to correct the previous message, the cause of death seems to be uncertain, one family member seems to think it was consumption whatwe think of as cancer. The time parameters are consistant with the story. Then his brothers name should be andrew.

Lena was my great grandmother, who had married Karl Hagbart Hanson from Skovereng Farm in Norway. He died in an accident shortly after my grandfather Harry "Eng" was born. She very shortly thereafter married John A. Nelson, from Sweden who had first come to Red Wing Minnesota, but later moved to Outagamie County, Maine Township where he married my Greatgrandmother, ran their farm, had several children, and died in 1939. I am looking for info on any and all of these people. My public family tree is Busch Family

Hello Nora, if you check on Terje's site you will find my grandfather's picture. Striking resemblence to your photo of the two men (one sitting one standing)...but wondering how they fit in now...I will keep you posted. Uncles maybe? Or cousins?

By the way just e-mail me through Picture Central. My rootsweb and ancestory.com pages seem to be not working properly. Ok? Was any of your family farming around Ankenes/Evenes/Ofoten?

My cousins from the Fredriksdatter Karlstrom side are wondering when that picture was taken.
The one cousin said that the picture might be taken in Nordland about 1860's or later. And it she said it looks to be it was a remade picture because at that time there was no S/N Dakota..just Dakota Territory...She is a bit of a historian...But they both agree that there is a striking resemblence to my grandfather in his younger years.
The picture of my grandfather is about 1900 as well.

Take a look, and let me know.

yours, Malodie Anderson Tchapko

I am looking for the hendricksen/son's with these family members. Martin, Knud, Syverine,Agnete,Oline, Johannes (John), Julius, andrew, Helene(a) Peter, Henrik and Berta. All from Norway, had a farm in Minnesota. Some of the Brothers kept the name of their Farm in Norway. Agnete is my Great Grand Mother on my Father's maternal side and Henrik and Berta were her parents. Anyone out there related to us? I have pictures from my Great Grandmother Agnete's Albumn, and a picture that hung in her home in Winfred South Dakota, Lake County. Any help would be appreciated. Am taking the pictures on a computer disk on a cross country trip and would love to share them. I can send them on line to proven relatives. thanx. Nora
Interesting...my father is Donald R. Henricken (born in 1930). His father's name was Anders Peter HenriKsen---married to DorA, not Doris. The spelling of his name was changed when he came from Denmark. Dora's maiden name was Bormann. I know very little pertaining to my family history on the HenriKsen side. According to my grandmother (Dora)...Anders Peter Henriksen was the blacksheep of his "well-t0-do"family in Denmark. He came to Boston on a ship...forget the name.

P. Henriksen of Winnipeg, Man.

I am looking information on the descendants of P. Henriksen of the Winnipeg area. Mrs. Henriksen is a daughter of August and Johanna (nee Larson) Benson, and who lived at Charleswood, Man. in 1944. Charleswood would be a suburb of Winnipeg now. She was probably Gertrude Benson, born Mar. 1910 at Winnipeg but she could be her sister, Annie Benson, born Aug. 1907. Gertrude had older brothers, Arthur and Olaf, and a younger sister Kay.

From the The Winnipeg Evening Tribune June 14, 1944 pg. no 19: "Mrs. Johanna Benson. Funeral services for Mrs. Johanna Benson, 70, of Oak Bluff, Man. were held today at 2:45 p.m. in Mordue's funeral home, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Benson was born in Sweden and came to Canada in 1900. In 1904 she moved to Oak Bluff, Man where she resided until nine months ago when she moved to Charleswood, Man to live with her daughter, Mrs. P. Henriksen. She was a member of the Ladies' Aid Society at Oak Bluff. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Henriksen and Mrs. Kay Wigg, England; two sons, Arthur, Oak Bluff; Olax, serving with the RCAF; one sister, Carrie Jorgensen, Norquay, Sask and three grandchildren. Her husband, August, died in 1934."

Thanks,
Steve

If this is your line, I can help you. Otherwise you will need more specific information on your ancestor, as Henriksen means 'Henrik's son' and could be any family. Family names were not normal until the second half of the 1800s. Yours, Adie

You should scan a picture of the painting and send it along as an attachment when writing to the library in Ribe. I am sure their local history people would be interested in seeing it.
That probably is your great grandfather, as Louis is not a very common name here, and everything else was also correct as far as you know. So send that information also when you write to Ribe. That would make it easier for them to find the family if it is true that they came from Slesvig, if they have the records there. Maybe somebody in Ribe will have to direct you to an local history archive in Slesvig. Good luck.

Reba is probably the county and town named Ribe on the west coast of Denmark. I do not have access to records from that area so I can not help you. There are many people named Henriksen, which means son of Henrik, so there would probably be no relationship to the Henriksens I am looking for. Until the late 1800s a person's last name was their father's first name plus 'son' or 'daughter'.
I found a web page for the library in Ribe, where there is also a local history archive. http://www.ribebib.dk/arkivet.htm . The email address is ribebib@ribekom.dk - perhaps they could help you there or tell you where to search. I am sure you can write to them in English.
I did find this one on a website of persons emigrating from Denmark. It looks like your man. Here it says he was born in Slesvig, but was last living in Ribe. Slesvig is the area lost to Germany in a war and then by a referendum, just south of the Danish border.
Name: Henriksen, Louis L. Stilling: Worker
Age: 22 Destination: Prince Albert, Canada
Kontrakt nr.: 403500 Forevisningsdato: 9/8/1902
Birth place: Slesvig
Last parish: Ribe Last county: Ribe
Last place of living: Ribe Destination land: Canada
Destination city: Prince Albert Destination state: Saskatchewan
Ship's name: Indirekte (I don't know if that means that there was more than one ship and route)
IDkode: I0203H0605
Hope this helps you.

2nd one published on 14 Nov 2007

Henriksen, Eugene

...He Cherished Life EUGENE HENRIKSEN, a lifelong San Bernardino County resident, was born August 20, 1932, at St. Bernardine Hospital and died there on October 14, 2007. An honors student and varsity football player, he was a member of Fontana's Newman High School's first graduating class. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, athlete and highly effective, many times commended law enforcement officer for the Rialto Police Department. He was later a long time range master and firearms instructor for the San Bernardino Police Department. His professional career in public service spanned more than five decades. As a law enforcement officer he worked assignments in patrol, as well as the detective bureau and later attained the rank of sergeant. He was an outspoken advocate for vigorous law enforcement in the belief that the most valuable contribution police officers can make to public safety was in the apprehension of the perpetrators of crime. He loved the out-of-doors and appreciated fine craftsmanship, learning about the art of high quality precision woodworking in close association with his Danish cabinetmaker grand father Henry Henriksen. Accompanying his father, at that time a San Bernardino National Forest Ranger, he began what became an intimate acquaintance with the waters, woods and brushlands of the County's valleys, deserts and surrounding mountains. In search of trout, he fished the streams of the Sierras, Idaho's lakes Coeur d' Alene and Pend Oriel, and the creeks and ponds of Aroostook County, Maine. He cherished life, friends and his close knit loving family, leaving Florence his wife of fifty-five years, son Raymond Henriksen, son Richard Henriksen and wife Rhonda, daughter Rachelle Phillips and husband Wally, granddaughters Dondee Sittisuphachoke and Amanda Schwartz, grandsons Joshua Henriksen and Zachary and Dominic Phillips, great grandchildren Katrina and Tyler Sittisuphachoke and Cameron Henriksen, brother Lester Henriksen and wife Barbara of Albuquerque, New Mexico, niece Clare Gernert of Madison, Wisconsin, niece Marta Henriksen of Albuquerque, New Mexico and nephew Lars Henriksen of Ashburn, Virginia.
Published in the San Bernardino Sun on 11/14/2007.
Dear Tore,

Thank you very much for your E-Mail, which I received today (15th May 2003)

I have been on holiday, hence the reason for being so late in replying.

I do not think this is the same Henriksen, I have managed to get his Baptism from a very kind Parson in Denmark, in fact he has given me all the Church Records for his Brothers and Sisters as well, there were eight children at the last count.

The stage that I am at now is, I have his Marriage Certificate in London, I have the four Birth Certificates for their family all born in London.

He separated from my Grandmother and Emigrated to Canada on his own in 19.02.1907. I can find no Divorce Records in the U.K. though my Grandmother remarried again in 1917 stating she Divorced him.

I can find no Records in Canada for his arrival, or even his Death, any ideas Tore.

Thank you very much for taking the time to Post a Reply.

Kind regards
Betty Mac

I guess now that I look at it more closely, the last name is not Dressler for the 24 year old passenger. So I guess it was just Johane and Valborg coming over together in 1893.

Dan
Thank you so much for posting it!!

I have Agnes's obituary and it confirms much of this.

I saw an immigration record for Agnes's sister Valborg and their mother Johane. There was another Dressler with them. It looks like it might be Gerhard? Age 24.

I don't suppose you've come across any information for them as well?

Thanx again for the posting!

Dan Shire
dashire@comcast.net
I found a WWI Draft record for an Andrew Donald HenriksOn born 08 Jan 1890.

He was living in Summit, Illinois. Born in Denmark, he "came to the U.S. when he was two years old".

It lists him as married.

I still can't find him in the 1920 census. I'm currently scouring through Summit, IL to see if maybe his name was messed up by the census taker.

I think this is our same "Donald A" Hendriksen.

Dan
dashire@comcast.net

Seeking information about the descendants of Hagbart Henriksen, born 12 Feb 1902 in Tarm, Egvad parish, Ringkobing County, Denmark. Hagbart is half brother to my husband's grandmother Astrid, 1894-1978. Hagbart's parents were Mads Henriksen, furniture maker, and Maren Katrine Jensen. Hagbart and a brother-in-law ran the family furniture factory in Denmark from about 1925-30.
Adie Agnew
