I am a great-great granddaughter of Berry & Caroline Evans Herrin. Their son Raymond Berry Herrin was my great grandfather. I would love to connect with any descendents of Berry b. 1822 in GA and d. 1880 in Ga. as well. Berry & Caroline had six sons-no daughters. My grandmother Edna May Herrin Scott was Raymond & Lena Huggins Herrin's daughter. I can be reached @ : 405-341-0898 and live in Edmond, OK

Again, I would love so much to connect with descendents of this wonderful family.

Denise Tribbey

I recently took a trip to Wilkes, Caldwell, Davie, and Rowan Co., NC.

Thank you for assistance. I have found some of this information. However, I have been confused on how the puzzle pieces fit together. I did not know that Richard could have possibly been married twice nor did I know about the marriage certificate to M. A. Hubbard. The 1880 census has a Henry E. Herrin, which only led to more questions, since I was fairly certain there was not a brother to William Edgar.
I will continue my search and contact the counties involved. Thank you!

Be advised that Elijah Herrin and Charles Grandison Herrin were in Sumner and White Co.s Tennessee, respectively in the 1818 time frame. I have documentation. This is one reason that I believe that Richard Herrin of White Co. was his brother. Richard was in 1790 Rowan Co. and that's where Elijah came from.

Re: Richard S. Herrin

Death certificates of William Edgar Herrin and his wife are on the Familysearch.org Index Records site. The 1900 census shows Richard S Herrin born Sep 1851 living with son Edgar and d/law Laura G in Van Zandt County, TX. Findagrave.com has a photo of the tombstone of Richard Stockton Herrin born 3 Sep 1851, died 26 Sep 1914 in Heath Cemetery, Rockwall, TX.

Van Zandt's Genweb site has a marriage date for R S Herrin and M A Hubbard as 11/17/1875; the 1880 census lists him in that county with wife Marry and a son the age of William Edgar. I suspect William's mother died soon after he was born. His death certificate lists his mother as 'Sallie', and an S. F. Herrin(1853-1874)is buried in Old Bethel Cemetery, Van Zandt County.

Ancestry World Tree Project at Ancestry.com has a William Moses as the father of Richard S Herrin and a W. M. Herrin is also buried in Old Bethel Cemetery. Although these are only clues, writing to Rockwall and Van Zandt counties may provide some solid sources.

J H "Whitson" Morris b 1833 Arkansas?

Just update praying that someone out there might have a clue. I am looking for information on G Grandfather J H "Whitson" Morris info says he was born 1833 in Arkansas. I have traced him from 1860 until his death in 1902 in Oklahoma. Inforamtion I have is 1860 - 1870 - 1880 - Census - Headstone pictures of his grave and G Grandmother as well. I have a page of the Registery of his funeral record with date and location of burial. (no death records before 1908 and hard to find any before 1940) I have the application for license of his daughters marriage license date 1895. I feel they had to be here in Oklahoma somewhere between 1880 and 1895. I have transcription of headstone of his grandson from his daughter Emma. I also have death record of his oldest daughter that list the name of Father J H and Mother Sarah Day as the parents. I have a crude picture of Aunt Emma and Sarah F Day Morris with G Aunt Emma's family I can date the picture between 1891 and 1898 due to the fact that aunt Emma's Oldest son was in the picture and he died 1998.
I have included the name WHITSON because he used it one time on the 1870 census that is the only time it appeared as as anything but J H W. I feel the name could be nickname. I have a feeling that he could have been born in Tennessee and just raised in Arkansas since that is where the parents are said to have been born. I know there are several files out there that give him other names, just search them out the info doesn't support their claim.
I have been looking for him a long time and no other name comes up in census but the ones I have stated. I hope someone else out there that is looking gets in touch with me. I will tell you the date on his headstone is 1833 The 1870 census is the only one that the date matches the above date. This man had a problem with dates I think he was either older on one and younger on the other.
Thank YOu

I descend from her daughter Thursey McCoy. I don't have any information about Mecie's burial place. I did manage to find her in the Census records from 1845 - 1870. Did you find her in the 1880 Census? I thought maybe she had died before that.

Go to http://www.herrenbunch.com/ to see much of my latest research. That is a web site I like because Megan Herren keeps it so up-to-date and I don't have the time. She is descended from Ambrose Herren through Daniel Herren and Susannah Hunter, likely brother to Shadrack Herrin. I am at penengr@comcast.net.

It was good to hear from you Larry. I am glad you verified that Rebecca Stogsdill was Shadrack "Shade's" wife. I was a little concerned about this. I would very much like to learn more about your research.
I do not know how I lost your address. If you do not have it I am not sure how to get it to you. This message board is a little public. However if you will go to my Public Tree and send me a message I believe that is more private and I can send you my address.......Joanne
Larry.....I forgot to say in the last messages that you do have it correct that James Logan Thompson Herrin is the son of Elijah & Sarah but I have a cousin that researched this James L. a long time ago and she connected the wrong James L. to Elijah's family. Now new evidence shows us who this James L. really is and he was born in 1849 & not 1850 as my cousin had it. She researched without help of all that I have had to work with and she has been sent the new information I and my other Herrin Cousin found and she has it corrected in her file now.
Here is the documentation for James Logan's marriage to Elizabeth Salesman. Found in the Illinois Archives Marriage Records:
HERREN, JAMES SALESMAN, ELIZA 10/05/1869 002/ 00000691 RICHLAND

Elijah was living in Indiana in the 1850 census moved to Indiana before the 1860 census. As we know Elijah lived in Bonpas Twp, Richland Co. IL. up until the 1860 census or longer and moved to Christy Twp, Lawrence Co. IL. before the 1870 census. Seeing that James L. is married in 1869 in Richland makes us wonder if Elijah made his move to Lawrence Co. IL. in 1869. But also Elizabeth very possibly had relatives living in Richland Co. IL. So we can not take it for fact that Elijah lived in Richland Co. up until 1869 either. Also seeing that James L. was married in Richland Co. makes us wonder if he & Elizabeth made their home in Richland Co or Lawrence Co.
James L. died before his father Elijah who died in 1878. Elijah was living in Christ Twp, Lawrence Co. at the time and buried James L. at Brian Cemetery. This likely was the cemetery close to the Elijah Herrin farm. James L. is buried there then later, Elijah, Sarah other daughters Hannah, Mary A. Emma Jane are buried there.
On the Lawrence Co. IL GenWeb I have entered many pictures I took at the Brian Cemetery. You can view those if you like. Over half of the people buried there are my ancestors I believe.
Have a much more detailed history for James Logan if you are interested. Regards.......Joanne
My father as you can see my father was Dudley Jesse Herrin who was born in Mississippi. My father had two sisters: Lucille and Ruby. Does this sound familiar? Would be interesting to find out S.J. he had another family. You see I have pictures posted of my fathers family but Shep is not in any of them. I do have pictures of Ora Lacy who was married to Shep but some how he was never in front of the camera. Have also found a check....S.J. Herrin Plantation. I agree it is very interesting. Do you have any pictures of Shep??
