James Henton & Helen Augusta Crook

I'm looking for birth/death date/place for James Henton and Helen Augusta Crook. I know that he died 5 July 1895 and that Helen was born 15 Dec 1844 in either Beekmantown or Plattsburgh, Clinton county, New York. They had two children, Grace and Stanhope. Helen's parents were Thomas Crook (1798-1879) and Hannah Elizabeth DeLong (1805-1874).

I just recently found out that James was in the 14th Infantry during the Civil War. Here's an excerpt from 14th Infantry in Congressional Record 1861-1866 located at:

http://1-14th.com/HistEarly-1776.htm#Henton
----------------------------------------
Henton, James. Born in England. Was a private, a corporal, a sergeant, and a 1st sergeant in D company, 6th infantry from 22 Nov 1853 to 22 Nov 1858; private, general service and private and 1st sergeant in A company, 2nd battalion, 14th infantry from 14 may 1860 to 25 oct 1861; made 2nd lieutenant in 14th infantry on 5 oct 1861; made 1st lieutenant on 19 feb 1862; captain on 4 nov 1865; transferred to the 23rd infantry on 21 sep 1866; made major on 31 jan 1891; lieutenant colonel on 13 aug 1894; made brevet captain on 13 mar 1865 for gallantry and meritorious service in the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; died on 5 july 1895.
--------------------------------
As a Captain, he was stationed at Fort Union, Mora County, New Mexico in 1881. In 1883 he served as Commanding Officer at Fort Union. As a Major, he was the last commander at the Hart’s Mill site (Old Fort Bliss, Texas) from 1891 to 1893, with two companies of the 23rd Infantry.

As you can see, there's quite a bit known about his military career, but I've found very little concerning his personal life and family. I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

I am looking for the origins of a Henton family from St. Thomas Virgin Islands. The earlier member I have for this family is Joseph Henton born 1840 in the Danish Virgin Islands. He may have been a mulatto free man of color and baptized in the Anglican church. Any link to a Henton known to have gone to sea or to the West Indies would be appreciated.

Henton or Hinton family in Clark County Arknasas

I am searching form the family of H. C. and Rebecca Henton (or Hinton) that ended up in Amity, Clark County, Arkansas. Their children were listed as Henry W., Josephine, Vienna, my great grandfather John Winston (who died in Sulphur Springs, Texas with his daughters), Julia, Samuel, Thomas, and Sarah. There may have been another named Leta. Rebecca died in Arkansas about 1907-need to know where she is buried. H. C. disappeared-we don't know where. John married Zilphia Thompson from Amity, Arkansas. We know where he is but Zilphia's burial place is still unknown. We know nothing of Henry W., Josephine, Vienna, Julia, Samuel,Thomas, or Leta. Sarah E. Henton married Andrew Rush in 1880 and had the following children-Jewel, Claude, Bruce, Laura, Inez, Dora, and one unknown child. The Rush family has been located in Amity, Arkansas. Some of this family are buried in the Thompson Chapel Cemetery. I would love to hear from any of the family that may be able to help me in my search. I would be very happy to share what information I have. My biggest questions are-Where is Zilphia Henton wife of John W. and where is Rebecca Henton, wife of H. C.?? Any help would be appreciated.

I am looking for anyone who may have some information on my Biological Grandfather. His name is Warren Matthew Henton. He was born on June 4,1919 and died July 24, 1991.
He had two children which he abandoned when they were young. This was my father and my aunt. They have a half sister some where. Either in Utah,Idaho, or Wyoming. He did construction work in these states also. He was in the US Navy and married "Alice" Metzler from Lysite, Wyoming. He had a sister who maintained a ranch near Crowheart, Wyoming. My aunt would like to meet her half sister if it is at all possible. Please if any one could help me please e-mail me. Thank you Valerie Crippen

Thomas Henton of Ripley Co., IN, KY, VA
Thanks to Hampton Henton of Woodford Co., KY, I now have the documents that prove that Thomas Henton b. abt 1772/3 was the son of Joseph Henton who d. 1780 in Shelby Co., KY.

This is the Thomas Henton that married Elizabeth Smith (gd/o David Cole) in Shelby Co., KY in 1810. He later moved to Jefferson than Ripley Co., Indiana.

Land deed records from Woodford Co., show that Thomas the s/o Joseph sold the land that Joseph had claimed in 1780. The signatures on these deeds match that of the signature or Thomas Henton on the 1810 marriage record. The records also list Thomas Henton's wife as Elizabeth.

This corrects several misconceptions about this Thomas.
He is not Thomas b. 1791 d. 1843 s/o George Henton and Mary Rigney of Orange Co., IN.

My Henton Line is now as follows:

Jane Henton/Hinton w/o Charles Green
Thomas Henton & Elizabeth Smith (gd/o David Cole)
Joseph Henton and Elizabeth UNKNOWN
William Henton and Mary Jones
George Henton and Persis (Boone)

Guy Henton/Hinton

This is one of my larger brick walls. I've been hunting for info on my gggrandfather, Guy Hinton, and his daughters, Francis Hinton, 1847-1884, married to Owen B Mason, and Martha Hinton, age 17 yrs. in the 1870 census, when she was living with Francis and Owen at Fall River, KS. Guy Hinton was in Kansas in the 1850's, a minister with either the Presbyterian, United Brethern, or Methodist Church. There is a Guy Henton/Hinton b. 1809, married to Mary Dillard, youngest son of George H. Henton and Mary Rigney. I do not think they're too old to be Francis and Martha's parents, but believe there must be other, older siblings. There is a Vachel Hinton of KS, killed at Pine Bluff, Ark. in Owen Mason's Civil War company, also William H Hinton from KS, who died of disease, Zacheus Hinton, died at VanBuren, Ark, Henry and Marion Hinton who both mustered out safely. I have not seen anything on Mary Dillard beyond the marriage in 1830. I believe Guy may have been an abolitionist, but have not found any proof apart from otherwise excellent family notes naming Francis Hinton's father as "Guy Hinton, Presb. minister" and a history of family attitudes concerning equality. If anything sounds familiar, I'm interested. Any and all information is appreciated. Thanks!
MaryAnn
