My grandfather Clarence was just like her & my father too. if you email me I will give you the link to my Welker web page & will forward pics of Mary & Lizzie , my grandmother liked the one of Lizzie so much circa 1900 she had it colorized (she didnt for my greatgrandfather as she didnt care for him much) Lizzie married twice my greatgrandfather then his cousin Allen Welker, between the four of them there was 17 kids so you have more than one third cousin! hope to hear from you again cynthiamaloney@msn.com Cuz Cindi

Hi Cynthia! Great to find a distant relative. I guess we're third cousins?? I would love to share info also. I have a picture of Mary's second husband, Charles Herb. I would love to see the picture of Mary Ritzman. Also, my mother Gladys Kosier Coles, said Mary always said her middle name was Louise not "Louisa" however on the records I have found, they all have Louisa. I'm not sure if it was a spelling error or not. My mother told me Mary was an interesting woman. She sewed, she hunted and fished and was full of life and always laughing.

Greetings.. my name is James A Herb and found your posting interesting. I am hardly a musician however and was born in 1947 and obviously still alive.

My father was born in Earlington, KY and his family migrated to Montpelier, OH around 1922. Not sure if htere are any connections in the Ohio you reference.

I know the surname of Herb is pretty popular in the PA area.

Herb Bible Records Found

Hello Herb Family,
While traveling through northern Virginia recently, I found an old German Bible at an antique store with Herb family data recorded (in English) inside. Names and dates include Daniel Herb b 21 Mar 1833, Catharine Snyder b 21 May 1831, marriage of Daniel Herb and Catharine Snyder 26 Oct 1851 by Rev. Chr. Neumann; Felix Herb b 17 May 1852, Mary Herb b 6 Aug 1853, Daniel Grant Herb b 30 Sept 1869, Pruella Herb b 25 Feb-d 26 Sept 1863, and several other members of Herb, Snyder and Heimbach families. There are four handwritten pages of marriage/birth/death records.

I have tracked my own family roots for a number of years and know how significant this kind of record can be to anyone tracing and recording a family history. Therefore, I purchased the Bible in order to return it to the family from which it came. Please contact me if interested.

kindest regards,
Elaine L.
Thanks so much for replying! I don't think the dates match...my grandmother was born in 1902ish. It just seemed so coincidental that they have the same name in the same city around the same time. But I'm finding Guenther is fairly common....Do you know her father's sibling names?? Maybe my grandmother decended from one of them....thanks again!

My GGrandparents owned a Bar/Saloon for many years on E.North St. in Buffalo.I do not have info on a Katherine Guenther in the years you mentioned .She could be the daughter of one of my grandmothers brothers ,John or Theodore. Her brother William was a Jesuit Brother . My records do show a Katherine Guenther daug. of Anthony and Elizabeth Guenther born 1878 .Let me know if any of this info makes a connection .

I believe the parents of Thelma were a Daniel Herb and a Elizabeth Wolfgang.. Daniel would have been in the age range of a sibling to your Herb. Perhaps you should check there.
Plese keep me informed about your progress to find more info on Thelma Herb. Since she was from Tower City, PA we may have a family connection. My husband's great-grandmother was Maria (Herb) Woll lived in Orwin which is near Tower City. I also found a reference to her being called Margaret Maria Woll on the death notice for a child who died. She was born about 1870 and died about 1945 at the age of +100. Her husband was John Woll and she had about 10 children. That is all the information I have right now.

Re: Gertrude Herb

Hello,

I know that you wrote requesting information on Gertrude Herb quite some time ago, but I just saw your message on the Ancestry board today (10/30/05). I am actually her grandson on my mother's side - Alice Howard (Herb).

I don't know if you have successfully found much information on Gertrude, but I would be happy to provide as much info as I can. I was very young when she passed away in 1975, but I know quite a bit about her, and of course, my mother and my uncle (Lyman Herb) will have a wealth of information. Both my mother and uncle live in Salem, OR.

It's funny that I ran across your posting because I have recently caught the genealogy bug, and the family on my mother's side with which I have the least amount of information is the Pinnells! Are you related to John Pinnell? I have a John Darin Pinnell born in Alexandria, S.D. in1884 in my genealogy collection, which is the brother of Richard Alfred Pinnell, who is more directly related to me. Richard Pinnell's daughter is Jessie Clarke Pinnell, who is Gertrude Herb's mother. I think I found Richard Pinnell's father to be Joseph Armsted Pinnell, born around 1820 in Kentucky, but I haven't been able to find any more relatives beyond him.

Again, I would be happy to pass on any information about Gertrude to you. I would love to learn more about the Pinnell side as well.

Regards,

Darin Howard
Dundee, OR

Mrs. Sarah Herb - buried on Liberty / Dutch Island, Chatham County, GA.

Hi Folks,

By 1769 Frederick and Ursula Herb had acquired land from John and Isaac Young on what was then known as Providence Island in Christ Church Parish, the colony of Georgia.

Due to the Revolutionary War, the island had its name changed from Providence to Liberty Island. Later, the name changed yet again to Dutch Island.

My distant cousin Dr. Ed Mulligan and I visited Dutch Island last year and found three gravestones still in existence. We were looking for evidence of our Reddick relatives. We did find the headstone and footstone for Sophia Readick Verdell, who was the niece of our ggggg-grandfather John Reddick (sometimes Raddick), a.k.a. Johann Radick II.

Adjacent to Sophia's headstone is one for Mrs. Sarah Herb. Here's the readable inscription of her headstone. The stone has obviously been broken.

"...... of Mrs. Sarah Herb Who was born April 9th 1785 & departed this life on The 8th of November 1802. Aged 17 Years 6 months & 29 days." The first line of the damaged inscription may be "Here rest the remains".

Ed was the one who desciphered the remaining inscription of this memorial's content, as the top of it is missing.

I've included a JPEG image of the headstone for this Mrs. Sarah Herb.

Does anyone know who she was?

Sincerely,

Dale E.
1761 Plat for Frederick Herb in colonial Georgia.

Hi Folks,

My ancestral Radick family had members settle on what is now known as Dutch Island near Savannah, Georgia circa 1754. Adjacent to Dutch Island is Herb Creek, named for the Herb family that settled along it. Just to add to the confusion, the Herbach family was also in that area and there appears to have been a marriage between Peter (Radick) Readick and Catherine Herbach.

Anyhow, my fellow researcher Dot Hope collected a large number of colonial Georgia plats and digitized them. My distant cousin Niles Reddick noticed this one and pointed it out to me. So, I've taken it and cropped it out of the rest of that page of plats. Then, I've reduced it in size to something more easily viewed. I do hope that some part of this proves to be useful to someone.

Colonial Georgia was settled in part by German speaking immigrants of Palatine, Swabian, and Swiss origins. A portion of the latter population were Salzburgers. Also, some portion of the Swiss settlers were French speakers.

Sincerely,

Dale E. Reddick
1823 Plat / Map prepared for Frederick Herb, Jr. and George Herb.

Hi Folks,

In 1823 the brothers Frederick Herb, Jr. and Captain George Herb had a plat / map prepared of their lands and the adjacent Reddick & Gnann lands on Liberty Island in Chatham County, Georgia. Their parents Frederick and Ursula Herb had acquired lands on the island by 1769.

The island was first named Providence Island circa the 1750s.

Then, as a consequence of the Revolutionary War - the island became known as Liberty Island.

Sometime later in the 19th century the island became known as Dutch Island. This was a reference to the German (Deutsch) settlers and families who lived on the island. That is its current name.

ANYHOW - Betty Lee has had a photocopy of the 1823 map for some time. She recently scanned it in four parts and sent it to several of us. Dr. Ed Mulligan took her four separate scanned images and merged them back into a composite image that represents the original map. He then sent it to several of us who have an interest in the island.

So, here's Ed composited image of the island mostly owned by the Herb brothers back in 1823.

I hope that this information proves to be useful to someone.

Dale E. It does begin to appear as though Captain George Herb was married more than once.

Dale
__________________________

Dale,

In Marriages of Chatham County, Georgia 1748-1852, v. 1, p. 56:
From "Georgia Gazette - Columbian Museum and Savannah Advertiser - 1802 ...
Savannah, February 11.

My grandfather Daniel Herb moved to British Columbia with his brothers. He lived in Nelson where my father also Daniel Herb was born in 1915. I was born in Vancouver 1947, my son Taliesin Weylan Herb was born in 1990. I would like to know if there is still any family in Wisconsin and how the family got to Wisconsin.
Wish I would have known about the reunion.
