Hello Peter,
Don't know if you found the Ohio Theresa Heiting? There are many posting for Hermsen in Ohio, if you start from the community tab and work down the list from there.

You live in a very nice part of the country. I visited there for a weekend several years back looking for Hermsen. Found one in the area by they had no family history.

I grow up in Little Chute Wisconsin, where many families emmigrated to from Holthees.

Regards,
Jim Kandler (Mother is a Hermsen)

I am one of the Carroll County Hermsens. I am not sure I know the answers to all your questions. The John B. Hermsen that became a State Representative was my Grandfather. He was the son of Herman who remarried Emily (Katherine)Cretsinger. I believe Herman was the son of Johannes Herman and Maria (Anna Aleid) Helena Schulten. Johannes was the son of Gerhard Johann and Anna Helena Mensen. Gerhard Johann was the son of Johann Heinrich Hermsen and Anna Nee Lensing. Yes, John B. and Frank were brothers and lived in Carroll their whole lives. The names get confusing because there seems to be a number of people named Gerhard and Johann. I wonder if names got turned around sometimes. I think my Great Grandfather, Herman and Gerhard were twin brothers. I think they had a brother Albert that moved to Council Bluffs. I don't know any more than that. Some of the above information is not quite consistent with your information. I may be wrong. I am sort of new of this. Where do you find the census information? I would love to communicate more.

Shelly,
My mother, Winifred Hermsen, is descended from Henry Hermsen. That family went to Tacoma, Washington. Henry's brother, Christian, stayed in Wisconsin. The Hermsens in Brown County and Holland County descend from him.
Christian Hermsen (b.12/25/1833 in Nutterden, Rhine Province Germany) married Petronella Steltjes (b. 2/15/1843 in Frasselt, Rhine Province, Germany) on 4/16/1866 in Frasselt. They had ten children, all born in Brown County, Wisconsin. The sixth child, John Christian, was born in De Pere on 12/20/1877.
John Christian Hermsen married Georgiana Duquette (b. 9/1880 in De Pere) in 1898. This couple had eight children, all born in De Pere. Their fifth child, Lucille E., was born on April 1, 1909.
Lucille married Herman Johnson on 10/21/1926. The couple had four children: Marilyn, Karen Mae,John (b.11/21/1927), Jerard Jerome (b.10/19/1933). They divorced in 1950.
Lucille remarried on 12/28/1967. Her second husband was Chester Barlament.
Lucille died in July 1990.
That is the extent of what I know directly about Lucille Hermsen. I do have much other information about her brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts, and great uncles and great aunts. If you have any specific request, I would be happy to answer it if I am able.
Best regards, Bob Willis

Jimj, Hopefully you get this before the reunion of the Hermsens. I am still looking for a picture of the Hermsens.
My great grandmother was Mary, daughter of George(Gerard)b Dec 1821 and Elizabeth (Guerts/Garret) Hermsen. Her siblings were Peter, Gertrude, John, George, Hannah, and Martin. The first three were born before coming to the USA in 1855.I am looking for ship information and pictures if possible. They lived on the property just north of Simons cheese factory. My great-grandfather John Vandenheuvel married Mary Hermsen. He built the house that stands there now. He built his house in front of the Hermsen house. My grandfather was born in that house.
Pictures and information is what I hope to find. Mike

Theresa Hermsen 1844 - 1920

Searching for information about people with my name Heitling in the US, especially Cincinnati, Ohio, I found a Theresa Heitling-HERMSEN, born 1844 in Germany, died probably March 23, 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was married with Clemens Heitling and had one child: Lizzie (Elisabeth) born 1872 in Ohio. In the death-announcement of Clemens Heitling in 1894 the “child” was married with Joseph Miller, but her own family-name was mentioned SASSE. So it is probable, that she was a child of an earlier marriage of Theresa Heitling-Hermsen with some Sasse.
Is there any Hermsen who knows something about Theresa?
Maybe I can give some help to Hermsen. I live in the Netherlands near Holthees / Boxmeer / Vierlingsbeek, where the mentioned Holland-Hermsen came from and not so far from Nutterden / Donsbruggen / Frasselt, where German Hermsen came from.
You can also contact me at peter@heitling.nl .

I'd like to know how our ancestors connect to Gerardus HERMSEN.
Which Robert W. Hermsen are you telling me is related to the Green Bay Hermsen's because I know that my husband, Robert W. Hermsen is to Arnoldus (Arnold), Heinrich Johannes and Christian Hermsen and that Arnold arrived in New York in 1866 aboard the ship "The Agnus" and that his destination was Wisconsin according to ship's passenger list. I know there are two Robert W. Hermsen's with oddly the same birth data. I know this because while my husband was in the Army he was nearly sent on the other Hermsen's assignment. They never met but if there had not been different social security numbers the Army may have sent my husband somewhere the family could not have gone. We are now in AZ and the other Robert W. Hermsen is in California. Are both related to Gerardus HERMSEN?
We know that there is a large Hermsen Family in Iwoa BUT are they related to our Hermsen's?
Hi Mike,
The reunion was great. We also have several in Hermsen on our branch. I have not been able to locate passage or further information in Holland. The pictures would be interesting if you can get them copied or scanned.

Jim

Hermsen in Green Bay Area

I just attended our Hermsen Family Reunion for this past year. In Little Chute,
Wisconsin, just down the road from De Pere. We get together every 2 years. There were 60 in attendance.
There were 2 other Hermsen Families having reunions that same day. These
are all part of the original immigrant that settled in Little Chute. We
estimated that there were over 300 Hermsen descendants in Little Chute that
day.

Gerardus HERMSEN, b December 09, 1821, Holthees, Noord-Branbant,
Netherlands. Married Elizabeth GUERTS, b September 02, 1819, Boxmeer,
Noord-Branbant, Netherlands. They were married, in Boxmeer, then
immigrated between 1853 - 1857 with 3 children. The children's names are
Peter, Gertrude, John, Gerardus, Johannes, and Martin. Those born before
immigration were born in Vierlingbeck. I am told that it was the custom to
name children after the Aunt's and Uncles, so we can guess that these are
continuing family names.

You should also contact "Robert W. Hermsen" He has relatives in Green Bay.

Regards,
Jim Kandler

Thank you--I have more information since i posted this--but not enough. I am searching for the family of Mary Hermsen. She married my great Grandfather John Peter van den Heuvel. I beleive her parents were Gerad Hermsen(b 9 Dec 1821) and Elizabeth Geurts(b2 Sep 1818), both born in Holland. Mary was born 1 Dec 1865 in Little Chute, and died 22 Nov 1950 in Little Chute. She married John, 8 May 1888.
I was in Two Rivers in Sept. While there I met some Hermsens of German descent at an Orphain train Reunion. I am sorry i did not keep their information handy. I wonder if you may be related to them.
I would love to eschange information with you. By the way, if you are familiar with Simons cheese factory in/ near Little Chute, then the first house to the north of them is where John and Mary lived. My grandfather Martin was born there.
Jim, I have reread your information over again. I am very much interested in the Hermsen line to help complete my family history. Thanks for all you have sent to date. I appreciate it. I am continuinmg to look for the immigration information. have you had any luck or have you pursued dates, ship names, naturalization of the Hermsens? I am going to look, but do not want to double up on information already obtained. The other day I recieved in the mail, from an unknown person in Wisconsin, a picture of my grandfather(at about 7 or 8 yrs old) and his family(including his mother, Mary Hermsen)Previously I had only seen him as an adult and her at an advanced age. The picture was taken at thier home that was located the first house north of Simons Cheese factory.A thriil to get the picture--I just wish I knew who sent it.Mike

I assume you mean 1865 Dec for the Birth of Mary. And yes she is my great grandmother--Her parents were George(Gerard)Hermsen and Elizabeth Geurts(sometimes Gerrits etc)
