Hepburns in the Caribbean

I am descended from Henrietta Hepburn, b. 12 Dec 1873 in St. Vincent, but raised in St. Lucia. I don't have her father's name, but he had a sister Sophia Hepburn. Her mother was Margaret Rason.

LDS records show a William Hepburn, b. 1766 in St. Vincent; mar. Henrietta Herbert 1791 in St. Vincent. I suppose these are ancestors, but have not yet made the connection.

Anyone other Hepburns out there with Caribbean roots?

Hepburn Ancestory

Hi to all Hepburns.. i`m sure we`re all related somewhere along the way! As far as my research tells me the Hepburn Family name was first registered in Northumbria,England, in 1408, which would make them from the votadini tribe which stretched from Edingburgh to northumbria.I believe the gaelic translation for the name would be house by the river- heb = a small house, burn = a river. because of its close proximity to the border of scotland its likely some where sheep rustlers, my grandfather told me some had been hanged for it! then later in history the hepburn clan where attacked by a scottish clan, defeated, and were being taken back to scotland when they were attacked by another scottish clan. A father and son from the hepburn clan distinguished themselves so in battle by saving the life of a Scottish laird, who was the known as the red o`daire.
For this act they were granted the lands of shetland and orkney as their home(cheers), and forever after the Hepburns were known as fearsome warriors(nice). although the islands are no longer associated to the Hepburn name. From my own personal family tree my great grandfather was a docker on the clyde, then a coal shoveller on the australia run, before movng down south to the east end of london.

I was told by my grandfather (Ernest Hepburn) who died several years ago that the family surname used to be Bothwell-Hepburn. He was not sure how many generations ago this was. I think he (Ernest) was born in Bristol in 1909, but it is possible he was born in Scotland and the birth registered in Bristol later. Does anyone know anything about eth use of teh surname Bothwell-Hepburn

I'm trying to source information on one Captain (sea) Walter Strahan Hepburn, who had a daughter Ann Maria Hepburn born in Dundee around 1841. She married Robert Park of North Shields, Northumberland, at Tynemouth in 1864. She possibly had a sister Isabella Strahan Hepburn born around 1843 who migrated to Australia. Walter's wife may have been Eliza Jack.

There is believed to be a connection with the Ridley's of Blagdon Hall, Northumberland.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Iain Hedley
ihedley@blueyonder.co.uk
iain.hedley@nnpa.org.uk

Hepburn - Ramsay Connection Scotland

Am trying to trace information on the marriage of David Ramsay and Elizabeth Hepburn in Scotland 23 Feb 1866.
My grandfather was named William Hepburn Ramsay (b. 1872 in Texas) and one of his brothers was named David (b 1874 in Texas). Their father was James Deglish Ramsay who was born in Scotland - immigrated to Texas in 1866 - and gave at least 4 birthdates on various records (i.e, 1839, 1843, 1849, and 1850) which makes tracing him next to impossible given all the children in Scotland who have been named James.
It is a stretch but it is hoped that there is some connection between David Ramsay/Elizabeth Hepburn and our family. For example, the Scotland David might be a brother of James. We have exhausted all sources of information and would appreciate any help anyone can give us. Thank You.
William Hepburn (1774 - 1854)

Seeking information about WILLIAM HEPBURN (born about 1774 in Ireland or Scotland, died 4 Jun 1854 in Curwensville, Clearfield, Pennsylvania) who married MARY ELIZABETH MCCRACKEN (born 26 Apr 1786 in Buffalo Valley, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, died 6 Oct 1823 in Penn, Clearfield, Pennsylvania) sometime around 1814.

Does anyone have a date for their marriage? Birthdate and definite locale for William? Immigration date for William? Most importantly for me, parents of William?

Family legend has always connected this line to the Bothwell Hepburns of Scotland and I'm having a lot of difficulty doing the research. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Erik

G'Day all, Elizabeth Hepburn married Matthew Miller 3 Mar 1865 and had a son Andrew Hepburn Miller born abt 1875 died 21 Dec 1911. Andrew was my Grandfather. Hoping to find more about Elizabeth and others of that ilk. I found nothing when I trawled back over the past threads. Am I in the right place? Wouldn't it be nice if Ancestry had censuses for Scotland in same detail as for England. Cheers, John Bennett in Western Oz.

Idell HEPBURN of San Mateo, California

Seeking information in re:

Mrs. Idell HEPBURN, b. 28 Apr 1893 (unknown locality), d. 8 Jan 1975 (San Mateo, California), m. (unknown date) George HEPBURN of the Cambria/Clearfield County, Pennsylvania Hepburn family. George died some time before Idell, probably ~1950-1965 or so. It has been said that they were quite well off and that George was a mover and shaker in San Mateo business circles. George is also known to have been in the U.S. Army just before WWI and was single at the time. It is probable that they married in the 1920s.

My mother has some treasured heirlooms that belonged to this couple and she always speaks fondly of her "Aunt Idell," but not much information beyond what I've typed above.

Does anyone know her maiden name? Where she was born? The date and place of her marriage to my ggg-uncle George? Anything?

Appreciate any leads -

Erik

Peter Hepburn from Geenock Scotland arrived at EllisIsland1923

My grandfather arrived in the US aboard Trinculo in September of 1919. His name was Peter Hepburn. His name is listed on the crew manifest. His duties is listed as O.S. and a small n.c. is listed next to that. I believe nc means noncommissioned. Also on board were Peter's brother James and John Hepburn. John and James were also on the crew. Peter Hepburn married Mary O'Neill who arrived at
EllisIsland in 1923. I believe Peter died in 1944. Mary lived until 1985 and was remarried to a man named Armitage (possibly David). Mary lived in Brooklyn. Her children arre James, William, Peter (my dad) and Helen (all hepburns), other children include Ed, Frank, David aka Sonny, Andrew and Margaret. I believe they were all Armitage but not absolutely sure about Frank and Ed. I am seeking family in Greenock or elsewhere.
I can be reached at teacher 34 AT yahoo dot com.
eliminate the space btw teacher and 34.

thanks.

Hepburns in Lanark Scotland

An ancestor named John Hepburn was the Governor of the Lanark County Prison in the Burgh of Lanark in the late 1830's. John was a veteran of the Battle of Waterloo, having served with the Royal Scots Greys. Details are available on my web site www.mykidsancestors.com.

I would like to find more about John's family and their descendants.
If anyone has access to the 1841 census a look-up would be appreciated.

David Elliot Hepburn in Virginia b@1870 m. Georgia Nuthall?

Hello,
I'm searching for information on David Elliot Hepburn, who was born b/n 1866 and 1870 and lived in Baltimore, MD and areas around Richmond Virginia. He was a preacher. He shows up on several census' which report him as being born in Ireland, and one that reports he was born in Pennsylvania! The census also say that he came to the USA in either 1877 or 1885. He was married to a Georgia or Georgie, possibly Georgia McCord Nuthall, from Maryland. Family history shows that his father was Samuel Hepburn and mother was Eleanor Elliot, but I have been unable to confirm this. Family history also shows that Eleanor's father may have been a sea captain, also named David Elliot, whose ship wrecked and sank off Cape Hatteras, NC.

Any enlightenment or extra info would be greatly appreciated!
HASKELL, HEPBURN, CRONE

The 1880 census of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois has the following family:

Thomas W. Crone, Self, single, 26, born NY, father born ENG, mother born NY, occupation "at home"
Nancie F. Crone, Mother, married, 64, born NY, father born SCOT, mother born NY, occupation "keeping house"
Margret Robinson, Other, widow, 47, born IL, both parents born MI, occupation "boarding"
Maria Haskell, sister, widow, age 71, born NY, father born SCOT, mother born NY, occupation "at home"

There is a Maria Haskell who died 13 May 1892 at the age of 82 years and 5 months in Illinois, whose body was taken to be buried in Ogdensburg, NY. This cryptic obituary states that her maiden name was "Hepburn."

From the information in the census, and assuming the Maria Haskell in that census was the same as the one who died in 1892, it would appear that Nancie and Maria were sisters, both born Hepburn.

Can anyone tell me anything at all about this family?
Nelson William Hepburn - brn Emmetsburg, IA

I am helping a young friend do research on her family. Her great grandfather is Nelson William Hepburn born 2/20/1884 Emmetsburg, IA on 12/29/1910 in Gilman, Illinois married Mary Elizabeth Mann born 1/29/1886. His father was JG Hepburn and mother Jessie MacDonald. That is all the info that we have on the ancestors. Is there anyone out there that can give us information further back on JG Hepburn and Jessie MacDonald. She needs as much information as possible for a research paper that she is working on. Thank you for your time. Jeanette Hunsicker

Israel Hepburn, Belmont County, Ohio

Israel was born in 1806 in Virginia (now West Virginia?) to James Hepburn, b. abt. 1782 and Elizabeth Haines or Haynes. In the 1880 census Israel, aged 74, lists his Father's birthplace as MD and his Mother's as PA. James and his wife and other children settled in Indiana, while Israel married Ruth Ann Spears and lived his life in Belmont County, Ohio. Does anyone have any information about James and Elizabeth?? We think James's Father's name may have been William. Thanks, Skip jmagyar2@attbi.com

I am just starting a search on my family. My great grand parents are Catharine and James Edward Hepburn, married in Boston in 1865. They are both buried in Alexandria, VA. They had eight children: Annie Maria, James J., John Francis, Mary Ellen, Charles Alexander, Katie Virginia, Annie Elizabeth, Maggie May, born between 1865 and and 1881. John Francis lived in Alexandria, VA and his son, John Francis, Jr. (born in 1914) is my father. My father is an only child and died in 1972, so I don't know much about the family. I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

He was married to Marie ..................... and they lived in Milwaukee, seemed to me somewhere near Fair grounds. Ora was the son of ..............Hepburn who married Lucy Parker b. 1868 Deerfield T. WI - 4-4-1917 Oshkosh. (She also married a Kimball) Lucy's father was my great great grandfather Abel Parker 1813-1900 and Hannah Rose 1830-1922. Not much to go on but someone must know Ora and Marie Hepburn.
David

I am searching for relatives to help me with a family tree and medical health history. His birthday was December 5th, early 1940's. I recall a half-brother named Gerry or Jerry.
Julia Hepburn (1810-1863)

I am searching for information on the parents and ancestors of Julia Hepburn. She was born on 6 Dec 1810 and married William Rawle Shoemaker in 1830 in Milton, Northumberland County, PA. She traveled west with her husband, and they settled at Fort Union, Mora County, New Mexico in 1851. She died in 1863 in New Mexico. I have a lot of information on the Shoemaker family but nothing more than her name and dates for the Hepburn family. All help will be appreciated.

In particular, William was born ~1812, and married his second wife Nancy Mulholland in 1847 or 1848. They had a family of thirteen children and lived in the Morewood area.
