My great-grandmother, Bertha E. Henning Mannion, was born in Kentucky (b.1860 KY, d.1852 MI, m.1882 John Mannion in KY). She is the daughter of Godfrey (AKA Gottfried, b.1834 GER, d.1925 KY; parents George and Mary Henning, GER) and Barbara (nee: Mathis or Mathias b.abt.1825 FRA) Henning, m.1857 KY. The earliest US census where the family appears is in 1870:
