Classification: Census
Surnames: Henofer - Henhoeffer
Pam, My relative Nicholas came to Phila. around 1833. At that time his last name was spelled Henhoeffer. Shortly afterward his name and his children's names were spelled Henofer. His daughter, Mary Catharine (Kate) Henofer is my great grandmother. Nicholas came from Baden, Germany, in an area just south of Karlsrue. Three towns associated with the family are Spessart, Volkersbach, and Etlingen.
Another Henofer came to (south) New Jersey before 1840. His son John is listed in the NJ 1880 Census, along with his three children.
From LDS records - 1880 PA Census:
John Henofer, widower, age 40, born NJ, occu: Tailor, Father born Prussia, Mother born New Jersey.
Frank son of John, single, age 17, born NJ, occu: printer, father & mother born New Jersey
Lizie {sic}, daughter of John, age 15, born NJ, occu: Corset Maker, both parents born New Jersey
Sefrin, son of John, age 13, born NJ, occu: telegraph boy, both parents born New Jersey
I have some more data on the "Henofer" family if you think it might be of help to you.
