I do not seem to have anything about him that comes to hand immediately. I discovered the James Martin I was looking for was not the one married into the Hepditch family so have not continued with that particular line of research. If I come across anything that I think will be helpful I will contact you. Sorry, K.

Hi,
My Mother was Mary Hipditch/Hepditch from Merasheen Island, Newfoundland. We were resettled from the Island in 1968 under the goverments resettlement program. My Grandfather was Richard Hipditch from Merasheen Island. There are very few Hipditch's here in Newfoundland, but I do have uncils in ontario. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, I found those records. If I had not seen Fannie on the manifest I would not have connected that record automatically because of the fact they had Margaret listed as Martha. I also noticed the error in the spelling of her last name on the other one. Hepditch seems a straightforward kind of name but I have seen several spellings. And thanks I will look at the St. John's records next.

Hi,
My thinking is that the origin is St. John's, Newfoundland.
If you use familysearch.org, you can find the New Hampshire marriage of Richard G. Martin to Susan A. Smart on 15 Aug 1914.
Also there is Fanny J. Martin to Frederick Locke on 22 Jul 1893.

Eric

Thank you for the responses.
Have any of you ever seen the name spelled Hapditch? I have found some listings for marriages and births in Canada though so far they seem to have been in "Newfoundland" rather than New Brunswick. I have also found Martin in the same area. This may be a completely different family than Hepditch.
Something else I found, a manifest listing Mrs. Martin, Mrs Hepditch and children Fanny, William and Richard. The ship was the Nova Scotian arrival date 16 Jul 1887 which could be a match to the arrival of the family I am searching for though it does not list Portsmouth NH as a stopping point. States St. Johns, Halifax and Baltimore and appears to have left from Liverpool. They could have picked up passengers at any of the mentioned ports I would guess.
Do you have any record of a Margaret Hepditch [father Richard Hepditch] who married a James Martin [born abt 1853]? Margaret would have been born abt 1855 based on her daughters birth record in NH. The family immigrated in 1888 with the 3 oldest children, William, Richard and Nellie. They lived in Portsmouth NH and John Martin was listed as a fisherman on one document I have found. James Martin and Margaret Hepditch have their place of birth listed as both Newfoundland and New Brunswick on different US documents. I have located the 1900 US census for them but none of the census in Canada so far.
Thank you, Kris

Hi, I would be interested to know if in your research you happened to know if you had a Christiana M. Hepditch that came from NF that married Andrew Taverner. They had the following children: William Joseph, Walter Henry, Alfred Edward and Daisy. They left NF around the late 1800's without the husband (assume he may have died in NF) they then settled first in Boston, MA and finally in Jersey City, NJ.

Any information on this family will be very helpful.
