Hi,

My e mail address is jo@foxbadger4648.fsnet.co.uk. Delighted to have found a Herford in the USA. I have been looking for a long time.

Have loads of information to impart but this needs more time than I have to spare just now. As a taster your 3 x grandmother was Sarah Hutchings and she married Thomas in 1852 at the Parish Church of Clayhidon in Devon. I have a copy of their marriage certificate and photographs of the church. (which my husband and I have visited). If you wish to go into further detail perhaps you could let me have your e mail address so we can correspond direct.

Jo Herford

I am researching your line of the Herford family. I have a letter dated 1961 from your great grandfather William to my father in law James Edward Herford. He gives information about his sons William Louis, Elmer Howard and daughter Cecelia. He also mentions his grandchildren Richard and Christine. I also have details of your great grandfathers siblings and their emigration records from Ellis Island. I can trace the family back in the UK to circa 1800. and would be pleased to exchange information if you are interested.

Jo Herford

I am looking for Ruth Herford later married unknown as of yet, then married my great grandfather Sam Butler, had one child with him name Clayton Butler, was told that he had red hair? Also she had children from the previous husband, said that one son died in the WWII and she died shortly after. Was told that she lost her mind after the son was killed. Does this sound familiar. Or do you have these names.

My gggrandfather was Frederick Herfort, who shows on the Censuses that he was born 1814 in Bremen, Hannover, Germany. I have found him in 1861 in New York City and by 1870 he and his family had moved to Long Island (Hicksville - then Queens County, now Nassau). His wife was Caroline and I have traced his children, but haven't yet discovered his or his wife's date of death or where buried to gain further information on ancestors.

Linda Clark

The time frame is very close. Apparently
grampa lived in New York and then in
Wisconsin and Tennessee before homesteading
in Nebraska. Records show he was from
Wojethin Pomeron, a province of Northern
Germany bordering the Baltic Sea. We have
letters from a August Herford fromaround 1880,
but have
found no one that is able to translate this
particular dialect. Grampas name was actually
Ferdinand but changed it to Frederick and
changed the Herford to Hartford. Please feel
free to email at home. vichart@uswest.net.
Thanks Vic

My family (gg-gf Herford) came to North America in the 1860/70's from Germany. I can't find records of arrival, but they did live in Buffalo, NY for a while. Parts of the family then moved on the western PA and Elmira, NY. Rumor has it that the immigrants changed their name to HERFORTH to leave Germany (Schleswig-Holstein, and Stettin). Would any of this info fit in with your family? I have not yet tried to research European end until I can confirm American part.

I have a Sam Butler in my family. I only know that he was the brother of my Great Grandfather Elton Oliver Butler. At the time of my Great Grandfather's death, 2/6/1965, they lived in Baxley, GA. This is all the information I have on the Sam Butler in my family.

Jim Butler

Grave Info on a "MARY HERRIFORD JACOBS" "HERFORD"?

While searching for my own Jacobs and Farmer ancestors, I came across this Mary. I found her in the Troup County Archives (LaGrange, GA) web site.

There was no Herriford message board, so I'm posting it here just in case her maiden name was spelled wrong in the data. It's a shot in the dark, but worth the try if this Mary belongs to you.

Web site: http://www.trouparchives.org

Go to the web site, click on the 'cemetery databases' link. Type in the surname: Jacobs, only. You'll find your Mary there in the information displayed.

I hope this helps someone.

Thanks,........... TJ
