BOARDMAN, OHIO – Melinda L. “Mindy” Henning, 45, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, OHIO following a brief and unexpected illness.

Mindy was born Oct. 26, 1962 in Upper Sandusky, OHIO a daughter of Robert Jr. and Shirley Schrader Henning, and was raised in Morral.

She was a 1980 graduate of Ridgedale High School and a 1984 graduate of The OHIO State University, where she pursued her lifelong passion of becoming a naturalist and earned a bachelors degree in natural resources.

Melinda moved to Pittsburgh in 1987 to work with Pittsburgh City Parks. In the early 1990’s she relocated in the Youngstown area and began working as a naturalist with Mill Creek Metro Parks. She was currently the manager of interpretive services at Ford Nature Center

She was an active member of the Youngstown Road Runners Club and had served on the board of directors for the Youngstown Peace Race. She also belonged to a number of nature and environmental education associations and was a member of Fair Park Baptist Church in Marion.

Mindy was a kind, caring and giving person who enjoyed reading and traveling. Throughout her lifetime she visited 28 countries and always was concerned about the people and the environment. She would show her concern by bringing gifts to children and lending a helping hand to anyone in need of assistance. As an organ donor, Mindy’s final gift was made to LifeBanc, so that other lives may be continued.

Mindy leaves her parents, Robert and Shirley Henning of Honor, Michigan.; her sister, Polly Kramer of Delaware, Ohio; her nieces and nephews, Andrew Kramer, Cory Kramer, Jennifer Jones, Alyssa Jones, and David Jones; her grandmother, Mary Henning of Morral; several cousins, including Lewis Schrader, who was very close to her; and many extended family members and friends.

A sister, Julie Jones died in 1997. A brother, Scott Henning, died in 1984. Her grandparents, Lewis and Elizabeth Schrader, and Robert Henning, are also deceased.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, May 29, 2008 at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, in memory of her sister, Julie.
