Robert Henning 1771court recordsl Lancaster Co., VA

Virginia Lib has the Chancery Records on line and Court records from 1771 has son Robert, daughters listed as Milly wife of Charles Lee, wife Sarah Lewis Henning. Then later there is another court records listing John McTyre husband of Sarah Lewis Henning, Charles Lee husband of Milly Henning vs Lewis Henning orphan of Robert Henning. I believe the date on that was 1784. Original documents are hard to read.

Dear Nancy, thnak you for your message. I have no record of Henning moving to the USA, some of the Henning family of Poxwell Manor did move to Australia after they lost their Bank and the Poxwell Manor and Estate. I don't have a Leslie in my tree at all.

Do tell me, are you a relation of the Henning from Poxwell?

Kind regards,
Oliver Leighton-Boyce.

Only just seen your message posted last year. I thought you may be interested in my family tree. Henrietta Wansbrough Boyce 'nee Henning' (Etta) was my 2nd great grand mother and sister of Rachel Biddulph Henning. My family sent Rachel's letters to Etta back to Australia. The Hennings lived at Poxwell Manor in Dorest not far from my home in England. I would be interested to know if we are related and if so how? If you are interested, would you like a like to my tree?

Oliver Leighton-Boyce.

That is the last address that I have for her before she died, I think in the 1970's ?
I've got a David & Sydney on my list, David was the youngest & would have been born approx 1942.
I have Sidney as being a twin with Tommy, who was married to Lilian ?
I've only just started researching this side of the family, so I'm still gathering facts together.
Let me know if my info. so far matches yours & I'll check on the other brothers & sisters.
Regards - Janet

Unfortunately, I have almost nothing. I actually have 2 William Hennings in my database. One was married to Sarah Halstead in 1906, he was born in NY, probably meaning the state, in 1861. The other was married to Katie Oliver, no marriage date, no dates for him and they were divorced. Katie was born in 1865 and died in 1885 so she was young when they must have married. That's really all I have. In both cases, I search all individuals trying to find any bits of information about people they were connected to in my families, in these cases, the women.

Thanks for your message. The Friederike Louise Schulze who married Friedrich Wilhelm Henning at Tucheim 7 October 1882 was a daughter of Johann Friedrich Schulze and Marie Elisabeth Gröpler. She was born at Tucheim 13 August 1856. She bore a daughter out-of-wedlock at Tucheim on 11 September 1866. The daughter's name was Anna Louise Schulze and she married Johann August Haebich (b. Callington South Australia 17 May 1865 d. Bittern Victoria 9 October 1936) at Glenlee Victoria on 24 November 1896. Anna Louise Haebich nee Schulze died at Hastings Victoria on 27 December 1970. I have not been able to find what became of Anna Louise's mother, the Friederike Louise Schulze, who married Friedrich Wilhelm Henning in 1882. I had thought that she came to Australia with her daughter in about 1891-92 but am wondering whether she, in fact, stayed in Germany and her daughter Anna Louise came to Australia with her uncle, Carl Albert Schulze (1863-1928) when he and his family returned after a sojourn of a few years in Germany between 1886 and the early 1890s.
Thank you for your message: I am always very pleased to hear from Schulze researchers.
I'm sorry to say that I don't have a Julius Schulze on my database: he is probably not amongst my Schulze forebears, who came from Paplitz and Tucheim in Jerichowerland, Sachsen Anhalt.
'My' Schulzes emigrated to South Australia on five separate occasions between 1864 and 1884: there were rather a lot of them. Some remained in South Australia but others and their offspring went to Victoria, Western Australia and New South Wales.
Good luck with your research.

Hi, sorry to intrude on your post, but I am a direct descendant of a Julius Schulze who migrated to Australia in the late 1840s or early 1850. He married Adelaide Blackmore in Melbourne, and lived out his days in Geelong before passing away in the 1890s. I believe he came from Breslau.

Do you happen to know if he is related to your Schulze?

Capt. Fred Henning 1968-2009

Fred Henning dies - led S.F. tugboat company
Carl Nolte, Chronicle Staff Writer
Monday, August 10, 2009

Capt. Fred Henning, general manager of Baydelta Maritime, a major San Francisco-based tugboat company, died after an apparent heart attack Aug. 3. He was 41.

Capt. Henning, a 1995 graduate of the California Maritime Academy, was hired by Baydelta as a mate and operator in training in 1996 and soon rose to be a tugboat skipper and then general manager of Baydelta's operations.

"He could do it all," said Capt. Steve Ware, one of the principals at Baydelta. "He was a pilot, captain and administrator, admired by everyone. He was a consummate pro."

Capt. Henning held a number of positions in the maritime industry, including service as a member of the board of directors of the Marine Exchange of the San Francisco Bay Area and of the California Maritime Academy Foundation. He was also a member of the harbor safety committee for San Francisco Bay.

He was returning from a meeting at the Maritime Academy in Vallejo to plan a fundraising event when he was stricken while driving his car. He managed to pull off the road, and passers-by found him slumped over with the engine still running. Efforts to revive him failed.

Capt. Henning is survived by his wife, Nicholle, and two small children, Nathan and Greta of the family home in Benicia. His parents, Ken and Linda Henning, also survive.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo.

A memorial fund in support of his children has been established. It is the Fred Henning Children's Fund, c/o Borel Private Bank, 433 California St., San Francisco, CA 94104.

This article appeared on page C - 4 of the San Francisco Chronicle

Christie,

I may be able to help you a bit. My paternal grandmother was Florence Maxon Blevins (1900-1995). Her mother, Laura Gamble Maxon (1882-1949), divorced her first husband (my great-grandfather) in 1926. Later that year she married Nathan Wiley Henning (1886-1971) in Monessen PA.

Just last week I was visiting my sister in Denver who inherited our grandmother's Bible. I looked through this Bible only to discover that it was a Henning family Bible, purchased in 1880 by Nathan's father, James K. Henning (10 Oct 1845-17 Dec 1883) of Washington County PA.

There are 4 births, 8 deaths and one marriage recorded in this Bible. If this is your family, please contact me directly at yairi@lhtot.com as I can scan the relevant pages for you.

Rob Blevins
I've been really busy over the last few months (moving house) but my father was talking to Aunt Helen and her daughter -his cousin - last week, and I'll speak to them as well sometime this week. I've been reading some of the Henning/Staley/Morrow/Jay genealogy online and they're very interested to hear it.

As for the Wichita Falls Staley Henning contingent...ah, they all vanished because they went to Pennsylvania where Paul Otto Henning's family had settled - he got a job there in 1941 working for General Electric, and pretty much everyone packed up and went. I can't remember what happened to Nina and Lula Belle, Alice Staley's sisters. Nina's daughter Kathy lives in New York now, though, I can find out from her or Aunt Helen.

You said you were very interested in seeing what I find - are there any questions you specifically have or old files you want? I'll put them to the family if you like. I'm pretty new with genealogy, so I'm not sure what sort of files are desirable, but if I have anything, I'd be glad to copy for you.

I put my father on the job of looking for the family files - he knows that of Almeda (he seems very sure that her maiden name was Pierce) and John Staley, one great-grandparent was born in Bowie and one born in Whitesboro, but he can't remember which was which until he finds the records.

I drove up to Wichita Falls a few weeks ago as well and found myself right in front of Riverside when I aiming for to Lucy Park, so I thought I'd give it a look. I'm almost positive that's his mother, Amanda Morrow Staley, buried near John A.

From what I understand of the family genealogical situation, there is a pretty big contingent of people working on the Morrow/Jay line. It has been great fun wading through this, and I've come across some of your posts in the process, which have helped tremendously.

If you have the time, and if I have this any of this wrong or you have things to add, please let me know because there's so much to read through it can get pretty confusing... but in the interest of sharing information, this is what I've got out of the research on this line so far. Hopefully it will help someone at some point!

Preface: Alice Pauline and Helen Henning were the daughters of Alice Beatrice Staley and Paul Otto Henning. Alice Beatrice Staley is the daughter of Almeda Pierce and John A Staley.

Generation VI. John A Staley (I) and Amanda Morrow

i.	STALEY LINE ENDS HERE. Amanda and Rebecca Morrow Staley were sisters, the daughters of Joseph Jay Morrow and Elizabeth Smith Morrow. I understand that Rebecca and Martin Luther were your direct line of ancestors.

ii.	I’ve read that John Staley (I) was originally from Pennsylvania, and he went to Missouri with either his brother or his son — Martin Luther Staley, who married Rebecca Morrow, and who died in an Indian raid in the 1860s in Texas. I have a pretty good grasp on M.L. Staley's line through posts I've come across by you and other descendants of his. The main questions so far in this line seem to be

1. whether M.L. was John A.'s brother or son
2. Where John A. came from in PA
3. Who were his parents?

I understand that the Staley lineage is possibly German and that the spelling of the name might have been changed? And I am given to understand that Martin Luther's mother/John A's wife or mother might possibly be an Elizabeth Black?

Generation VII. Elizabeth Smith and Joseph Jay Morrow. John A Staley’s parents unknown, therefore...

i.	SMITH LINE ENDS HERE. Joseph is the son of William Morrow and Sarah (Sally) Jane Jay.

Generation VIII. William Morrow and Sarah (Sally) Jane Jay

i.	I am given to understand that there are at least two William Morrows from the same area in North Carolina? Research on the Wm Morrow who married Sarah Jay gets sketchy before a certain point. We know he died in MO, but the county history of the place he lived in Missouri seems to indicate he was born in Ireland, but some other research says all his children recorded that he was born in NC. I've also read his parents as possibly being James Morrow and Elizabeth Martha.
ii.	The James Morrow listed above was also born in NC, and legend has it that his father is buried in the same cemetery as he was, and that this unnamed father of his was born in Ulster according to family folklore. MORROW LINE ENDS HERE.
iii.	Sarah Jay who married Wm Morrow was born in NC and was the daughter of James Jay and Mary Voss. Mary Voss’s father may have been Joseph Voss, born 1720, VA. VOSS LINE ENDS HERE.

Generation IX: Possibly James Morrow and Elizabeth Martha, James Jay and Mary Voss

i.	James Jay was a deacon in NC, at the Flat River Primitive Baptist Church. He is the son of Mary Vestal/Vestall and William Jay.

Generation X: Possibly Joseph Voss (wife unknown), William Jay and Mary Vestal

i.	William Jay was a Quaker...or at least a William Jay was, because the years don't quite match up, so there might well be a missing generation in there, and there may be two William Jays, father and son. This seems to be a bone of contention among Jay researchers. This leaves the question of…if James Jay was a deacon at a Baptist Church, when did the family leave the Society of Friends?

ii.	I have that Mary Vestal/Vestall is the daughter of William Jr. Vestal/Vestall and Elizabeth Mercer, but there was something odd there with the connection as well. Or the dates were just messed up for Wm Jr. Vestal, because some people have him being born in 1720...which was approximately four years after he was listed married. Now there's a feat...being married four years before you're born.

Generation XI: William Jr. Vestal and Elizabeth Mercer. Possible: A William Jay and unknown wife OR John Jay and Mercy Bartlett(e) – unproven link

i.	Some Jay researchers accept a connection that one of the William Jays was the son of a John Jay and Mercy Bartlette, this John Jay being the son of Thomas Jay/Joy and Joan Gallup/Gallop. However, other Jay researchers have called the proof of this shaky. Therefore, JAY LINE ENDS HERE (?)
ii.	I have that Elizabeth Mercer, who was married to Wm Jr. Vestal, was the daughter of Thomas Mercer and Mary Greenaway. They were both born in Northamptonshire, England. MERCER LINE ENDS HERE.
iii.	William Jr. Vestal was probably the son of William Vestal, Sr., and Alice Glover, both born in England.

Generation XII: Thomas Mercer and Mary Greenaway, William Sr. Vestal and Alice Glover
i.	I’ve seen Mary Greenaway as the daughter of a John Greene and Anne Almy, however, this connection looks shaky to me. I need to see something convincing to accept that, so GREENAWAY LINE ENDS HERE.
ii.	I also see William Sr. Vestal as the son of a Frances Vassell (son of William Vassell and Anna King)—unsure about that one, too, so VESTAL LINE ENDS HERE.
iii.	Alice Glover is listed as the daughter of George Glover and Alice Lamboll but the dates don’t quite match up to me, so GLOVER LINE ENDS HERE.

Some final thoughts:

I had heard that someone way up the Staley line (possibly a Jay ancestor?) came over with the Winthrop fleet, but so far I haven't come across it in the research.

I've also come across a couple of people mentioning this direct line in DAR research, but I haven't seen anything yet about anyone being active in any war, let alone the Revolution, so this is so far a mystery to me as well.

And that - so far - is where I am at with the Staley lineage. Hopefully this is interesting to someone!
