Yes, finally, bells are ringing. I know who Cannon Herrell is. Please write me offline and I will send you what I have. There's quite a story to tell. I believe we're cousins too, as this is my line as well. This is so exciting.

Roberta Estes
robertajestes@att.net

Hi Carlos,

The lines I have are further back. If you can give me another generation or two back in time, I may be able to connect the dots. I'm sorry. I worked on the early families and did not bring them down into the later 1800s.

Roberta
robertajestes@att.net

I think he was pretty close to my older brothers and sisters when they were young. I don't know much about John Edward but I did hear he was a scoundrel and that he died in prison I think in Texas. He was very hard to trace because no one wanted to talk about him. You know, skeletons in the closet!! My sister might have more info than I do, I will contact her and see what she has on him.
My address is Linda Slate-Adolf, 17170 Upper Starr King Dr.,
Soulsbyville, Calif. 95372. Look forward to talking to you soon. How many cousins have you met while you have been doing this?? Lots I'll bet.
Linda

Hi Linda,
I have alot of info on the Adams ancestry. I would be happy to mail you a copy. Please give me your address. Joe Adams, son of Grover Adams, is my
father. He passed away 10 years ago. I will send you
a picture of him. He was a great father and ranched
for many years. I found John Edward Adams illusive.
I have some census records on him. Can you tell me
about his life? Don't worry, I don't expect him to be a
great person, anyway by what I have heard from others.
I really would like to know the real facts. My address is:
Carolyn Scism-324 Blue Windsor Lane, Col. Spgs.
Colorado 80906.
Thank you,
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,
Thank you for the information on the Adams. I have a few stories, but not many about Edward Newton's father. I don't think anyone has a lot of info on him. I heard he was a man not willing to settle down, he was away from the family most of the time. Grandma Lydia Louise or Louisa lived with my Grandpa when she was very old. I think she died when she was about 104. I know she was Indian. and she use to sit in the bed with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders singing Indian chants. My mother was a young girl at the time, but she remembered her well. I will send you more in a letter. If you have any please send them to me. I would love some pictures of you and your family. I loved the one of your father. I have been keeping in touch with Paul, Laney's son. He lives in Japan. Maybe someday we can all get together. A reunion for all the cousins!
Linda

Dear Linda,
Thank you for your message. I show that Louisa
Herrell was 74 when she died, but I have discovered
some very interesting history. Do you have any info
on the Ft. Ruddell massacre? If you don't have,
I will mail you this info about our ancestors.
Do you have a picture of Edward Newton Adams &
Little Granny? Please let me know any info you have
on them.
I haven't seen Paul Robinson since he was 11. I
heard he was in Japan and his actions were like
our grandfather, Grover Adams. It's always good to
hear from you. Keep in touch.
Carolyn

Claiborne Co., Tn. Herrell Line

Hazel Woodward Carter compiled a listing of the Harrell/Herrell family and descendants of Claiborne Co. Tn. and includes lines descended into other states. Montgomery Harrell b 1823 and his wife Matilda Brooks seem to be the first generation with any reliability. The relationship of people in the book is difficult to sort through. If this book is known and others have it, great. If not, I do have a copy.

Bobbi Estes

Appears in "The Wapanucak Press" 23 October 1902 Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

DEATH CALLS ROBERT P. HERRELL

At his home about 8 miles north of the city, last Friday night, Robert P. Herrell, one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of this section, passed over the river of death to answer the roll call among that mighty host encamped upon the other shore. He had suffered with erysipelas for sometime, and while serving on the jury at Atoka became ill with pneumonia which was the cause of his death.

It pains us to have to chronicle the death of this good man, who was one of our best friends. We knew him and admired him for his gentle ways and his regard for his word; for his word was his bond.

The remains were laid to rest in the Moore Cemetery near Byrne Saturday evening amid a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends. He was a member of Oconee Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the burial was conducted by that Lodge under a very impressive ceremony. Many friends in this city attended the burial to pay their last respects to their deceased friend.

Mr. Harrell leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his loss. The Press joins the entire population of the city in extending deepest sympathies to the bereaved family.
