In 1983 Canada issued a stamp to recognize Josiah Henson. I have the Post Office poster for that issue available for sale. It is a lovely item and suitable for framing. Write me if interested.

David
Member, Royal Philatelic Society of Canada
shibumi.management@gmail.com

There may be a connection with this family living in Wmson Co., IL. My Henson family is also from there, living primarily in or around Creal Springs. I don't have a Jesse or Mary Elizabeth that I see, but I have names of others. My grandmother though once told me that her father (George Dewey Henson b, 1899 may have visited a relative by the name of Jesse.

Wanda

Hi Brad:
Did you receive any responses?

Nola was my grandmother too - she wasn't "full Cherokee Indian" - 50% at best. I have a photograph of her mother (Amanda Johnson Henson) who died when Nola was 11. Amanda absolutely looks like a Cherokee - it's surprising. Amanda may have been 100%, but there is no way to tell (that I'm aware of).

By the way, family tradition has always labeled her "Cherokee," but I've never seen evidence proving that.

Jim McClinton

Update for William C Henson. He was born 1821 In Indiana also has a brother John C Henson born 1822. they both move to Wayne Co IL serve in Civil War move to Piedmont MO where Williams last son Noah Austin Henson is born in 1871.They seem to stay around the Chapman family , Slover Family and Burketts as they move. I assume their father has to be one of the Hensons from NC Jesse, David, John C or maybe Phillip Who were all in IN abt 1820. William was 1st married to Isabel Slover, then Mary Dale who was married to Kiser first. John C married Clarinda Wilson. Can't find their parents any help please.

Regina, you and I may have spoke already about the Henson family in Williamson Co, IL, but I too have a Henson family that I am searching that was/is in Williamson Co, IL. Mostly living in the Creal Springs (Sulphur Springs) area. Although I don't seem to have a Jesse Henson, many of this family actually went by their middle names instead of their given first name. My connection is through Pleasant Howard Henson, son of John Henson and Nancy Hinton Henson.

This may be the line you are looking for, or may not be:
Two Lazarus Hensons in this line

Robert Henson, b. 1615, location. Perhaps England or VA...death, killed by Doeggs Indians, 1675, Stafford County, VA. Married to?? Unknown as far as JC pages say...only one child listed,

Joseph Henson, b. 1655, Charles County, MD. d. 3-22-1704 in the Potomac River, Stafford County, VA of drowning (who knows this stuff?)

Married, about 1680 to Margaret Elizabeth Hoyle, b. 1659 Stafford County, VA, Father Charles Hoyle b. 1639, Mother Elizabeth

Children:
Edmund or Edmond Henson, b. 1862, Stafford CO, VA
Joseph Henson, b. 1684
Charles Henson, b. 1686
Robert Henson, b. 1688

Edmund Henson, d. 11-13-1749, Overwharton Parish, Stafford CO, VA

Married to Elizabeth ? about 1720 in Stafford Co, VA

Children:
Joseph Henson b.1721 in Brumfield Parish, Culpeper CO, VA
Isabell Henson b. ABT 1723, Stafford CO, VA
Mary Henson b. ABT1725, Stafford Co, VA
Lazerus Henson b. ABT 1727 in Stafford CO, VA
Ann Henson, b. ABT 1729 in Stafford CO, VA

Joseph Henson, b. b.1721 in Brumfield Parish, Culpeper CO, VA, d. ABT 1794, Randolph Co, NC

Married Ann Rosse, b. ABT 1720 in Brumfield Parish, Culpeper Co, VA, Father was Andrew Rosse

Children:
1.Charles Henson, b. 1740 VA
2.Wiliam H. Henson b. May 1750 in VA
3.Lazerus Henson, b. 1752 in VA
4.Edmond Henson b. 1754 in VA
5.James Henson b. 1756 in VA
6.Joseph Henson b. 1758
7.Aaron Henson b. 1760
8.George Henson b. 1762

NOTE: From notes posted on this JC Thompson web site and other notes I have found on the web and forums, these are the same famous "Seven Henson brothers that married Seven Holder Sisters".....It may be that Holder was not a surname but it may have been, it is proposed, on these notes it my have meant Native American women, not a name.....anyone a Anthropology expert on this????

A copy of the Seven brothers that married seven sisters letter can be found on the Texas State Archives.

Another Note, more than one of the brothers served in the US Revolution. It is noted in the famous seven brother letter and other Military Archives.

Monty Henson's (our line of Hensons) down from William H. Henson was granted a land grant for his service in the war as was the custom.....200 acres Franklin Co, GA. Located on the Tugaloo River on May 5, 1785, Benjamin Cleveland owned land across river from Henson’s tract.

William H. Henson, b. May 1750, VA, d. 1816 Tranel Creek, Sumner County, TN

William H. Henson was granted a land grant in Pendleton District SC and on the census there 1790, close by to others he served with or under in Revolutionary War. I.E. it stated he acted as Colonel Benjamin Cleveland’s Aide-de-camp. (Okay tell me what that means exactly) What is an aid-de-camp?

In addition, their land/houses were seven houses from each other in the 1790 census.

Moved family to Sumner County TN ABT 1804. Many Hensons in and around Sumner CO, TN

Married to Elizabeth Holder, b. 1751 (Again the question is that her surname or and term for a Native American Woman)???

Children:
Jesse Henson, BEF 1775
Polly Henson, ABT 1776
William M. Henson ABT 1781, Pendleton District, SC
Josiah Josephus Henson, b. ABT 1785 in Pendleton District, SC
Thomas P. Henson, b. ABT 1790
Soloman Henson, b.
You are probably looking for the William H. Henson line as that is where they settled after moving from SC after 1804, Sumner CO, TN, six kids all born NC & SC at and during Revolutionary War.

My Hensons came from Blount County, AL in late 1850 to Smith County, TX (near Rusk)and it was a large family and some may have lived in Rusk or Cherokee County. Do you have any other names or dates? Henson married into Green family too among others

monty_henson@hotmail.com
Austin, TX

At any rate, it appears he connected with another Henson researcher that has us plugged into the Henson line down from. Jeanette Henson McClure of MO, has done much research on Henson and this line of Hensons below.

Robert Henson, b. 1615, location. Perhaps England or VA...death, killed by Doeggs Indians, 1675, Stafford County, VA. Married to?? Unknown as far as JC pages say...only one child listed,

(Follow the links for each Henson going back from William Miner Henson to see my alleged line.)

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

Joseph Henson, b. 1655, Charles County, MD. d. 3-22-1704 in the Potomac River, Stafford County, VA of drowning (who knows this stuff?)

Married, about 1680 to Margaret Elizabeth Hoyle, b. 1659 Stafford County, VA, Father Charles Hoyle b. 1639, Mother Elizabeth

Children:

Edmund or Edmond Henson, b. 1682, Stafford CO, VA
Joseph Henson, b. 1684
Charles Henson, b. 1686
Robert Henson, b. 1688

Edmund Henson, d. 11-13-1749, Overwharton Parish, Stafford CO, VA

Married to Elizabeth ? about 1720 in Stafford Co, VA

Children:

Joseph Henson b.1721 in Brumfield Parish, Culpeper CO, VA
Isabell Henson b. ABT 1723, Stafford CO, VA
Mary Henson b. ABT1725, Stafford Co, VA
Lazerus Henson b. ABT 1727 in Stafford CO, VA
Ann Henson, b. ABT 1729 in Stafford CO, VA

Joseph Henson, b. b.1721 in Brumfield Parish, Culpeper CO, VA, d. ABT 1794, Randolph Co, NC, stated by one Henson researcher to have served Revolutionary war, in addition to seven of the Henson sons

Married Ann Rosse, b. ABT 1720 in Brumfield Parish, Culpeper Co, VA, Father was Andrew Rosse

Children:

1.Charles Henson, b. 1740 VA
2.Wiliam H. Henson b. May 1750 in VA
3.Lazerus Henson, b. 1752 in VA
4.Edmond Henson b. 1754 in VA
5.James Henson b. 1756 in VA
6.Joseph Henson b. 1758
7.Aaron Henson b. 1760
8.George Henson b. 1762

NOTE: From notes posted on this JC Thompson web site and other notes I have found on the web and forums, these are the same famous "Seven Henson brothers that married Seven Holder Sisters".....It may be that Holder was not a surname but it may have been, it is proposed, on these notes it my have meant Native American women, not a name.....anyone a Anthropology expert on this????
A copy of the Seven brothers that married seven sisters letter can be found on the Texas State Archives.

monty_henson@hotmail.com

It has been difficult and I can use some help!!
My Thomas Henson has a wife Winnefred [Winnie] and in some form her name is in all of his census listing. His father had disapproved of something he had done, did not say what.
Is anyone researching these families? Who belongs to who?
Margie Allen

Here are 2 Thomas Henson families in 1860 and both in Arkansas at the same time. Which one belongs to Thomas Henson, Sr.??

Hello. Thank you for your response. Unfortunately I don't know anything about Alex Henson's parents or siblings. He married Laura Holland in Rusk County in 1879 and they had 12 children-Belford, Melvina, Joanne, Archie, Betty, Bessie, Claude, Albert, Henrietta, Martha, Arthur, and George. Each census lists Alex's birthplace differently.

My family and I have wondered if our Henson branch may have had family in one of the surrounding counties.

Please tell me more about your Henson branch.

Thanks

Hi, I'm Bev Evans. Dora Wheeler was my great, great grandmother. She was married to Robert Henderson. From the stories past down through the family your grandfather changed his name from Henderson to Henson when he moved to California.
He had several siblings. My great grandmother (Molly Lorene) was his sister. His mother (Dora Wheeler) did indeed die in a nursing home in Oklahoma at the age of 96. She had raised my grandmother as Molly died at the age of 26. My grandma couldn't bear the thought of putting her in a home so she took a job there to keep an eye on things. You can contact me at dbesoonerfans@rocketmail.com

I have very little information to use, But I am looking for a "Will" Henson who married a Sadie Farmer. They had a child named Carl, and I am unsure as to whether there were any siblings. I think "Will" Henson's birth date should fall around 1900.
