I live in San Antonio, Texas. I do not know Emilio, but I will ask my father Roberto Heredia Jr. if he knows Emilio Heredia. There are many Heredia's that I do not know personally from my grandfather's brother side, Jesus Heredia.

Allen, I'm the daughter of the Prof. That was Manuel Heredia, Jr., my dad. He was also called "Manny". I have been trying to find out about the Heredia's, too. The information I have isn't complete, but it may help you.

Matilde/Matilda was married to Manuel. Her name was Matilde Mas y Rivera.

The children were our 2 fathers, Alice, Mary, Elsie, Richard, James, Joseph and a name that I think is a woman's name - Sayito. Would you know about that person?

You can email me at treasurega@gmail.com

What was your mother's maiden name?

LEALs / DE HEREDIAs with Spanish Gipsy background

Whilst searching the database of the Archive of the Indies for individuals with the surname LEAL (see my message - http://genforum.genealogy.com/leal/messages/377.html), I came across an individual with the surname LEAL who seems to have had a Gipsy background.

LEAL, Jorge migrated from the quarter of Triana in Seville (Andalucia) in Spain to La Habana in Cuba on 13 March 1602. The record in the archive mentions explicitly that Jorge was a Gipsy. Jorge was married to HERNANDEZ, Magdalena. They had two sons who accompanied them when they sailed to Cuba: DE HEREDIA, Fabian and DE HEREDIA, Sebastian. Jorge was a blacksmith. They all sailed as part of the group that accompanied DE VALDEZ, Pedro who the records mention as Governor (I assume the new Governor to Cuba).

This information may be of interest for LEALs / DE HEREDIAs who have unconfirmed information that they have Gipsy ancestry. If you have or believe you have, please share this information on this forum.

Oscar Leal
May 2008

Son Frank Paul Heredia was born 1905 Las Cruces, New Mexico; other known children were Sam, Mary and Julia, and possibly other children. When children were young, there was a house fire (date and place unknown) and Rosenda and Domicio perished. If you are related to Domicio or Rosend, please contact me.
Dear Antonio,

Would you be willing to share more with me about your research on the Heredia name as it relates to the expulsion of Jewish peple from Spain? I am looking into my possible Sephardic ancestry.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Best regards,
Genève Gil
descendant of José María Heredia y Heredia, 19th century Cuban poet.

RE:

On the name heredia, a lot of the research i have been doing has either taken me to costa rica, where there is also a town with the name heredia, or to the late 1400 to early 1500 when spain and portugal were kicking the jewish people out of their countries (after haveing been kicked out of rome about 50 to 100 years earlier). One of the names brought to the new worlds (north/south america and islands) was heredia and was taken from some noble family in spain and brought here with the jews. anyway there's some info i've found, what have you got? thanks for your reply and i hope to hear from you soon. thanks again. http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.heredia/17.23.29.30/mb.a...

If you want to know about the Heredia Family. I know a little about this family and the one thing that I know is that on this side of the Heredia we all look alike. In Jayuya you will find family and as well as in Ponce. Las Carmelitas or Los Hogares Seguro is where some of the Heredia Family still live deep in the mountain of Jayuya. Good Luck....Diana Heredia

I've been searching for the Heredia Family for several years now and the only thing that I hit was my long lost brother living only a couple of hours away from me. I can say that the only thing is that the Heredia Family is a unique name and a extremely large family group. Going back in time is very difficult and too many secrets along the way. I know that family that I have talked to still until this day still carry that secret which is hard to break. The only information that I can give you is that Heredia name originated from Spain from a very noble family. Then time and things have change since then. I'm sorry that I was not able to give you any mor info but good luck in your search.

NEW DATA ON FRANK PAUL HEREDIA

Please Help - Frank Paul Heredia was a baby or very young child when their house burned in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and his parents were killed in the fire. He was born 1905 Las Cruces. He and siblings (Mary Heredia, Sam Heredia and Julia Heredia) were sent to live with a family in Oklahoma (name yet unknown) and Frank was sent to the Chilocco Indian School in Kay, Oklahoma. HIS last name also may have been: Frank Paul "Chapman" and the family he was sent to live with may have been "Heredia". I am helping a lady who has never known her father, as he passed away, and she is in dire need to know her family (relatives, his parents and to find his siblings). His sister Julia Heredia was either married to a gentleman with lastname Martinez or living with him. Please E-Mail me at: kiddscott2734@aol.com with any information. Thank You. Hazel

My husband has been doing a search for my great grandmother's true heritage. My grandmother frequently told me that my great grandmother was a Native American. What do you know about her heritage? I have an additional reason to want her to be a Native American because my son is graduating with a degree in microbiology in Dec.. He would receive a scholarship for medical school if he could prove his ancestry.
Thank you for your input/help
Deborah Ballard
