No, your grandpa was not Maclovio's descendant. Maclovio Herrera was born in 1879, so he was 12 when your grandfather was born. They might have been distant cousins, because Maclovio's close family was in the Parral area.

There was a Mateo Herrera in Maclovio's family tree, but he was his uncle and lived in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua.

Hello-you seem to know a lot about Maclovio's descendants. I was wondering if you knew whether there was a Mateo Herrera in his family tree. He was my grandpa but I don't know much about his family. He was born Sept.9th 1891 in Valparaizo, Zacatecas. His father was Jose Herrera and mother was Gregoria Arellano. By the way- that picture of Maclovio and the soldiers- the arrow pointing to Maclovio looks a lot like my grandpa. He also fought with Villa and I have a document verifying that. I await your response- thank you!

all i know about Maclovio is that my mother's uncle posed for a picture with him, I believe my uncle was in the northern division since hewas from the state of Coahuila home of Madero and Carranza as well. I'm not sure if he served under him. I never had a conversation with ny great uncle.I believe my cousin has the photo in Fresno california. good luck in your search

Looking for margarita Herrera born abt 1914

hello I'm looking for the biological family of my grandfather, I found more information on his birth mother. her name was margarita Herrera. she was born about 1914 in new Mexico. she had one other living child before my grandfather, Leroy Joseph Trujillo. Leroy was born on October 1936. I heard from family that she tried to contact my grandfather, but he was unwilling to talk to her. we think margarita had 8 kids in total, and lived out her life in New Mexico. also my grandfather is very fair complected with blondish hair, hazel eyes. His adoptive parents names are Lupe and Epifanio Harris Trujillo. Epifanio is listed as the father and Margarita as the mother. I think my grandpa was a result of an affair, or was born out of wed lock to Margarita, and Epifanio raised him with his family. If anyone has any info please reply!

Apellido Canino, de Tenerife, Islas Canarias

Hola,

Saludos y espero tu respuesta.

Aparicio Francisco Herrera/Las Cruces, New Mexico

I'm searching for any information regarding my grandfather. He married around 1929-1930 to Luz Gutierrez Chavarria and had one son with her, my father Geronimo Aparicio Herrera. We called my father Jerry. Anyway, my grandfather didn't know his parents. He claimed that they had been killed by indians and then raised by them. But I now learn that he may have been indian himself. I know that he worked in the coal and copper mines prior to marrying my grandmother. He was previously married to another women and had children. I don't remember her name I was very young when she came to his funeral with her children. At the time of his funeral, we lived in El Monte, California. They live somewhere in Los Angeles, but they were all Herreras. I have found one other Aparicio married to a Soledad Rosas from El Paso, Texas, but can't be sure if this is his first wife. If anyone out there has any information, please advise.

I don't know too much about my grandfather just that he always told my mom he was from Durango Durango Mexico. His parents were Juan Herrera and Mercedes Duron they had between 7 and 9 kids all boys. Out of all the brothers she only remembers him mentioning one brother named Jose Maria Herrera. I also found out that two came to the USA one lived in California and the was not known. The parents I think split and his mother remarried to a man that he couldn't accept so thats what brought him to America.

Raul, thanks for your reply, From what I understand, Maria Herrera was from San miguelito or el consuelo. Manuel Salas(there were two Jr & Sr -dob unk) Jr had a daughter out of wedlock with Maria's sister Paula. I only found Marriage info on Manuel & Maria, they married in 1876, from there I don't know how to get original, hopefully it gives parents names. My grandmother Julia lived n San Blas ranch. She mentions in a taped conversation the names, Gabino Barrera, the revolucion, Juan & Felix Lopez. She mentions los Villarreales. I found her dad Eligio's parents(my great great grdndparents marriage info, they married around same time as Maria & Manuel, they're names were Ma Leonarda Rodrigues and Miguel Hernandez My info states that Juan A Almazan 's assistant was Francisco Salas, he was in the military. Another story is that Eligio's son-my uncle Jose Hernandez was mean and allowed Carranza's men to take over ranch. Eligio gave my aunt a bunch of gold to take my grandmother Eufracia to U.S. for their proctection. My granma Julia eloped with Anastacio and stayed behind, Anastacio was involved in military also, Anastacio's younger bro-Emilio Salas fought in revolution. My uncle Felix-Julia's son coild be Mariano Salas's twin, I believe he served as a president in Mexico. My uncle Felix says Manuel's family came originally from Durango. Julia had a ranch, but sold it when Anastacio was killed in cold blood. Julia use to loan money out to people in Matehuala to various people of social status, this is how she made her living. There is still much land from the ranch that my aunt Carlotta rents out to people that farm it. There is so much mystery on both sides of the family Manuel's and Eligio's. I wish I could uncover it. I know Julia is a Salinas Sanchez her grandma was Mariana Salinas Sanchez, they say her husband was named Dionicio. These are bits & pieces that I am trying to unravel. Both Salas & Hernandez had each about 10-11 children.Advise me please on how to get marriage documents for ggparents that I do have info on. thank U, hope I didn't bore you

Hi, Eleanor, I'm glad if I can be of some help, even though we're not related.

Have you tried www.familysearch.org, the site of the Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints church? It is by far the best and most serious source of information. The sources are wonderful, and their search tools, extremely powerful. For example, I just looked for the marriage of Manuel Salas and Maria Herrera and came out with the following:

MANUEL SALAS
Male
Spouse: MARIA HERRERA
Marriage: 24 NOV 1879 La Inmaculada Concepcion, Matehuala, San Luis Potosi, Mexico

Source Information:
Batch No.: M605716
Dates: 1868 - 1885
Source Call No.: 0707354

Do you think they could be your ancestors? If they are, you could go to any branch of the church and order the film number 0707354, where you would most likely find information about their parents, ages, etc. However, they might not be, since you give 1876 for their wedding date.

I also found some baptism dates:

MANUEL JUAN DE JESUS SALAS Pedigree
Male

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event(s):
Birth:
Christening: 26 JUN 1862 El Dulce Nombre De Jesus, Ciudad Fernandez, San Luis Potosi, Mexico
Parents:
Mother: MA. DE JESUS SALAS
Source Information:
Batch No.: C602088 Dates: 1861 - 1871
Source Call No.: 0709405

Manuel Salas
Male
Birth: 04 JUL 1861
Christening: 16 AUG 1861 Santa Maria Del Oro, Durango, Mexico
Parents:
Father: Antonio Salas
Mother: Basilia Pantoja

Good luck in your search.

We are obviously talking about two different Maclovio Herreras. Mine was the Mexican revolutionary general. And no, no relationship at all with Benito Juarez. By the way, how odd that we did have our Herrera family meeting -a large number of relatives there-, only it took place in Mexico. It's great that your family is holding together.

Hi, it's very interesting to learn that you have met around the common idea of being descendants of my grand uncle Maclovio Herrera, but I cannot but wonder how this came about. Perhaps we're talking about two different people.

Mexican revolutionary general Maclovio Herrera Cano was born on November 15, 1879, in San Juanico, Chihuahua (a ranch in the outskirts of Hidalgo del Parral). He married María Galindo Meza on April 22, 1904 and bore five children: Maclovio Jr., Eva, David, Adan, and Abel. Out of the five, only Maclovio and Eva married, but she had no descendance. Maclovio married Adela Rodriguez and bore five children: Carmen (born April 9, 1940), Maclovio III (born November 15, 1942), David (born December 12, 1946, Adán (born September 21, 1948), and Consuelo (born July 28 1950). All five of these cousins of mine are still alive and have children; they all live in Mexico. None of them had a daughter named Maria, and of if they had, she wouldn't be old enough to be a grandmother.

General Maclovio Herrera passed away on April 17, 1915 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. It is quite likely that during revolutionary times he may have had children outside of marriage, but we ignore their names, the names of their mothers or their place/date of birth. However, it is very unlikely that he could have been the great grandfather of anybody's grandmother, since ninety five years is too short a span of time for five generations to grow.

Maclovio died in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, across the border from Laredo, Texas. Even though he spent less than a month in Nuevo Laredo, it is possible that he might have had a relationship with some local woman, and that your grandmother was born, but in that case he wouldn't have been her great grandfather, but her father, and he would be YOUR ggfather.

OK, now you know that the film number is what you need to order. The BATCH number, on the other hand, is the reference to where the information was captured in the data base. (By the way, for Mexico, I suggest skipping the general tools and going directly to "advanced search" and then "International Genealogical Index".) The batch number is a very useful tool for searching in the data base. Once you've found the baptizing of a Salas in a particular town and date, go to the search tool and enter the Salas family name, the region and state, and the batch number; the search tool will show you all the Salas children who were baptized in that particular church during the period mentioned next to the batch number. That will help you find many cues. Good luck.

Neither Perez nor Carrillo appear in Maclovio Herrera's genealogy. His eldest sister, Petra Herrera Cano, married Ramon Dominguez, and that is the only case in which the Dominguez name appears in the family; they bore no children. This means that the information you provide cannot help us find a relationship.

While I am not related to Maclovio, my grandfather, James P. Craig was a very close friend of his.

He went to Parral in the mid 1890's to run timber and gold operations in the mountains above the city (perilious work in those days),and left in about 1912-1913.

I have pictures of them together, taken at the Stevenson Studio in Parral in probably 1910 or 1911, with Bonafacio Rodriguez, Escalante, Refugio Lara, Valles, Thomas Urbina (who tried to kill my grandfather and whom he believed later killed Maclovio), A. Duarte, and a man from El Paso named Leslie Webb, who was my grandfather's "enforcer" (I have a letter from Webb, promising to go after the people who killed Maclovio and make them pay).

He married a Mexicana from a prominent family (I don't remember their name at the moment). She died of TB and he was ostracised by her family and their two daughters were taken from him. He had many influential friends in that region, and was able to get his daughters and bring them to California, where my mother was born to him and his second wife.

From everything I've heard, while they fought the same enemies, these guys were not really all that close to Villa. It was generally thought that Villa was killed in Parral in retaliation for if not ordering, then at least condoning Maclovio's killing (by Urbina?). The Herreras and their faction were very popular in the Parral area, and it was believed that Villa had Maclovio killed to eliminate him as a political rival. My grandfather hated Villa until the day he died. He was certain Villa killed a number of the closest friends he ever had, and knew he was lucky to have escaped himself.

My parents and I went to the Villa family hacienda in Chihuaha in 1973, and Sra. Villa still remembered my grandfather. She referred to him has "Don Largo" (he was 6'3") and remembered his red handlebar moustache. She gave us a grand tour of the estate/museum (she let me sit in the car Villa was machine gunned in. At 17, I thought that was pretty cool) and had lunch with us.

The pictures are proud family heirlooms and the lore has passed for almost 100 years now. I have his writings, but have yet to scan them and do anything w/them. I gave copies of several of the pictures to a "Quarocentenario/Sister City" delegation from Parral that came to Espanola, NM about 10 years ago. They were going to post them in their city museum.

Anyway, I don't know if all of this helps with your Maclovio search, but I can try to scan the pictures and send them if you'd like. At least you'll have an idea if his associates.

I believe Maclovio Herrera was related to my great grandfather. Tomas Perez Dominquez who married Guadalupe Aragon Villa. My family is from Parral, Chihuahua. My grandmother's uncle was Severio Carrillo.
