Gottlieb Herber in ND and WI

Looking for info on Gottlieb Herber who come to the US via Canada from Russia in 1909. Brought with him wife Anna Brach, and children Katherine and Gottlieb Jr. They farmed around Alsen ND, and had three more kids, David, Ediwn and Elizabeth. 1930 census shows them all in ND but not sure where the parents went from there. Gottlieb Jr. married Lorina Wipf and then Alberta May Bassingthwaite and died in Alsen in 1936. David was a pilot in WW II and buried at Ft. Snelling, MN. A Gottlieb Herber of about the same age as Gottlieb Sr appears in Sheboygen WI but I can't connect them as the same person. Any help or ideas??

Thanks!
-Kim-

Personal Property found for Mary A. Herber

Recently, at a Trade Day in Scottsboro, Alabama, I found and purchased a small item of personal property that has a handwritten address located inside it. That address shows, quote: "Mary A. Herber, Buinfield Road, Fiskdale, Mass."

Since the 1970s, I have been working (minutes at the time) on genealogy research on about 20-30 surnames in my ancestry to, someday, publish a book of my family data. I purchased the Mary A. Herber item hoping that I could, on-line, find one of her descendants -- to give it to.

If you are a descendant (or a relative) of this lady from Massachusetts, please e-mail me and I will send this property to you. I purchased it only because I know "what a treasure" such a thing would be "to me" if it were from one of my ancestors!

I pray that "someone who will treasure this item" sees this post. May God Bless and Keep You and Your Family!

Doris Cooley Edmonds

Carl,
I believe my father, still living, age 92,was a nephew to Mary Catherine Peil.(I didn't know her name was also Meier) When my father came to the US, from Russia, the family stayed in Shattuck,OK, with the Jake Herber family. I know Jake had a brother George, who was a minister in Nebraska. Jake moved to California in the Scramento Valley. My father visited him there, and Jake visited my father in Bay City, MI. My fathers mother was Margarett Young (Yung). Her sister was Katharina Elizabeth Young (Yung) - the wife of Jakob Herber. They were sponsors for my fathers family to come to the US. Also my father has often talked of his Aunt Mary, who I thought lived in Texas.
I would be glad to ask my father about his relatives if you wish.
E-mail me at cpeil@aol.com
Carl Peil

What you are saying makes sense. I think your Dad and my Dad were first cousins. My Dad always referred to Jake as his cousin. A George Herber I knew ran a store in Darouzett. I did not connect him and Jake as I only saw him one time when I was about 8 years old -- is this the same George? Let me check on the Lipscomb History book. I may have the section yiou are referring to. I have a book published by the Lipscomb County Historical Society title "The Other Germans" that is about the Germans from Russia. If you dont have that, I would be happy to send you a copy.

I belive Jake Herber, and George Herber were his first cousins. There mother was a sister to my grandmother Margarett Young , b. 3-30-1881, Rudic, Russia, - d. 4-9-1939, Bay City, MI. In Texas they spell the name, Yung.
Do you have a copy of the book, The History of Lipscomb County Texas? If not I can send you a copy of the pages that have the Herber families. They have Jakob Sr., and Jake Herber, and some Peil's, and Meier's in this book. Let me know if you are interested.
Carl Peil.
Carl,
I am at my office now, so will email you from the house this evening. I have a wedding picture that has a number of Peils in it along with others unidentified.

My blood grandmother (Peil) Meier died shortly after my father was born in 1917. I do have a couple of pictures of her, also. One standing beside her younger brother who is seated.

Since names recurr, I'm not sure who is who -- but when I lived in California 1973-1976, I visited Jake Herber in Grimes Calif, who was my dad's "cousin". I frankly wasn't sure if he was blood related or not, but it didn't seem to matter. His wife fixed Salmon about 5 different ways for supper that night. It was outstanding!
I appreciate the note and will email later.

Tammy,
I know there a lot of occurences of George, Mary, etc, in the family tree, but I think the Fred Herber in your message is my "adopted" grandfater. He had a brother in Darrouzett, Lipscomb Co, Tx, named George who operated a store (my father, Emmert, bought me a pair of boots there when I was about 8 years old.The Shaneholts name may be spelled Schoenhals, as some of my relatives have that name. My father was a Meier (born in Shattuck Okla), but was "adopted" by his Aunt Mary Uncle Fred Herber after his mother Mary Catherine (Piel)Meier died.
