Re: HERMAN/HERMANN from Prussia

Hope you are still out there looking for Hermann relatives. Do you know anything more about Katherina Hermann? like approximate birth year? the mountain side or the meadow side of the Volga? I have unsuccessfully been searching for more details about my great-great grandfather, Friederich Hermann. I think he was born about 1850s in Laub, Russia. I do have a picture of him. He married a woman named Marie Elisabeth Schwabenland. They were both alive in 1905/6. My grandmother came to America with her parents, and didn't hear anything more about them. So, I don't know how long they lived, and/or if they were sent also to another colony during the revolution. Any help you can offer will be appreciated. I will be posting family pictures on Ancestry during this month. Linda Duffield

Boy, I really hope you still wander through these boards from time to time.

I have recently discovered that my ancestor's name was August Hermann. (I had always thought it was Charles.) His wife's name was Mary. They were married around 1884. My great-grandfather, William, was born in 1886. He married Katherine Roller.

August and Mary lived in Appleton until at least 1910, then I think they moved to Minnesota and William moved to Racine, WI.

Frederick HERRMANN (or HERMANN) born c1834 in France > Verona, Oneida County, NY

I recently found an old envelope that Frederick HERRMANN (or HERMANN) of Vernon Center, Oneida County, NY of received from Colmar, France in 1864. You can see the envelope on www.philgen.org (search on Vernon, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page). I want to determine if Colmar, France is the birthplace of Frederick HERRMANN and if this envelope is helpful to someone in their genealogical research. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

Would like to connect with any descendants of the Eckart/Eckhard HERMANN family who moved from Pennsylvania around 1860 and settled in Goodhue County, Minnesota. Children were Heinrich (Henry John), George and Gustav (August). There may also have been a girl. I believe both Henry and George stayed in Minnesota. Gustav m Ingeberg Paasch and eventually moved his family to Seattle, Washington. Census records indicate the parents came from Prussia. I haven't been able to find where in Pennsylvania they were before coming to Minnesota. Eckart may have immigrated with others in his family, so would like to hear also from anyone with Pennsylvania roots.

Thanks.
Janice

Hermann in Tiefenbach, Baden, Germany

I have ancestors from Tiefenbach, Baden, Germany near Eichelberg. Sometimes Teifenbach was written as Diefenbach.

My ancestors are Maria Margaretha Hermann, baptized January 13, 1686 (which would have had her born in January 1686 or late 1685). Her parents were Joannes Georgius Hermann and Margaretha Schosfer, they were married in Tiefenbach May 2, 1673. I know that both were born prior to 1656 as they are not on the baptism records and that is the earliest baptism recordings for the town/church.

Maria Margaretha married Joannes Schiling (later Schilling) of Grunbach (unsure if it is a Grunbach, Germany or Grunbach, Austria) in 1711, Tiefenbach.

I am trying to go further back than the information I have on microfilms. If anyone has this family in any of your family records, would you please let me know. I have not researched siblings for Maria Margaretha yet, but if you have Hermann ancestors from Teifenbach, or even Eichelberg, then chances are they are related.

I believe Margaretha Schosfer had 3 sisters or 3 cousins: Anna Eva Schosfer, Anna Maria Schosfer, and Catharina Schosfer.

I don't know yet about Joannes Georgius Hermann. Some relatives (siblings or cousins) are:
Joannes Hermann who married Ursula Bellinger in 1664 or 1665, Tiefenbach.
Barbara Hermann who married Andreas Ricker (sp?) in 1666, Tiefenbach.
Maria Hermann who married M. Georgius Appalt on Feb. 8, 1667, Tiefenbach.
Agnete (Agnes) Hermann who married Joannes Wolfgangus Heispel also on Feb. 8, 1667, Tiefenbach.
Maria Hermann who married Joannes Jacobus Keim on February 17, 1670, Tiefenbach.

I really need help in placing this woman and her husband. Does anyone know her ancestors? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Rena Herman, the daughter of a carpenter, was born in Missouri. Rena became a music teacher and married Tom Mooney in 1911. Over the next few years the couple were members of the Socialist Party of America and were active in local trade union activities.
Thomas "Tom" Joseph Mooney (December 8, 1882–March 6, 1942) was an American labor leader in San Francisco, who famously spent 22½ years in prison for a crime he did not commit, the Preparedness Day Bombing of 1916.

Thank you,
Hazel
maverick42@bellsouth.net
I have a Hermann family who were somewhere in PA before moving to Minnesota. The parents came from Prussia according to MN census records. I have 3 sons listed as born in PA: Heinrich 1847, George 1850, and Gustave 1855. The father was Eckert/Eckland (the census was very difficult to read) bc1816, mother was Elizabeth bc1824. They would have immigrated sometime pre-1847.

Have you noticed these names in any research in your area?

Thanks.
Hi, I just happened upon a post you had made about Hermann Family relatives in Stark Co.

My great grandfather was Herman H. Hermann b. 1884, my grandmother was Geraldine E. Hermann b. 1921 in Canton, Ohio.

I know Herman's father was James Hermann b. abt. 1836 in Germany, immigrated abt. 1846-1860, married Elizabeth Baus.

I haven't found much family for James, to connect him; brothers, sisters parents etc., if you know of anything I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Krys

Hi, Eileen,

Erfurt and Zillbach are less than 60 miles apart, so it's a possibility. I don't know any brothers or sisters, except I assume that Wilhelm Kummer was Dorothea's brother, but I do have their parents' names. Dorothea Elisabetha Herrmann (I now think that this was the original spelling of the name), was born 1843 in Zillbach to Gottfried Kummer and Ottilie Tischer. Johann Christian Bernhard Herrmann, born 1850 in Zillbach, had parents Johann Friedrich Herrmann and Anna Barbara Elisabetha Fleischmann. I don't know anything about where or when the parents were born, and the older church records in Zillbach were destroyed by water and mold.

Does this information match up with anything you know?

Susan

Hello everyone!

I'm trying to look for information about an Andreas Hermann. I know very little about him. He was born in the late 1800's in either Germany or Austria (not sure, but he spoke German and had a German name so we assume he was). He fought in World War One, mostly in Serbia. He settled in a small farming town called Pancota in South-Western Transylvania. He then married and had eleven children. Only three of them made it to adulthood; Andras (who was killed in World War Two), Ferenc, and Mihaly. The latter two immigrated to Canada around 1930. They owned a resturant called the Black Rooster and had a small vineyard. Unfortunately, that's all the information I have. If any of it matches your, please contact me. Thank you.

-Andrea

Hello Andrea,

My Grandmothers maiden name was also Hermann. She came from the area in Hungary, Yugoslavia & Romania called Banat.

The Queen of Hungary once invited Germans to settle in Hungary some time in the 1500’s. The valley where they settled was a very fertile area and many German communities grew in that area right up to the Second World War.

I am not an expert on this area but I did find some information on the village you named:

Pankota
Village Names:
German: Pankota
Official: Pâncota
Hungarian: Pancota
Spelling and/or dialect variants: Pîncota

Location:
Country: Romania
36km NE of Arad
Postal Code: 2911

Railroad station: Pîncota

Population:
1977: 5746
1930: 5235 (22.4% Germans)
1910: 5607 (25.9% Germans)

Genealogical Records:
Records also in Hellburg
Village name in FHL records: Pankota, Pincota, Pancota
Church records available at FHL: Christenings 1787-1852, Marriages 1787-1852, Deaths 1787-1852
FHL Microfilm Nr. 1190327, 1190368
Church records available at IfA, Stuttgart: same years as above

Miscellaneous:
Founded: 1754
Bibliography

You will see above the microfilms that are available from the FHL Family History Library of the Church of Later Day Saints. There is probably a center in your area that would order these films for you and have readers so you can view them should you want to. The years copied seem to fit your search.

The Banat area also has many family books that were written by a man called Stadler (sp). I will give you a link to another Roots site that deals with the Banat area.

These people are very helpful and friendly and a great resource.

To post a message to the BANAT mailing list, send an email to BANAT@rootsweb.com

good luck, Mark

Hi Kathy,

I know Walburga Hermann. She traveled on ship Berlin from Bremen/Southampton/Baltimore in September 1872.

With her a lot of other people from the same area:
Isidor Ziegelmueller
Therese Vogelsang
Markus Behringer
Anton Strauss
Josefa Eireiner and son Johann

You will find them in the database www.ries-a.de. We want to know more about the descendents of all those people, where did they lived and so.

If you want, I'm knowing a man, which is researching in Megesheim for a family book. Maybe he want to help you against a little few. The origin church books are in Eichstaett and not microfilmed!

regards from the other side of the pond
Manuela
