Hennis family of Washington Co., Alabama

My great, great grandmother was Mary Jane Hennis; she married Joseph Wood in 1872. I am trying to research her line. I have an 1850 census with her father listed only as: L. HENNIS and her mother as: Tabitha. She died in 1928 Washington Co., Al and is buried at the Jones Hill Cemetery in Copeland, Al. However, her death was apparently not reported as the Dept. of Vital Statistics had no record of her death.

I know that the given names "William" and "Calvin" are passed down in that family.

Can anyone help me trace my great grandmother's line?
I live in Washington Co., Al

Hennis research in West Virginia

Hi,
This weekend I leave for a trip to WV for research on my Hennis and Davis line. I've received Civil War records for Jeremiah and Greenbury Hennis and I'm still sorting through them. This Hennis family bounced from Ohio to Brooke County and even eneded up in Jefferson County OH, Belmont and maybe even Harrison. I'm going to be checking on aJeremiah, David and Samuel. I've place all 3 of them in Broooke Count as early as 1820. Were they brothers? Hopefully I'll be able to figure that out. Was there a sister Jemima? (My ggrandmother who married Mathew Davis)

If anyone is researching this family and has additional information or has something they would like me to check on (assuming it is in Brooke County or Ohio County WV) I'll do the best I can. My email is cosner@kastner.net. I should be able to check email while gone. Sandy
Benjamin HENNIS m Sarah ARNOLD 1852 Hancock Co., IN

Seeking information on Benjamin HENNIS, who married Sarah Arnold in Hancock County, IN, 1852. I can find no record of him except on their marriage license, where his name is listed as Henness.

They had a child in 1853. Sarah remarried to a Johnson and she died in Brandywine Twp., Hancock County, IN in November of 1912. She was the daughter of Thompson Arnold and was born in Kentucky. I have been unable to find Benjamin on any census record. It seems he was here and gone, from where and to where I do not know. Any help appreciated.
Hennis from West Virginia

I'm just beginning to research this branch of my family. My ggradmother was Martha Ann Davis and her parents were Mathew Davis and Jemima Hennis. Jemima was born abour 1811 in VA. and married Mathew DAvis in No. 1829. Everything I found has the last name spelled Hannas, Hannahs, and Hannis. Just recently I obtained 2 letters, one written in 1875 in which she gives her full name and another one from1899. By 1899 she had 4 children but doesn't give her last name. She addressed the letters to Aunt Martha (my ggrandmother). The spelling of the last name in the letter made me realize I had been spelling it wrong. She also mentioned her siblings, George, Ida and Pearl. In the 1880 census I found them all with John Hennis. (no wife) I believe my gggrandmother Jemima Hennis Davis was related to this group. Was John her brother? As I scim the various census in Virginia/West Virginia, I have found several Hennis families living near or at least fairly close to Mathew and Jemima. A few Davis familes also, but that's another time. Is anyone else researching the Hennis family from Brooke County? I will be happy to share whatever information I have or will obtain thru my research. Thanks, Sandy
