I have photos of a young James A. Herb, a musician. He was born 1889 in PA or Ohio and died 1962 in Atlanta, GA. He was retired military, serving in both World Wars. I also have a photo of an infant Dorothy Mae Herb, b. May 22, 1921. I don't know location or her relation. James was my maternal grandmother's second husband. Herb Bible Records Found

Hello Herb Family,
While traveling through northern Virginia recently, I found an old German Bible at an antique store with Herb family data recorded (in English) inside. Names and dates include Daniel Herb b 21 Mar 1833, Catharine Snyder b 21 May 1831, marriage of Daniel Herb and Catharine Snyder 26 Oct 1851 by Rev. Chr. Neumann; Felix Herb b 17 May 1852, Mary Herb b 6 Aug 1853, Daniel Grant Herb b 30 Sept 1869, Pruella Herb b 25 Feb-d 26 Sept 1863, and several other members of Herb, Snyder and Heimbach families. There are four handwritten pages of marriage/birth/death records.

I have tracked my own family roots for a number of years and know how significant this kind of record can be to anyone tracing and recording a family history. Therefore, I purchased the Bible in order to return it to the family from which it came. Please contact me if interested.

Hi Folks,

In 1823 the brothers Frederick Herb, Jr. and Captain George Herb had a plat / map prepared of their lands and the adjacent Reddick & Gnann lands on Liberty Island in Chatham County, Georgia. Their parents Frederick and Ursula Herb had acquired lands on the island by 1769.

The island was first named Providence Island circa the 1750s.

Then, as a consequence of the Revolutionary War - the island became known as Liberty Island.

Sometime later in the 19th century the island became known as Dutch Island. This was a reference to the German (Deutsch) settlers and families who lived on the island. That is its current name.

ANYHOW - Betty Lee has had a photocopy of the 1823 map for some time. She recently scanned it in four parts and sent it to several of us. Dr. Ed Mulligan took her four separate scanned images and merged them back into a composite image that represents the original map. He then sent it to several of us who have an interest in the island.

So, here's Ed composited image of the island mostly owned by the Herb brothers back in 1823.

I hope that this information proves to be useful to someone.

Hi Folks,

By 1769 Frederick and Ursula Herb had acquired land from John and Isaac Young on what was then known as Providence Island in Christ Church Parish, the colony of Georgia.

Due to the Revolutionary War, the island had its name changed from Providence to Liberty Island. Later, the name changed yet again to Dutch Island.

My distant cousin Dr. Ed Mulligan and I visited Dutch Island last year and found three gravestones still in existence. We were looking for evidence of our Reddick relatives. We did find the headstone and footstone for Sophia Readick Verdell, who was the niece of our ggggg-grandfather John Reddick (sometimes Raddick), a.k.a. Johann Radick II.

Adjacent to Sophia's headstone is one for Mrs. Sarah Herb. Here's the readable inscription of her headstone. The stone has obviously been broken.

"...... of Mrs. Sarah Herb Who was born April 9th 1785 & departed this life on The 8th of November 1802. Aged 17 Years 6 months & 29 days." The first line of the damaged inscription may be "Here rest the remains".

Ed was the one who desciphered the remaining inscription of this memorial's content, as the top of it is missing.

I've included a JPEG image of the headstone for this Mrs. Sarah Herb.

Does anyone know who she was?

Hi Folks,

My ancestral Radick family had members settle on what is now known as Dutch Island near Savannah, Georgia circa 1754. Adjacent to Dutch Island is Herb Creek, named for the Herb family that settled along it. Just to add to the confusion, the Herbach family was also in that area and there appears to have been a marriage between Peter (Radick) Readick and Catherine Herbach.

Anyhow, my fellow researcher Dot Hope collected a large number of colonial Georgia plats and digitized them. My distant cousin Niles Reddick noticed this one and pointed it out to me. So, I've taken it and cropped it out of the rest of that page of plats. Then, I've reduced it in size to something more easily viewed. I do hope that some part of this proves to be useful to someone.

Colonial Georgia was settled in part by German speaking immigrants of Palatine, Swabian, and Swiss origins. A portion of the latter population were Salzburgers. Also, some portion of the Swiss settlers were French speakers.

I am researching Edna Julia Herb. She was born about 1910 is St. Louis County, Missouri. Her parents are Gustave Herb and Shopia Wagner Herb. The only sibling I know of is Richard. Edna married Jennings Bryan "Virgil" Devine in 1933. They moved to Calfornia sometime between 1933 and 1950. Any information is appreciated.

JACKSONVILLE -- Robert Edward Lee Herb, 84, of Jacksonville, a former DeLeon Springs resident, died Monday at Florida Hospital-DeLand. Mr. Herb, an Army veteran of World War II, where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, was born in Macon, Ga. He retired as an office assistant for Georgia Pacific. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruby; two daughters, Caroline Duvall, DeLand, and Susan Brown, Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Claire Devlin Herb, 87, of San Diego died March 26. She was born in Medford, Mass., and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughters, Carolie Miller of San Jose and Pamela Silver of Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

No services were planned.

A scattering of ashes at sea was planned.

For many years Marie played the piano at the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio. She was predeceased by her sister Lottie Hazel Herb "Babe", who had been her longtime companion, and by two brothers, Frank J. Herb and William Herb. I am looking for the descendants of Edna Herb and Jennings Bryan Devine aka Virgil. Aunt Edna and Uncle Bryan were married in 1932 in Missouri. In the 1950's they lived in California. Uncle Bryan died in 1956 and Aunt Edna died less than a year later. If my information is correct there should be a son and two daughters.

My dad was raised in Montpelier, Ohio where he moved at a very young age. I know he was born in Earlington, KY. His parents name's are Raymond and Sophia. He had the following siblings, John, Ray, Elizabeth, Margaret, Bud.

My dad, also James, is the sole survivor. He was born in 1920.

All the information I have is that she married a man named William Albert Goodbread or Christie , not sure about his last name but he worked for a railroad. Sara or Sarah Died giving birth to my Grandmother in June 1921. My Grandmother birth name was Blanche Lousie Goodbread or Christie. We only know of 2 of her siblings William and Samual. they know there was more but not sure how many.There is no Birth Certificate to get because the building it was stored in burned down.

I am looking for the following Herb family: John Herb DOB 1877 and Flossie Morrison DOB 1878. Children were: James, Goldie, Alfaratta, Florence and Walter. Flossie's parents were Oliver and Rosetta Morrison. Flossie's sister was Moetta Butz Morrision.

My grandmother was Moetta Butts (Butz). She had sisters names Alfarasa and Florence. Their father was Philip Butts from Warren County, NJ, which was the same place the Morrision family came from.

I am sure there must be a connection and am looking for the ancestor we have in common!

I am looking for information on Susanna Herb - she married Johann Conrad Lorsbach in Montgomery, PA (Falckner Swamp Reformed Congregation, New Hanover Township) on Nov 17, 1748. Any information would be appreciated. I haven't yet found any records of children but there were three or four (we believe Henry to be our descendent). She also had a child by Georg Gabel in 1762.

I am looking for information on my g-grandfather
William Herb. He married Wilhelmena Haas and they
lived in Alton, IL. My grandmother, Amelia Herb
was born March 7, 1876 in Alton, IL. Her death
certificate states her father, William Herb was
born in Wuettemburg, Germany. I may have found a
death on him in Alton, IL in 1883. There are two
William Herbs listed in the Alton Cemetery. I know
he died when my grandmother was a child. Her mother
remarried to a man named Stumberg. Would appreciate
