Mary Ellen Herdman
MARGARETVILLE — Mary Ellen "Midge" Herdman of Old Route 28, Margaretville, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at home.
She was born Aug. 13, 1925, in Bushnellsville, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Olive Frasier White.
Midge was a lifelong area resident. She and her late husband, Kenneth, who was the caretaker of Winnisook Club, lived at the club at the base of Slide Mountain, for more than 40 years. She has been a resident of Margaretville for the past nine years.
Mrs. Herdman had been employed as ward clerk at the Margaretville Hospital for 30 years. She was an avid bowler and a past member of the Big Indian/Oliverea Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving is a daughter, Jane Cable of Big Indian; a son, Kenneth C. Herdman of Shandaken; a sister, Beatrice Every of St. Remy; three grandchildren, Christopher Cable, Trevor Lee Herdman and Emily Ellen Herdman; and two great-grandchildren, Katherine Cable and Katlyn Lee Bennett.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 20, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, Main Street, Phoenicia, with the Rev. Ralph Darmstadt officiating. Burial to follow in Shandaken Rural Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
