Nothing for sure, but a few interesting notes....

the daughter's name of Hassie.
there is an Elom/Elon? in the Martin family, but really don't know where that name came from and it's actually in another branch.
can't find him in 1880, can't find George and Hassie either.

I found informaion I had put in my George T file that connected GT to a Robert Thomas Martin of Hill County. This Robert Thomas was born in 1867, and only A Martin,4, female is listed in 1870. I have the info but don't recall this person made the connection. What I find is more a Colwin? Martin from Tennessee for that.

I may have some additional information - but nothing really solid. I have a Melton Carter Martin, born on September 6, 1871 in Ft Worth Texas to parents who were both from Mississippi. The only ones who fit the bill are Hessie Hennington and G.T. Martin.

Melton Carter Martin married Laura Clementine Edwards in Cameron Oklahoma in 1888. They had 7 children - 5 who survived to adulthood - Elon, Hassie, Imagrace (Grace), Claude Alvin, and John Harrison. Does any of this sound familiar?

Having spent a great deal of time in the South Carolina archives, I have finally solved the mystery all of us Hennington researchers have pondered about Capt. John Hennington.
He owned a great deal of property, was a slave owner, had an impressive military career and held office. His wife was not Ann Howell as reported for decades. He's a fascinating character!

Karin, Thank you for responding to my search! I have recently found out that Dorcus Hennington and Thomas Welch are my greatgrandparents on my father's side. I'd like to trace both the Welches and Henningtons back as far as possible to find out where they came from originally. If you have a link to my family would you share that info with me? Also, do you have any info at all either about, or beyond Dorcus' grandfather Thomas Hennington, or Thomas Welches grandfather Dempsey Perry Welch?
Thanks for any information you have!...Donald

Query to all Hennington Researchers

Still working intensely on the Hennington line. I have resumed work on the Alabama/Texas research, in addition to previous Texas and Mississippi lines.South Carolina, and now North Carolina Hennington lines are of interest too, as most of these are likely related, or perhaps a tie-in from one main line.
Anyone who has done any Hennington work, will sooon discover there are MANY John Hennington's to confuse us all.
You'll also find Hennington's in Georgia, Tenneesee and Arkansas, and other states I have yet to work on.
I would welcome any ideas, theory's or direction from any one who is serious about working on this interesting family.
I have also begun to post various Hennington info on our family genealogy blog, and plan to post more at:
http://family-genealogy.blogspot.com/
Please take a look and see if you catch the research bug. I seldom see postings for this family, so why not dig out your notes and let's exchange some info!
Gayle Hennington-Van Horn

Hoping someone has found information on Hessie Hennington (b. ca. 1840, MS) and married George T Martin (b. ca. 1836, MS) 3 July 1859. They moved to Fort Worth, Texas with Hessie's brother William Garrison Hennington. I have found the Henningtons in Ellis County and have even found most of his children, but I have yet to find Hessie and George T past 1870. They had one known child A Martin (b. ca. 1866, MS). Did one or all of them die before 1880? was A Martin, Amanda, Ann or what? Could the George Martin found in Galveston, TX be the correct one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thomas Ephraim Hennington SC/MS/TX LA?

I am looking for information on Thomas Ephraim Hennington d. 1870's in Jasper County, TX. He appears to have been born in SC, wife (Rachel and Graham) and daughters were born in Mississippi. I have a lot of references to him when he was in the Jasper county area, including some of the things he did in Jasper as the county was being organized and settled. I am hoping to find out about his family, perhaps his parents or siblings.

I am not sure what part of MS he was in before heading to TX. My interest in him is a little different, I think. I have been researching some Harrells and Kings who lived in Jasper in the 1840's to 1870's. One of the Harrell's have his name as Ephraim Harrell. Ephraim (m. Anna or Elana Webb) has a son named Thomas Hennington Harrell. In addition, there is some word of mouth information that a Joseph Harrell in Jasper county at the same time had a mother who's name was Rachel Hennington. After the Civil War, Joseph's widow and daughter moved to Calcasieu Parish, LA where she stayed with a sister. Nearby were Hennington's who were also from Mississippi and SC. Joseph lived with the Kings and his sister or half sister Laurena Harrell King in Jasper county in th 1850 census. Finally, there are quite places where the Kings, Harrells, Hennington's, Smith, and other names vouched for character, signed as bondsmen, or other type of activities. One included a couple thousand bond co-signed by Thomas, for William King to be the county Treasurer.

Anybody have thoughts or insights into this family?

Juanita, have you been to the Good Cemetery in Jasper. I have and I have found my great, great, great grandfather Edward and his wife there along with Minor P. and his wife Suzan Good Wood, also Edwards daughter Louisa D.C. is buried there along with Joseph Conways son's Joseph earl's first wife Nancy Patterson good who died of Lukemia in the mid 20's. The graves are falling down or have been pushed over. Edward and Nancy's grave is falling apart due to the stone weathering away. I didn't see any Yeates there but they are relatives. Julia Ann, Thomas E. Hennington's daughter married Hannibal Good, Edwards son. Contact me please and we will correspond. Cliff Good

Thank You for information supplied. My relative is Julia Ann Hennington Good. Julia married a Hannibal Good from Jasper Texas. Hannibal was born in 1809 in Tn and was much older than his young wife from La. Also one of Zach Yeates kids Julia Yeates married a James W. Brown another kin of mine. James W. Brown was the son of Rebecca Good and John Brown who also lived in the Jasper area. After Hannibal died in 1871, Julia and two of her sons and one grandson moved to Mexia Texas and ran a cafe. Julia died in Lavaca County Texas in 1891 and is buried in Oakgrove Cemetery. I didn't know that Thomas had been married twice. Thanks Cliff

Hello, I'm Clifford N. Good
Thomas Ephraim Hennington was the father to Julia Ann Hennington who married one of my ancestors. Thomas and Rachael had the following children besides Julia Ann. Levisa, Emily, and Adaline. These are the only children I know of. My ancestor met Julia Ann in La. My relatives came to Texas in 1833 and settled in Jasper Co, Tx. They had leagues of land from Spanish Government. Hannibal was an older man when he married Julia Ann. Julia Ann is buried in LaVaca County, Tx in Oakgrove Cemetery. She died on April 24 1891. Have been looking for her sons for months now. Also a grandchild who was living with her. Any info about this family write back. Cliff

Seeking information about a J. H. Hennington who was married to Alice A. Griffin in Milam Co., Texas. They married July 3, 1881, and she died in 1892. She is buried in Joe Griffin Cemetery, Bell Co., Texas, along with a Hennington infant. My information is that J. H. Hennington was born May 26, 1861 and died October 14, 1917 in Milam Co., Texas. Would appreciate any information.
