Amelia Hero

Amelia Hero b. jan 1854 married my GG Grandpa. His name has shown up as Thomas and William and Wm. I have asked my mamaw but she dosent remember her Grandfathers first name. From what I can put together it looks like Amelia Married my GG grandpa thomas william ( not sure which name is correct records show both) Donlon. They had 5 kids Wm, b. app 1876 Charles, b. app. 1877, Julius b. app. 1881, Mary , b. app. 1883 Amelia, b. app. 1883. I don't know how mary amelia were born on the same year. these dates are according to the 1900 cenusus. I don't know if my GG grandpas died or if the were divorced. but in 1886 amelia marries Thomas Mcnally. As of the 1900 cencus Amelia and Thomas Mcnally lived in Louisville Ky and had been married 11 years. All 5 of Amelia's children live in the house and the census has the last name as Donlow not Donlon. There is an additonal HERO in the house by the name of Ceaser Hero and his is 26. I assume he is Ameilas family maybe a nephew or very young brother because Amelia is 46 in 1900. Ceaser's parents are listed as being from germany but Amelias are not. I have got my brain around it all yet. Just wanted to add some infor to the hero page. Julius Donlon married Anna Vicotria Horan. Anna Marie was one of their children, she married my grandpa Elmer A. Thomas had 3 kids one of my father james Joseph Thomas. James married my mother Judith ann neel and they had me, Virginia Lynn Reese

Hello and thank you for replying to my inquiry. I am so delighted to discover some information about the surname Hero. Is this an unusual name in Sweden? Might we have relatives in common? The Hero name is connected to my
maternal grandfather, Karl Forsberg, born in Hallesfors, Sweden. Again, thank you very much for the information.
Best regards,
Cassandra

HERO surname in Sweden

I am searching for my paternal GGM whose name was Carolina Hero (also written as Carolina or Karolina Hero Andersdotter) who came from Hallefors, Sweden, born in the 1850's. She married Viktor Forsberg. They moved to Karlstaad and had 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters. Sons names: Karl, Herman, Emil (all musicians; Karl emigrated to US 1926); daughters' names unknown. Herman Forsberg and Emil Forsberg remained in Sweden. I believe Herman Forsberg died in the late 1970's; Emil Forsberg may have died in late 1960's. Anyone with any information about this family is welcomed to write to me. I am interested also in learning information about the surname HERO. Thanks and hope to hear from you and find some long lost family!
Cassandra

Hi Jenn, it's been a number of years (9!) since we last chatted about our search for our HERO relatives on this website. I just wanted to say hello again and tell you I never was successful in tracing any family HERO before my GGM Carolina Hero from Hallefors, Sweden. I did learn recently that the surname Hero is found in Norway (common) and in Denmark (rarer) as well as in France with a relationship to Huguenots. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and see if your search had been fruitful. I have a new email; please feel free to reply here or write to me. Best regards, Cassandra

Hi Pam, it's been a few years since we chatted online here at this website when we both began our HERo family searches. I haven't found much, unfortunately. I do know now that my great grandmother Carolina Hero Andersdotter (not quite sure why Hero is in the "middle") married Viktor Forsberg in Hallefors, Sweden, in the early 1850's. They had 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters. Have you had any better luck tracing our Hero heritage? One thing I did learn this week is that HERO is also a common surname in Norway. You had traced Danish roots, right? Anyway, just wanted to say hello and share information. I have a new email address.

Dear Jennifer, My husband's grandfather was Christian Hero. He was born in Bavaria. As far as we can figure, the name is of French extraction but was used in Bavaria which makes sense since the language varies from French to German. The family settled in Toledo. There are also several Italian "Hero's" in the US. Sincerely, Evi Hero

Miguel Hero born 1872 in Cuba was my grandfather. Census says his father was from Spain & Mother from Cuba. Miguel came to Key West in 1886. Census reports him living in West Tampa, working as cigarmaker. Married to Juana Jimenez (her parents were Cuban) Miguel & Juana had Miguel, Abigail, Matilda, Albert, Angelita, and Antonio, plus 3 babies who died. Miguel died in 1917 and Juana died in 1919 leaving all these children to be raised by other friends & families. Antonio was 2 yrs. old. My father was Albert Hero and he was 6 yrs. old. I have a brother, Tony, lives in Tampa. My Uncle Antonio is 89 and lives in San Antonio. My parents divorced when I was 3 so I never really knew the Hero family.

Some of the towns their families lived in are Skrea, Falkenberg, Agaard, Torup Halmstaad, Ljungby, Saleby, Vastergotland, Torsby. Have lines in Sweden going back to1664. Then the family comes from Denmark. I don't know if the borders were changed due to conflict or not. Anyway, there are still many with the name HERO still in Sweden.

Also, I have seen cases where the name was "Americanized" by changing the French name Heroux and also Spanish names that sounded like Hero in pronunciation were also changed.

Hi Sandra-
I don't know if this will help, hopefully it will. My last name is Hero and my father told me that the name is french and it got changed on Ellis Island. The former spelling was supposedly HEROUX. I don't know how acurate this is. I did go to Ellis Island a few years back and found nothing. Unfortunately that is all of the info I have at this time. I just started researching this recently. Please give me any info you have regarding the same matter. Who knows, we could be related!
Yours Truly,
Jenn Hero

I am searching for information regarding my great grandmother, Carolina Hero, who married Victor Forsberg of Karlstaad, Sweden, approximately 1890.

Any information regarding the nationality/ethnicity of "Hero" as a surname would be much appreciated.

My only lead is that her family came from France.

Many thanks.

First, I don't know my family. The Twelth census of the U.S. in 1900 in West Tampa, Fl. (Hillsborough County) list my grandfather, Miguel Hero, born Oct. 1872 in Cuba. His father was born in Spain and his mother born in Cuba. He was married to Juana Jimenez born Oct. 1877 in Florida, her father & mother was born in Cuba.Their first son, Miguel, was born July 02, 1898 in Miami, Fl., later they had Abigail born Aug. 14, 1907 in Tampa, Albert (my father) born Feb. 04, 1913 in Key West, Fl., Matilda (married Perez) and Angie (married Brockway) and another son Antonio "Tony" born Sept. 16, 1917. The children were raised by various friends and families so we don't know shat happened to my grandparents. I did not know my dad, but found my Uncle Tony in San Antonio, Texas where we visited last year. I would appreciate any info. I found two half brothers in Hudson, Fl. but they don't want to be a part of this. I do have a brother living in Tampa and his name is Tony. He wants info. just like me. Thanks anyone.
