Classification: Query
William Heritage died of smallpox (Variola on the death certificate) in Brynmawr, Brecknockshire (now in Gwent) in 1857 leaving two daughters, Mary Ann born in the Blackwood area of Monmouthshire in 1855, and Sophia, born in Garnfach near Nantyglo, Monmouthshire in 1857. Their mother was Harriet Ann Davies. I cannot find a marriage certificate for William and Harriet and assume they may not have married.
On the 1861 census both girls were in the Union workhouse in Kington, Hereford with the surname Davies. On leaving in their teens they both took their father's name of Heritage, and I know their subsequent histories.
I cannot find a death or re marriage record for Harriet Davies/Heritage.
Mary Ann's name on her birth certificate was Heritage in 1855 and her father was a railway labourerin the Blackwood area (Rock, Bedwellty). Sophia's name was also Heritage on her birth certificate in 1857 and her father was then an iron miner in the Brynmawr area.
Does anyone know how I could find William's origins, please? Or Harriet's?
