwhile.

You said that your niece lives in Ringaskiddy village & that the name of her sister is Teresa Hennessy, don’t you find this to be a coincidence? I wonder if she is connected to my family in some way.

I have been informed of some gravestones in a Ringaskiddy Churchyard, where my Great Grandparents David & Bridget are buried. Would you know the name of any RC Churchyards in Ringaskiddy?

Looking for any information on my great grandfather David Hennessy & his family. David was was born in the late 1850's in the Cork area possibly Ringaskiddy. I believe that he married twice & that his first wife died at a very young age, her name is unknown at this time. He remarried Bridget Cronin who was born abt 1865 in the Cork area.

To my knowledge they had the following children all born in the Cork / Ringaskiddy area, Michael abt 1877 (possibly from his first marriage), my grandfather Daniel abt 1884, John abt 1885 (may have emigrated to Norwalk, Connecticut, USA) David Joseph abt 1887, Margaret abt 1887, Joseph abt 1889, Bridget abt 1893, Lizzie abt 1897 (1909 may have emigrated to to Norwalk, Connecticut, USA) Hanria abt 1898 & James abt 1900 (1924 may have emigrated to Boston Massachusetts, USA).

My grandfather Daniel joined the Royal Navy abt 1906 & in 1908 married Elizabeth Kidney also born Cork abt 1881 their marriage took place in Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK where they both settled until their deaths in 1949 & 1958.

I have just started looking for info on my Great Grand fathers Christopher Hennessy who was born in wicklow and came out to New Zealand in the mid 1800s with his brother John and wife Mary Duncan.John was drowned in Opotiki 1878 and Christopher died in Opotiki in 1915.Would you have any info about this family in Ireland.I see a Christopher & John Hennessy listed in Griffiths Valuation extracts 1852-3 County Wicklow.

Norah Hennessy born abt 1862

Hi everybody,
I am trying to find the perants of "Norah" Hennessy born around 1862 in Spitalfields, London I think. She married a Frederick Fieldsend and had five children. I cant find any records of a Norah HEnnessy that fit the birth year. Any suggestions will help. Many thanks

james hennessy was married mary barry in bandon co. cork abt. 1865
5 children catherine , ellen , john, james, bridget.
bridget married john o'connell.1891. children walter, oscar, irene, kathleen, jack.

I might be. My great grandfather was Timothy Michael Hennessy (b. 1866). His brother, Jerome Hennessy (b. 1856), went to Australia (Young, New South Wales) as a priest. Their parents were Timothy and Ann Hennessy. I do not know of any other siblings, but in Who's Who in Australia (1935), it states that Father Jerome Hennessy's was born in Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland. I continue to look for other siblings of Fr. Jerome and Timothy. If John, James, and M. Hennessy turn up in my research, I sure will let you know.

Not to throw cold water on your search, but please realize that DeSoto, Texas is over 600 miles (965 km) from El Paso--about the same distance from Montgomery, Alabama to DeSoto, TX.

My Grandfather (James Joseph Hennessy) was the great, great grandson of Timothy Hennessy and Kate Fahy. Son of Timothy Hennessy and Ellen Quirk he was born in Lisvernane (1891)and emigrated to the United States (1911?). He always told me that I would "never know true happiness until you've been to Ireland". I have decided to take him at his word and my husband and I are planning our first trip to Ireland in 2009. I had done some search for his side of my heritage (with limited success), and was hoping to locate some of my family while I am there.

I was interested to read your comments on the Vale of Aherlow. My gt-grandfather's family came from Galbally. His name was John Glinnane (Glenane/Glenane)and he would have been there during the Famine. Has anyone any information on the family, or the effects of the Famine on a subsistence farmer in the area? He left Tipperary in 1852-ish, joined the RIC and was posted up to Donegal, then to Antrim and finally to Co. Derry where he died in Magherafelt in 1911.

I have only been able to find William Henesy one time on the census rolls.

He maaried Fanny Jeffries on Feb 23, 1878 in Coryell, Texas. They had two sons,Joe and Tate.

He later married Mary Jeffries and had 7 children. Their first child, Elmer was born in 1883.

He died in 1899 in Proctor, Comanche County, Texas

Mary died 17 March, 1907 at age 54.

Hi, I too am trying to find information on my ggrandfather who like yours, came from Ireland. He was as far as I can gather a merchant with his own ships. Another spelling for there name is O'Hennessey or Hansey. There are so many variations of it. My grandfather was James Hennessey from Harbour Grace. He married a Susan Coveyduck or Coveycock. Unsure which. Try all the Newfoundland sites for information, you may be able to trace backwards from there. Thanks, Madonna
